If you hit him before he gets low, on the under-hump of his vehicle you can do it with NO damage. Took me forever to find that out though.

At the long screw part,this is how you don't activate the astrons: As soon as you reach the top,slow down,jump,and run again. And..BOOM!No damage,no astron spikes in your face,and you can activate Super Sonic.

The way I kill dr. Eggman in his cloning mobile, I go left and right and then when he start throwing his balls at me; I don't move around, I stand still till it's time to hit him.

I only hated the Slicers in this level, otherwise the enemies didn't bother me much. I love the Metropolis music to death, however.

Yes, it is in fact possible to defeat this boss without getting hit (or cheating). Observe his movements without risking a lucky shot. You'll see the window of opportunity when it arrives. The only tricky part is timing the jumps correctly when jumping over Robotnik when he hovers left and right over the floor.

i was facing that boss with my last life and no rings, so what i did was plug in the second controller and use tails to do everything. whenever robotnik came close to sonic, i just paused it, jumped to the other side of the screen, and went back to kicking his ass with tails

I'm not great at this game either, but what you can do with this boss is just wait for him to start floating back and forth and run a bit to get enough speed to jump clear over him as he moves from side to side, eventually he'll go to the center of the screen and start scattering his balls all over the place, but if you go to the very edge of the screen they can't hit you. He then places the balls laterally with respect to himself, so you aren't in danger from jumping up and attacking him.

I can actually beat the boss without getting hit. It's just a matter of knowing exactly when to hit him.

The trick to beating him is he does two rounds, one left one right, then he levitates up and the balls circle horizontally around him so you can just run under him and hit him. You just have to jump over him while he does his rounds. It's actually pretty easy once you get the hang of it. But yeah, I was pretty baffled at first too.

Yea, Metropolis Zone kicked my ass when I was a kid, but it was also my favorite zone because it was so hard. Also, I love the music. Good stuff.

When you hit Eggman once, he goes to the top of the screen, not moving, and the balls orbit around him horizontally, leaving his underside completely unprotected 100% of the time. If you can reach, hit him once. DO NOT HIT THE BUBBLE THAT COMES OFF. And continue to hit him until he runs out of bubbles. I used that trick on the Mecha Sonic version in Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

The best ways to beat him are: A) Stand on his left or right side under him, rather than directly under him. Time your jump so that you hit him when the balls are up on that side. This may take a few tests of the timing to learn, but it's not too hard once you've learned the timing. B) If you don't kill the balloons, he stays frozen at the top of the screen. >:D

with the boss, it's true the quickest way to beat him is using tails to hit him, but there is another way. You can also simply jump over him a couple times and wait it out in the corner, then he goes to the center, does a couple of big spins with his balls, that don't hit either corner, then he exposes his bottom half for a couple seconds allowing you to get a hit in.

for some reason I thought Knuckles couldn't reach the boss with his jump. I always thought he only needed 20 rings for the special stage and keeps them because of this boss but I guess that was just a strange design choice

I cant believe cybershell doesnt know how to no hit the boss without rings. You just wait till he flies back and forth, then he goes up to the center and his balls do a crazy whirl and then orbit him horizontally for a second which is your opening

This boss is quite easy. Just jump over him as he comes at you, then stand in the corner and he'll send is balls out. When he brings them back in, he leaves himself open. It takes a while, but it is quite easy.

For that annoying part on 2:40, if you slow down near the top as you're running up the first screw, you'll lose your momentum so when you jump off it won't activate the starfish bastards. Basically just let go of right and Sonic will keep running but he'll slow down, meaning when you jump the momentum won't be as big.

I've beat him without getting hit as Sonic alone. You just simply jump over him and after he moves around a little bit he will go into the middle and when his balls start circling around and get centered you have a chance.

boss is easy you just have to have good timing and aim for him when the spheres are on the side you jump to so that when you do jump they are on the otherside

i just did this with only sonic, it''s kinda the same as what he did, you get hit and use your invulnerability to hit him, and it's better cause you can hit him 2 and sometimes 3 times and it kills him really fast

There's a Sonic 3-ized hack of Sonic 2 where you can get a lightning shield in this zone and those stars can't touch you

@demomanchaos. Well, yes, but you still have to leap over him twice before he does this, and time it so you don't get hit by his balls. Try that using Knuckles, and You'll see what I mean.

There's a part on this level (I dunno if it was on the vid) where you bounce up those yellow springs and there's a green mantis thingy throwing the slicers at you when you get to the top. When he knocks you down and you lose your rings you go back up and he has the slicers again and he knocks you down again... Its fucking annoying and takes about 6 tries to get past it.
