Visit TED.com to get our entire library of TED Talks, transcripts, translations, personalized talk recommendations and more.
We have archives of films, newspapers, even seeds -- what if we could make one for the entire surface of the earth? Drawing on his experience mapping an ancient city in the Honduran jungle, archaeologist Chris Fisher makes the case for scanning the whole planet with LiDAR -- a technology that uses lasers shot from an airplane to map the ground -- in order to preserve our cultural and ecological heritage.
The TED Talks channel features the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). Look for talks on Technology, Entertainment and Design -- plus science, business, global issues, the arts and more. You're welcome to link to or embed these videos, forward them to others and share these ideas with people you know. Less sensationalism... six thousand years ago the sea level was approximately six meter above the current level. Twelve thousand years ago it was approximately 120 m below current level. It is always changing.

Hi. The hashtag SaveTedRussia is written by people from the Soviet Union. Very few people speak English fluently. There is a channel on Russian-language KZbin that translates original Ted videos. Monetization on this channel is disabled, translators live on donations from the patron. All videos in Russian contain links to the original TED videos. The other day, the translators received an email that Ted would block the KZbin channel. A huge number of people who do not speak English and watch Ted in translation will be deprived of excellent educational content. Therefore, they urge leaders not to restrict access to knowledge because of language discrimination. They offer to take popular translators to the TED team and continue to please Russian-speaking viewers with new videos. Thank you for your attention. #savetedrussia
@user-td4gh6kj2z
@user-td4gh6kj2z 4 жыл бұрын
Your useage of the term discrimination belittles the term, you shouldnt do that for one. Secondly, Maybe they should apply to work for the channel or its parent companies as a translator? Regardless that is most likely a decision that was made at a corporate lawyer standpoint, its unlikely that the people at the top even know about it. Happens to channels all the time. Lastly, the Soviet Union is dead.
@dddkkk2568
@dddkkk2568 4 жыл бұрын
@@user-td4gh6kj2z I was referring to the countries of the former Soviet Union. People living in this area have a different type of mentality than Westerners or Easterners. Russian Russian-speaking people who subscribe to the channel of Russian translators, but who want to watch Ted and perceive it as discrimination. Subscribers understand the situation with the lawyer, so they try to pay attention to the situation of Ted managers. And just take translators to the team. All these thoughts I put in the previous comment. But because of ignorance of the language. Perhaps you don't understand me, just as we can't understand Ted in English because of the use of machine translation.

Yes, like mentioned in a comment by someone else, ask your translators to contact Ted offering to translate in Russian. That way you avoid plagiarism. The most important is to offer access to info to all. Better do it by the rules or create your own videos if you want to keep your russian channel without copying the videos from Ted. Good luck!
@dddkkk2568
@dddkkk2568 4 жыл бұрын
@@yogeshroy9913 Under each video were links to Ted's original videos. The channel name can be translated as Ted in Russian. Monetization was disabled. According to the translators, Ted doesn't make contact. By the way, plagiarism is the representation of someone else as your own. The translators didn't assign it , they just translated it, that is, they help in spreading information.

This leads me to a point whose relevance to this is in immediate question, but at microscale, LiDAR is even being implemented in modern cars to provide advanced driver assistance features with Tesla already lightyears ahead of the game. A 200 THz (1.5-micrometer) wave traveling through the ethers at the speed of light is going to convey far more information to a car and its driver about the environment in which it is driving than a 50 kHz wave traveling through the ethers at the speed of sound using ultrasonic scanning.

Sounds like a good idea, but how can we trust the increasing scrutiny we are under, whether populated or wild and uninhabited, this world has already been observed pretty well and no one can say that this info has not been used for nefarious purposes! As with many others, I have no doubt that this exploitation will continue and however naive and trusting good people are, their best research has continually been used by those who hi- jack the good work of sincere scientific enquirers.To trust governments( who are consistently used and manipulated by invisible power players) with data and expect them to be responsible with that info is patently STUPID! Wake up and smell the potential for corruption by preventing the possibility for information being used by these destructive influences. Obviously you care about your work and the planet, but don't allow yourself to be " pollyana'd" into providing dangerous institutions with fodder for their schemes.

I have watched the oil industry for over 15 years. The discovery of oil peaked in 1964. In 2019 Rystad Energy reported that the global discovery of oil is 9 billion barrels. Mankind consumes 3 billion barrels a month. 36 billion PA. 9 billion barrels is sufficient for 3 months. It's 27 billion barrels short of what is required to maintain our current lifestyle. Soon demand will exceed supply as we cannot pump undiscovered oil. Oil and food are linked 3 ways. 1. Agricultural chemicals made from oil and gas. They improve food production X 3. An area that previously produced 1 ton of food now produce 3 tons of food. Google:- green revolution. 2. Farm machinery is powered by diesel from oil. 3. Transport from farm to a shop near us is also powered by diesel. When I was born in 1948 there were 2 billion people living on planet Earth. Now there's 7 billion. A reversal of the Green revolution will result in farm productivity collapsing. Global famine will follow. Please grow your own food. Regards Gray

@@grahammewburn didn't mean to send just yet. Essentially the oil companies don't want to spend the money to get some of the harder to reach stuff, so they're running the clock in the hopes that tech will advance to make it cheaper to get to. It's like the Doldrums, why spend a hundred million now when we can spend twenty five in ten years and still profit all along the way?

Those who know HOW will always work for those who know "WHY". Those who pay for the collection control HOW it is used for their profit. Those who knew HOW will be helpless when unable to access the result for the original intent.

Just need some solar powered drone swarms that scan everything and then have AI stitch everything together and fill out the missing details.
