Netanyahu is just a reflection of the fascist supremacist isr**I society. When you have benGvir, Gallant, and company spouting even more hate fueled extremist rhetoric, Netanyahu is just an easy and obvious fall guy (especially with his own criminal history). The solution we need is a single Palestinian state within equal rights for everyone there. This zionist ideology is an evil no different from WWII nazism which will perpetually fuel conflict and human rights abuses. The West needs to sit rhis one out, all they ever do in the region is destabilize. I did my own Middle East Studies at UT Austin and am Gen X. Why would today's student, and faculty, protesters believe there's hopeful prospects? What's being floated -- is old and slightly repackaged offering. If it is coming from the Netanyahu government, red flag whatever it is. The Palestinians have been on a pathway to 'statehood' since the Clinton Administration. Yet, this current conflict has revealed that the Clinton 'peace' talks were just smokescreens. Statehood for too long has been kicked like a can down the road purposefully designed so the Likud party could undermine there ever being a Palestinian state. This is exactly how Hamas was permitted to take power in Gaza. If you remember the 2007 Hamas coup against Fatah, Netanyahu sealed the borders. There was no way to rush troops or material support to Fatah to fight Hamas or to dethrone Hamas as they unfolded their coup against Fata. The Likud Party and Netanyahu /wanted/ Hamas to succeed in this coup. I get that today's protesters would not take hope in these talks. The Palestinians do not need another 20 or is it 60 yearsish if we factor in the 1967 war, of yet more snowjobs, sorry 'peace talks', promising them to wait, wait, and wait some more before they get a state. They need a state in all of the occupied territory from 1967 ala UN Resolution 242 with East Jerusalem made an international city that is open to all people and faiths, no restrictions. State NOW -- peace talks would be good but should come AFTER a real Palestinian state is established.

Israel's government is structured as a parliamentary state. So long as Netanyahu leads a majority in the Knesset (Israel's parliament), he remains Prime Minister. Out of the Knesset's total 120 seats, Netanyahu's seven-party coalition has only 61 seats --a very thin majority indeed. If this region becomes uninhabitable due to the climate emergency over the next 10-15 years all of this will be for naught.
@WBS00114 күн бұрын
That won't be the only area with climate issues. Thinking of Denmark, which is about 280x229 miles at about 102 feet above msl. If sea level rises not-that-much in 30 years, one huge storm with a good tidal surge and one huge wave can overrun the whole place. Also, most of humanity lives near the water, which probably won't mesh well with rising sea levels.

Long term, I don't think a bifurcated Palestinian state works. I think in the end, there's going to have to be a land swap for territory adjacent to the West Bank and Gaza. The Palestinians will have to relocate, and a lot of Israelis near the West Bank and those already living there will need to move back to Israel. I don't think you can have a stable exclave the way Gaza currently exists. That said, I think there is a place for regional and Western Powers to build up the West Bank to be a thriving country. They can build homes, they can support infrastructure, they can even help build up businesses. I think a lot of outside support will be necessary to make Palestine stable, but I think a geographically contiguous Palestinian state is also a prereq for any kind of real peace
@kathryngibbons110414 күн бұрын
Jared Kushner stated back when trump master fixer that Palestinian people should be relocated to Egypt be cause of prime waterfront real estate development. If te Palestinian people in Gaza and West Bank be United in a state divided with Israel that would be valuable to Palestinian people and aid to rebuild there country that Israel destroyed that they can live in peace and prosperity and peace and security with dignity and fairness of creating the 2 state solution , hope it can succeed. But like I stated, Jared and his proposed solution was only for Israel’s best interests.

@@kathryngibbons1104 and his. Those people do nothing unless it benefits them. Remember, Jared believes only in Israel surviving and thriving.
@byecatsstacey746714 күн бұрын
@@geralyn-mm Jared has been heard discussing real estate potential for Gaza beaches already. One of the longest running sticking points has always been how to unite that divided population. Israel has never wanted to for security purposes, obviously, and the Palestinian people have been reticent to concede yet more territory, especially when it leaves them with no shipping port for trade access. This will continue to cause diplomatic concerns, especially as the United States has just built a nice "temporary" pier there.

While they’re at it, they could use the Palestinians as slave laborers to turn the Giza Pyramids into a Trump resort Hotel, and build a Golf course around the Sphinx!!! Imagine the luxury… And the Membership fees!!!$!$!$! Btw… I’ve got a bridge…
@gypsyvegan14 күн бұрын
This is the crux of it. There is no possible way to declare {the acreage that currently makes up the occupied territories} a sovereign state. Gaza is out of the question; the most generous estimates have livability mostly restored by 2050 if reconstruction were to begin now (kind of hard when they keep bombing the 🤬 out of it). The Isrealis in their illegal homesteads and illegal Santa-Barbara-esque settlements are absolutely not going to be willing to just up and re-locate. How a "two state solution" is still anywhere near the table, let alone on it, I have no idea.
