At some point you may want to swap out the dams for 2 high flood gates so that you can back up the water onto the higher section in front of the District. Compared with levee + dam on top, it would also allow you to release/flush the bad water quicker in a bad tide.

For a early game offbrand version of the fluid dump, you can just drop 2 levees into the river at a corner tile. The water caught in it will give you a bit of irrigation untill you can get a fluid dump going.

i think maybe putting in floodgates where the river spits into 2 (small island) then leves that split the main channel, keep the fresh water close to the village, and the other side can be for bad water. That way you will have a small resivoir for fresh water and the ability to keep bad water from killing crops. also grab the mod that opens and closes floodgates, will make your water supply safe.
@JCTheBeard
@JCTheBeard Жыл бұрын
That's a good idea. I actually do have the floodgate automation mod, not sure how far into the video you are but I do show the dialog box for it at some point. Should make it MUCH easier to manage with separate drought and badtide modes 😎

Idea: make a channel inside "your" bank of the river that is 1 tile wide using levees. Floodgate at the upstream side and dam at the bottom. Open during temperate, closed during droughts and badtides. That 1 tile of water keeps everything irrigated and is a buffer against the sewage...i mean badwater

@PauxloE
@PauxloE Жыл бұрын
Some bad luck at the start, but it looks like we survived the first bad tide. → You'd want a storage for your berries too (or some additional gatherer flags, if you like to play the pausing game) - your first berry gatherer never could collect more than 20 berries at a time. (Though now most of the berry bushes are dead, so it likely doesn't matter much.) → I'd have expected the third and forth lodge to be on top of the first and second, accessible from the top layer. Saves some of the precious ground space which is usable for farming. → A faster way to get some planks in the emergency would be to destroy the stairs to the dam and let your builders collect the rubble, though then you'd also need a plank pile. But that wouldn't be enough for the water dump, only for the stairs. → Medium-term, you might want to add some floodgates near that island a bit upstream, and then a levee to push the bad tide water to the other half of the river.

You should raise those dams for more water storage.

So in this game you have to sometimes choose between getting quick wood that doesn't last long or go far or wait a long time to get more wood that's longer lasting and more sustainable than the quick wood. As a woman I spend most of my time wanting oaks but settling for birches instead, sometimes pines.

I probably wont be making too many big suggestions to start with this run, since I'm in the middle of running my own playthrough and I'm curious about what you do that's different. That said, the whole tree farm situation you've made is completely different, so here's a suggestion for it. Put levees across the right hand side of the river split at the upper level next to the tree farm. That will entierly block the river from getting into that area.. but that doesn't matter since you have a the fluid dump there now. It will keep the bad tide off of your trees though. The opening here was interesting. For anyone curious, you can just barely rush a dam across the river straight out from the district center doorway before the water disappears. It's technically over 1 day into the drought before I managed to finish it, but because it takes nearly 2 full days for the water to cycle through you can manage to capture enough water for the first drought.

Start blasting a big hole around the pumps for a resrvoir and wall it off from the badtide? Looks like fluid dumps are going to be the key for a while. It'd be nice if they worked like real-life and you could not only irrigate the immediate area, but also store it in tanks, like I do on my property. That cliff will come in handy for gravity batteries and such. Levees upstream of town can divert badwater, with sluices to allow good water into town.
@JCTheBeard

We'll see what we can do about a reservoir. Might be a bit before we can get explosives, though. And yes, the cliffs will be a big help with the gravity batteries We can do some nice vertical building on this map!
