Lately there's been a running theme on my Tumblr of people going "Lily! X person responded! Thoughts?!" and I feel this misses the point of the video entirely. Obviously my stalkers were going to respond going "Nuh uh! Lily's the abuser!" They've been calling me everything but a cunt since the original friendships broke down and taking every opportunity for attention and clout they can. When I talk about reactive abuse, it should go without saying they were going to practice more reactive abuse if their ego was bruised. Part of the reason I chose to rename them was because one stalker in particular was publicly bragging about all the attention that this video would bring them, and renaming them and not offering links means most people won't be bothered enough to go looking for them because the individuals themselves are not the point of the video. Furthermore, the people are irrelevant. This video isn't about X KZbinr or X Ex (ha) specifically, but rather the attitude of a stalker. The kind of people who spend years at a time fishing for clout regarding their obsession with X KZbinr. The video is about a universal issue of parasocial hatred, stripping away all the convenient exuses to get to the real issue underneath. Of course people who have this problem are going to redirect to the specific bullshit they like to make up to justify that continued hatred. Focusing on that is what they want me to do, because individual rumours have been so ineffective at destroying my life they desperately need to coerce me into signal boosting them myself.

Have only just started the video, but wanna throw out therefor everyone: If someone says they have a medical degree, and therefore can psychoanalyze you, they either don't have a medical degree, or they shouldn't. It is grossly unethical to try and armchair diagnose people you know in person, and just plain ridiculous to think you can diagnose someone you know from the internet.

it also sounds like something that might be illegal? but there's a lot of things that sound illegal that aren't, and I'm not a legal expert. I do know I've seen people get in trouble with employers for that kind of thing though, so at the very least there can be tangible repercussions offline.

Reactive abuse is super common and often overlooked. "they both were terrible to eachother" is total bull. If you are emotionally or physically put in a situation that you feel in danger of course you are going to lash out. When backed into a corner a scared animal bites. It's not the animals fault they felt threatened. It's not the victims fault they were put in fight for flight mode.

I can't possibly be a long time fan who finds genuine insight in her critique and using said insight to reflect upon my tastes. Out of curiosity I once watched some of the hit pieces, and followed a few link threads of all the stuff that comes up from these people when I search "Lily Orchard" and the videos were so dumb I couldn't even get to the end of them. I was just thinking "Really, this is what they're getting so worked up about?" the whole time. For many people, ‘bad’ writing is just writing they don’t like. So when people say that Lily is a bad writer, and they also say she’s a bad person and/or [insert slur here], it’s impossible to take them seriously because they’re just ranting about ‘mean lady told me my favorite show wasn’t the best thing in the world!! 🥺🥺’ in the most cartoonishly biased way possible, and absolutely no good criticisms or points whatsoever.

I've disagreed with some of Lily's opinions, but they were never anything worth making an issue over. I started watching her because of her funny takes on MLP, and I found her Glass of Water videos to be very enlightening on a lot of subjects I didn't fully understand. And while some people will say she gives bad writing advice, writing fiction is a subjective field of media because different demographics have different preferences. People ate up the Twilight books despite the franchise being almost universally panned and mocked by the vast majority of people who learned of the series. That being said, bad writing habits remain bad writing habits, and Lily is 100% right on how franchises such as WoW, Star Wars, Steven Universe and MLP totally dropped the ball on multiple fronts. Just because some people like the bad storytelling doesn't make said storytelling good or even healthy. Some people just can't process that. They feel like they are being personally attacked and retaliate with toxic vitriol, which just shows how shallow and pathetic they really are. I really liked the Legend of Korra, and while I don’t hate the series, Lily has proven to me that it is not as good as I initially thought it was. By the way, love the new puppet.

My lead theory is they are doing this as diversion / cope method to keep denying the intense feelings of guilt and inadequacy that nag at them constantly otherwise. If they stop, then they have to face the emptiness of their soul and life. And hating you is easier than fixing the lifetime of everything wrong they did. (edit) Aaaand I should have finished watching the video...

Lily puts it best - usually, these people who have nothing better to do are very unhappy people, and they think having an axe to grind will give them a sense of purpose. harassing people online does give you a sick sense of vindication, ask anyone who's engaged in drama on twitter. now imagine if that's the only source of happiness you ever had in life and you could tell yourself you were a hero for it. that's how the internet stalker do.

