I'm glad you brought up the Nanny, because it's one of the only slow burn romances that actually work. It's slow burn for a reason: the guy is emotionally constipated. It's all about slow, steady growth, with sprinkles of "get over yourself". I could rant about that show all day, but I just want to say that it is the only good example of slow burn romances that doesn't end with them getting together, getting together opens a new chapter in their lives.

Mind me banging the beaten drum but I'd also throw Pam and Jim from The Office as some of the best slow burn on TV, and even then they were still developing before they got together so that could be a nice final destination for all that. Plus, they were a fantastic couple that got plenty of focus while they were together and still got their own arcs and helping with others. Also they're just really cute.

Not a show but a webcomic, I read Lore Olympus at the beginning, because it's a comic about Hades and Persephone, which is the cutest Greek couple, with beautiful artwork. After like 60 episodes of will they won't they (with the rape of the heroine by another guy.....), I just dropped the comic, too long for nothing. One year later, I found another webcomic about these two, it was awesome because the author kept the tension short, like 20 episodes, and then just moved to other things, involving them being in couple. Tldr Couples are more interesting than flirt! Stop writing will they won't they stories!

The funny thing is that in The Amazing World of Gumball the relationship between the main character and his love interest Penny get so much more adorable AFTER they start officially dating. Granted it happens many seasons into the series but thanks to it being completely episodic you could skip all the way to the episodes where they do get together and it is so much more rewarding to see them interact as a couple. It still astonishes me how quickly TOH crew were able to progress Luz and Amity’s relationship in less than two seasons and all for the better because now we get to see them be so soft with each other for the rest of the series. I also love how there are some people who think Luz is stupid for starting a relationship with Amity despite trying to find a way back to the human world, as if Amity wouldn’t drop her shitty family in a heartbeat to spend the rest of her life with her adorable girlfriend and her sweet mother.

I love the Owl House kids. Because that’s what they are and what people need to remember. They’re kids. Luz, King, Amity, Willow, Gus, Hunter, and Mattholomule are still kids and they need love; as any child deserves and I’m happy to see the Owl House acknowledge the need for younger people to have stable, unconditionally loving relationships. As someone in a caretaker profession, one thing that always annoyed me with fandoms that had child main characters is this stubbornly willful ignorance fans have in how they treat, complain about, or analyze child characters and hold them to adult standards. Adultification is a genuine problem in fan cultures and I’m glad that you mention their young ages. Children can not and should not be handled or judged the same way you would treat an adult. So yes, I’m squeezing at seeing Eda call Luz her kid and adopting King. I also want to see an episode where Luz and Amity go on a cute date and Hunter gets to take a nap …. With plushies.

I cried so many tears of happiness at that confession scene, and every time they said "girlfriend" in the latest episode, I think I got a little dopamine boost. I love the way that Luz and Amity just get to be cute girlfriends and how Amity's character is used in a different way now that she and Luz are dating. I'm glad it tied her issues surrounding needing to be the best with her blushy gay disaster moments. It just makes sense for Amity's character, and even though great effort and thought have clearly been given to every part of this show (except maybe Lilith), I'm still somehow surprised that there's actual solid storytelling in this new relationship aspect. It's just so good!

One of the charming things about Amity's and Luz's relationship is the way it's written as just- Two kids that really like each other :') I don't know how to exactly word this but uhm- From time to time again relationships that are between people younger than teens are identical to adult relationships. Which is such a shame. I got into my first relationship when I was the same age as the two lovely ladies and me and my partner acted JUST like them. It was so cute seeing them act so awkward and lovey dovey. It sort of felt like- Re-living that amazing period of my life :')

I totally agree with you in the end, where Fandom and even people's opinions today are either "all or nothing" you either have to say something is amazing or that it's trash. You can't say something is "good", It has to be great. Or if something isn't good, it has to be terrible. Often times people not realizing that terrible things can either be great, via enjoying terrible writing, or have good ideas that were poorly executed fully, something like the recently re-released Alpha Protocol game that people ragged on for years. I also totally agree that I'm sick and tired of drawn out romance plots. I want writers to be more direct, and stop drama baiting people when its not necessary. Especially seen with the likes of spiderman and the eternal tease of his love life. Watching the owl house and them just having Luz and Amity get together, and explore the ideas of their relationship is amazing and a breath of fresh air, it's also why I love My Adventures with Superman, since they get to their feelings pretty quick, and just go, "they know his secret identity, now let's do weird shit" and had Doom Patrol villains show up for an ep, and another one with multiversity crap.

I definitely agree with you on SheRa. I wish that, at the very least there had been a sixth season, with season five ending with a cliff hanger of chipped Catra pulling down her hood, and season six starting with Adora and Catra’s fight, then the bulk of season 6 being Catra and Adora mending their relationship…and then getting a season seven of them repairing the damage done by both of the Hordes and figuring out how to be a couple.

I love Raine because, they were recently elected to a high position of power, but they’re also the leader of a rebellion against said power and they’re trying to take it down from the inside… and they’re also nonbinary! Like, they’re such a strong character! Also, if there’s one thing enbies are known for, it’s definitely rebellion against an unjust patriarchy.

Yeah it's quite frustrating that just because 2 characters are together that they can't interact normally anymore for a lot of people. Whenever people enter a relationship in a show it kind of fundamentally changes the characters, when it really shouldn't, and they usually end up breaking up shortly thereafter. People think relationships are unstable and broken by the slightest push which is wrong on basically every scale.

Raine is one of my comfort characters. I love that the show has consistently used the correct pronouns for them and I would like to see them more in the show before the end of season 2. Also other shows should build up the non- binary rep and use of pronouns from this and KIPO which is another favorite show of mine

You are, as always, completely correct. The Owl House is so refreshing for just... writing a romantic relationship between two characters who happen to both be girls. It doesn't have to be a big deal, it doesn't have to be earth-shattering or novel, and while I can and will praise it for being well-written, I cannot wait for the day when we no longer feel the need to praise it just for being written at all. Also, on a more personal note, I appreciate that you extend your passion for good LGBT+ representation to aces like me. It's so hard to find anyone who is actually asexual/aromantic in any fiction, when it's so important. I still maintain that I would have figured myself out years earlier if I'd had even **one** ace character to connect with. Also also, Raine is amazing and needs to return to the story as soon as possible so we can see more of them. Please, Dana, don't leave them waiting until the end of the season.
