So he thought that they were promoting using men like puppets. The song was actually talking about Asian artists and the Kpop/Jpop industry abuse and misrepresentation of their artists - especially women (hypersexualizing girls). It was an f-u to the industry not men. Simon wanted to show that they can be classy and still amazing. Like the creator said, he was just going through stuff and it hit a raw nerve.