Hai Lily i really want to thank you for making this video. This year during first year of college i made a friend. For my whole first semester, He would scold me using my disability supports even after telling him that im nurodivergent. He would constantly try push me to tell him sensitive information that i was not comfortable talking about. Your video helped me realise the warning signs as he would brag about the amount of stuff he knew about criss chan other "Lolcals" personal lives. Which made me super distrustful of him. After I told him that I was taking a break from him to clear my head. He would reply with a meltdown, I would block him from contacting me. I have cut communication with him and changed classes so he won't be able to harass me. I am super grateful for you making this video, thanks for helping me dodge a bullet. having been making really lovely friends and been enjoying college. I wish you love, life and happiness ❤. Lily writes these videos in way that just sticks in my mind (which is strange for me cause I have the memory of goldfish) and some of it has actually helped me spot some of the bullshit abusive shit people do in my life. I came from the Steven Universe Video, and what draw me to it is that not only did the video itself have arguments that made a lot of sense that I never heard anywhere for some reason unbeknownst to the world, but also I felt convicted in a way, because I recognized some of the shitty patterns that she mentioned with some of the characters to actually show up in my interactions with people from me. Ever since I’ve been working on removing those bullshit tendencies from my life. This channel literally gave me a kick in the pants to change some shit in my life. I just want to express my gratitude to Lily for not being afraid of shitty people like the ones mentioned in this video and posting this content. Really helped me and I’m sure a lot of other people to realize some of their faults make a change for the better.

I remember I once checked out one of the gossip blogs just to see what they were saying and immediately saw one of my own comments being called a sock puppet. It wasn't even anonymous. If I ever needed evidence of how little actual care they put into making sure what they say is true I got it right then. On a more serious note, I know they always say that Lily bullies her fans for not having the exact same taste as her so I just want to say here and now, I only agree with Lily's takes about 60% of the time and I'm a fan of a lot of things that she just doesn't care for, and I've never once felt bullied by her dislike of those things when watching her videos or reading her blog. I don't need people I'm a fan of to validate my every interest, and the fact that they see her dislike of things as somehow attacking people who do like them shows how little confidence and self esteem they have in themselves and their own interests. I have a lot of respect for Lily for being clear and direct about things she does and doesn't like instead of pandering and putting on an act, and I watch her videos because I know even if I don't agree with her opinion it will be well thought out and presented, and it'll be enjoyable to watch.

This might not be very insightful, or profound or whatever, but what a great fucking video. I've had this topic on my mind for so long and I'm sure people have talked about it before but never in a way that has helped me work through my own thoughts like this. This behaviour has always creeped me out so much, and it sometimes feel like it's everywhere. When I first noticed it, I was when watching videos about Yanderedev. It was such an extreme documentation of very personal aspects of this one guy and I just couldn't stop thinking... Why do we care so much? That he's a bad programmer, or a bad person or that he got fat and he lied about buying a sex doll? Because obviously the active constant stalkers have a different reason for harassing people but there's still a huge audience of people completely willing to watch in vincidaction and enjoyment, instead of going "Well that's shit" and moving on. I've had people apologize for bad opinions of creators they consumed, I've had friends audibly upset about how one throwaway comment ruined an opinion piece because they couldn't get behind it anymore. It feels so wrong to project yourself into other human beings that all you do is consume art from. There's this creepling feeling in me that just sees a coliseum's worth of people that cannot take anything useful out of something if it isn't word for word what they want to think they would say in their place. Why do we feel owed from other people being "good". I don't mean politicians and millionares and people that have effect and weight in our every day lifes I mean people from our communities. Why are we owed them being nice, or apporachable. Why do we get mad when they say something "wrong" and aren't "convinced" when we reach out. Why do we get pissed when they don't accept our "help" to fix their game or do better stories or whatever it is this week. It's obvious that a harassment campaign will always find excuses to be a harassment campaign. But why is it so normal for the coliseum to treat public figures like little ragdoll extentions of ourselves that you can hit when misbehaving. I don't miss there being a huge audience/creator divide, but the people are the same they were before it was gone, and I really don't think it helped. If Heaven is full of people then it'll be exactly the same as earth.

Honestly, this video is really comforting to me, I've had to watch it a few times cause I've had several issues with people coming after me for being one of 2 or 3 LGBT peoples raised in my hometown. Back when I was in high-school I had come out and immediately people showed their true colors, supposed friends were now giving my bullies my route that I walked to get to work so that they could drive slowly past me and throw fruit at me. And I started to get hate mail from people who shouldn't know my address, I was able to hide it from my family (there was a lot of shit going on and I didn't want to dump my issues in the mix) and when I moved the letters seemed to follow, I would later find that one of my closest friends was actively giving these people my address to send me this crap. At time of writing I am now with my wonderful husband, and the hateful mail and messages have stopped. But for years I never understood why they would do this, seeing this video kinda showed me how pathetic they must be, because what happy logical person would waste 4 years of there lives to make the life of one gay man do uncomfortable and make him feel unsafe by continues sending hateful and hurtful mail to there home? So thank you Lily, this really made me feel seen and not crazy.

I have always wanted to delve into the minds of this lot after seeing such scorn thrown onto Lily on Tumblr and Twitter, but there were a few things stopping me. 1. Mental Health. Even I know it would damage my mind reading all the rhetoric and bull crap. I would probably try to defend her before I finished or just cry out of rage that this happens to folks all over just for living a certain way with past mistakes constantly drilled into you. 2. I'm definetly not Lily or a friend of hers. I have no initial place speaking for her unless it comes up in my feed if it ever does. Lily has friends and fans who adore her- and want her to be happy and free of this shit. Which leads into the last point: 3. Saying anything won't stop them. They'll scream to the high heavens and plan things that truely mean harm to her. They don't care about the truth, they want to see Lily burn. I've seen enough folks fall into despair because of monsters like these assholes who can't deal with the fact they're wrong and terrible. They are part of the reason I want to be outside more and endulge in the fruits of my labor- no matter how hard it is. I never want to be these fools. I want to live in the real world unlike them and their ilk. And so I will.

