Luxury is living life on my own terms. Luxury is debt free. Luxury is financial peace. Luxury is good health. Luxury is my clean, organized quiet home. Luxury is a walk in nature. Luxury is my vacation. Luxury is my altruistic career. Luxury is my gratitude to God for all of the above. Dam I'm lucky.

It's this woman in Uganda who posts about her life in her village. I would trade my American life for hers in a New York minute. Think of America as a woman with tons of makeup. While she may be pretty, what she really looks like is hidden, and her struggle you will not see until you really get to know her.

@@learning5188 I think I know the woman you are talking about! But the reality is African village life is hard. Often basic amenities such as electricity and clean water don't exist there. Also women do the bulk of the work and as for health care, it's often non existence

@@ifeifesi I have no delusions about the struggle of village life; and the lack of the healthcare and clean water bothers me. However, there were new homes there that have electricity and running water. The last time I checked, she was in the midst of building a more modern home. Hmm, I actually think Jackie sidestepped the core issue here. The "black women in luxury' movement (along with the wider self care movement) was very much needed in the black community as a signal to black women that we deserve the best of everything and that WE are entitled to benefit from what we work so hard for instead of handing all those benefits to everybody else.

I'm pretty sure she meant it as for the longest time black women as a collective put the needs of others before our own. Now, especially in these times of social media, black women have the luxury mindset (as a lot of us may not have been exposed to certain ideas), but that was not always the case. There is definitely a huge difference with the way we see ourselves and how we should treat ourselves and be treated than just 10 years ago - there's been a major shift.

That is correct, Luxury is knowledge, morals, goals, setting boundaries, following your intuition, carrying a type of authority with you, so when people who don’t know how to perceive you or low vibrational try to hurt you and you persevere you begin to get the royalties for standing on your beliefs and knowing that your standard wasn’t so high that people couldn’t understand you they just wanted to see if you are who you say you are❤❤❤❤

And it baffles me that some of us look down on “soft life or BGL”. Like it’s okay for us to want different things. I watched a BW creator I won’t say her name laugh at soft life. It was hurtful and I honestly think she doesn’t understand the movement is about black women enjoying themselves and resting etc…
@sparklesp9304

Honestly, I can see both sides of this... When your community is falling to pieces, it seems selfish to rest and seek luxury, which may have been why she laughed. Our community is in the shape that it is in because we keep giving our wombs to men who haven't positioned themselves to care for a wife and kids BECAUSE we don't think we are worthy of luxury.

Black women are often the biggest enforcers of the rules that hold other black women back. A lot of black people don't want black women to enjoy luxury or a soft life because that means we are rejecting the role of mule that the black community expects us to play. They really believe that we should spend our money on everyone and everything except ourselves.

I’m not going to lie, seeing black women live luxury lives in regards to tangible things is FIRE 🔥 not to mention inspiring. Growing up in the 90s I had an aunt who was truly the rich auntie. Money maker , and did what she pleased and went where she pleased and had finer things! As my own woman Luxury doesn’t quite come in the form of tangibles. Having peace, a clear mind , being able to excercise and simple things such as taking a walk or being able to decompress. In regards to tangibles for me, traveling seeing new things and places outweighs anything!

Most young black women have never been exposed to class. Westerners only expose the urban struggles in the media. I’m not saying that classy black woman don’t exist, there are many, but as far as an example there are few to none. So I do think that black luxury lifestyle is needed in order to show an alternative lifestyle. It’s not necessary to be rich for luxury, just think of the women living in the era of Dorothy Dandridge, Eartha Kitt, or Diahann Carrol. Those woman’s personality and attitude exude poise, class and etiquette, and were an example of black femininity.

Luxury is having God in your life, spending time with your loved ones, and good health, luxury is loving yourself without putting down or belittling others to make yourself feel good, luxury should not be loud and it is not attention-seeking

For me, I don't have the money or resources Jackie has but I do have my own style of luxury. Where she may vacation in French, I may only be able to go to Miami. That's okay! Everyone may have a different definition of what luxury is for them and I don't have to keep up with the jones. LOL I may not be able to buy a $250 bottle of perfume but I can buy an $80-$100 bottle but you won't catch me looking down on $5 body sprays!
