This zone is easily the best in any sonic game, and no list of best levels in gaming is complete without this zone. Speed is a very addictive action, drug, and gaming experience and this zone captures it better than anything else ever has during it's time. It made the next fastest game of its day feel like the system froze.

Grabber basically grabs you, then restrains you while he goes kamikaze to damage you, but if playing as Sonic and Tails, the other player can render the suicide useless by bopping Grabber and destroying him, thus freeing the other character. Talk about a pathetic badnik...

you can skip the water tower of doom (my nickname for it) if you do a simple trick. from the special spring loaded zipper after the extra life, if you jump at the right spot, you can launch yourself up and skip it altogether

There's actutally a shortcut on the top route 3:30, if you have enough momentum to reach it. Go past the rotating blocks, and then jump into the wall on the left, a secret passage. Not only do you get lots of rings, an extra life, and a starpost, you get to avoid the water rising bit, AND re-emerge just before the boss fight with a free invincibility.

For anyone that doesn't know, the purple stuff is called "Mega Mack". Robotnik uses it to poison Sonic, but it works the same as water. You don't breathe, you drown.