To be honest. I actually had no idea who Chris Chan was, nor what she did. I didn't even know she was the one who made that comic. I didn't even really know that there was a comic. I just saw the character, thought "that looks like ass, I never want to see that again", and for the most part never did, rarely ever seeing the full page.

yes…Yes…YES!!! Gosh dang Lilly, how do you always know exactly the right things to say about stuff? I briefly engaged with a few of these freaks a couple months ago, I spent days arguing with them and provided a multi paragraph essay on all the things you hadn’t done that they were trying to claim you did. I provided links, screenshots, and various other pieces of evidence that clearly contradicted everything they were saying about you, and they still refused to admit that you’re not the monster they try to pretend you are. Ultimately, they couldn’t deny the validity of my evidence and argument, so they just blocked me instead. That didn’t surprise me though, I was kind of expecting it. What did surprise me, is that I actually got one person in that forum to change their mind about you. They checked out my links and what not, and came to the conclusion that you’re not really a bad person. So…huzzah?

It's very funny, as someone who's doing the Psychological side of Criminology, saying she's a medical professional to do armchair diagnosis is like pulling out a gun only for it to spray water. Point is, doing that is not only amoral but a breach of the American Psychiatric Association's Medical Ethics principles. Fact is, the Goldwater rule (A rule where psychiatrists should not give any professional opinion about public figures to whom they have not examined in person AND to whom they have not gained consent from to discuss their mental health) immediately shows she's not a professional, even though professionals do break the rule, doing so to get public figures on the internet is just really sad.

This video came onto my recommended at the right time. Someone who I was acquaintances with many years ago (2017 I wanna say?) has recently started this hate campaign against me, trying to claim that I’m stalking them (meanwhile I barely even think of them nowadays) meanwhile have been keeping close watch on all my social media and claiming that everything I post is somehow a hidden jab against them. I’ve had to lock down all my socials and decline follower requests to make them stop and even now I’m not entirely sure there isn’t someone within my followers secretly sending them screenshots. And I’m far from the first person they did this to, they’ve bounced from person to person for years, sometimes even coming back to people they’ve already left alone years ago just because they don’t have a current candidate to target, and they’ll stop at nothing to make your life miserable. And from what I heard they even sent a dm to some singer that their last victim liked trying to tell that singer that their victim was this nasty horrible person who that singer needed to call out and remove from their fandom. It’s fucking terrifying. I’ve had a couple stalkers before, including one with violent tendencies, but this current one is still the scariest because with the internet there’s no solid way to get away from them and keep them away from you like there is with real life stalking, they’ll just make alt accounts to get around your blocks and get other people to do the stalking for them (yes, my current stalker has a track record of doing this 🙃). Thank you for making this video and helping me feel like I’m not alone in dealing with situations like this. Like, some people need to have their access from the internet removed.

It seems that having opinions or takes that one will defend is grounds for harassment to some people. It amazes me sometimes how small a slight needs to be to make people obsessed with someone’s content, and how places like Discord and Reddit accidentally coddle that kind of cult behavior. It has legitimately made me question putting out content before because a lot of my scripts are movie or show reviews that are less than favorable, and I really don’t care to hold anyone’s hand through my criticism. And I am somewhat concerned that if I am not careful with my wording and “marketing”, I may end up with stalkers of my own. But at the same time, so do some of the most safe and soft KZbinrs still have stalkers and creeps after their every move. At the end of the day, I refuse to let anyone stop me from putting out my content.

Side note: I’m very glad you mentioned Vaush, because he genuinely disgusts me with how he behaves towards people who disagree with him. He acts like he is 100% with women and trans people but he’ll deliberately be sexist or hateful if you dare to oppose him on anything. God forbid you agree to debate him. I genuinely didn’t know he’d directed hate at Kat before, but I’m not remotely surprised with the way he treated you in his dumbass SU response. He said something blatantly sexist at JK Rowling on Twitter a while back and thought she wouldn’t punch back down at him. And ah yes, J.K. is totally the kind of person who will step down when someone acts sexist in response to her saying something disagreeable, especially if he’s a man! /s He genuinely just helps her perpetuate the idea that everyone against her is hateful. If he disagrees with you, he will have you on his stream only to repeatedly assert he already knows “what you’re like” and speculate on your beliefs whilst silencing you. And he does this to women regularly for disagreeing with him. Oh, and he thinks being blatantly sexist to your ideological opponent can be strategic and it’s totally valid. I’m of the mind that I’d rather do a long form video detailing why someone is wrong, or something is bad, and then call it a day and go eat, sleep and have a life outside of that topic. Vaush should really try it sometime, and then he might not be so angry and toxic all the time.
