Considering The Batman was inspired by Long Halloween, what if the Batman 2 is inspired (at least partially) but the sequel to Long Halloween, Dark Victory. Bruce could adopt Dick Grayson in the sequel as a way of showing Bruce being more philanthropic/inspiring hope, but he doesn’t make an appearance as Robin until the end of the movie. Just a thought

I think the hope part makes a lot of sense with how things were left in the first part. But realistically I think the idea of robin would be teased earlier on with the actual name not coming in until the end of the film as a "much more to come" type send off. I highly doubt they are stopping with this one with how successful the first part was and second part will most likely be.

Having Dick Grayson in the Batman 2 is actually a stroke of genius because its been decades since he was in a movie and it would slightly undercut and yet ease the audience into Gunn's plans to have Damien Wayne in the Brave and the Bold. Execution is everything though. They need to display the positives and negatives of Bruce fighting crime with a minor by his side and also show how Dick can feasibly hold his own next to Bruce.

I think it’s a brilliant idea for 2 reasons outside of just storytelling 1. It preps the GA for a Robin on screen. The last time Robin was on the silver screen it wasn’t well liked to say the least, however given that Matt Reeves has put out some high quality Batman content already and there’s a level of (good) bias towards The Batman, adapting Robin will most likely do well depending on how it’s done. 2. It sets Dick Grayson out to be a constant in every single universe just like the comics. It’s been said time and time again that Dick is the heart of the DC universe while Superman is the face of it. So to have Dick Grayson be a pivotal role in both universes would cement his character in the real world as more than just Batman’s ex-sidekick.
@gustaf3811 Жыл бұрын
Batman is the heart of DC not Dick but other than that I agree with most of what you said. The idea that Matt Reeves Batman is a realistic take I never really understood, Batman literally crashes into cars while trying to escape. A young batman needs a sidekick. Especially after the first movie, there would be so many people coming for him at once he'll need someone to help buy him time while he prepares for all these new villains. It only makes sense, & its not hard to believe he'd train a kid in his same situation & that there's literally nothing batman can do about it because the kid would be so motivated to fight. And he could definitely fight in a way that's not too physical at first & hiding in the shadows, assisting from the distance, only getting physical when he needs to.

The Batman already took a lot from both The Long Halloween and Dark Victory. Bruce taking in Dick, helping him get justice for his parents when he couldn’t for himself, to prevent him from being consumed by the same loneliness and desire for vengeance, and also learning to open himself up, is the perfect continuation of his arc. Even Alfred can follow that DV scene where he treats Dick like he thought he should have treated a young Bruce when his parents died. Robin is an essential part of the Batman mythos. He predates Alfred and originally debuted less than a year after Batman. In most continuities Dick Grayson becomes Robin in the third to fifth year of Bruce’s career. For the past few decades, live-action theatrical Batman films have neglected the character and hindered Bruce’s character progression as a result. I have faith Matt Reeves understands all this and can do their relationship justice. As for fitting into the more grounded world, the solution is simple. Have this film mainly feature Dick Grayson and his origin, with that relationship. He can try and strike out on his own to find Tony Zucco or whoever killed his parents, maybe even parallel Drifter Bruce, similar to many versions. Bruce could stop him at first, but then help him get closure. Maybe at the end, after revealing his identity (which in Dark Victory btw, is the first time he revealed it to anyone, even over Selina), he can agree to train him but makes it clear he doesn’t want him to end up like he did. Heh, maybe in the climax Dick can see he needs help so he makes a proto-Robin suit and goes out one more time to save him against orders, almost like Detective Comics #38.

@@gustaf3811 Yeah something like that seems reasonable. I do think he should be around 13-15 in this film at least and 17-19 in the third and final film. Hey Boba! Another great video. As much as I'd like to see Robin pop up more in the Batman part III, I just had a really interesting theory. Imagine the opening scene (Batman part II) being the scene at the circus when the Flying Graysons die at the hand of a mysterious man in a fedora and trench coat. Imagine if that turns out to be Clayface, and as the movie goes on Bruce finds out that Dick's parents had a quarrel with Clayface and he ended up plotting their death. It would be interesting to have a similar reveal on Dick's parents (like Bruce's in the first film) and their past and Bruce having the opportunity to grow as a father figure and helping Dick get through this. Even could modify Clayface's backstory to being a part of the circus or having a tie-in to the circus. What are your thoughts ?

And he has recently been doing well as a voice actor on Harley Quinn so he already has some DC cred.

At the end of the first one, I thought it's a perfect time to introduce Dick Grayson (not Robin). With Batman/Bruce wanting to be a light for Gotham and how it's seen that Grayson is Bruce's light, I wouldn't mind Grayson entering the picture and inspiring Bruce . So focus first on the Bruce and Dick Grayson dynamic is the way I would go. There's so much character development there: why Bruce would even adopt a kid, the whole shift of thinking when becoming a parent, Bruce maybe thinking he can save this one kid to prevent another 'Riddler', etc. Also you can focus on Grayson and his whole trauma. Then maybe in movie 3 or towards the very end there could be an outside threat (like the Court of Owls) that pushes the the whole training of Grayson to protect himself but then evolves in Robin (but at a later age). That way maybe you skirt but also address the whole issue of child soldier and child endangerment (especially with the mindset the world has today) and maybe tackle those issues. Like Wonder Woman did in Young Justice when she called Batman out. It's a tricky slope, but first I would just do Dick Grayson, don't even tackle Robin. Kinda do the opposite of the first movie where it was all Batman but very little Bruce.

Introducing Dick Grayson in The Batman Part II could definitely work. Maybe start him off before he officially becomes Robin, like with Selina Kyle who hasn’t become CatWoman just yet. That way it can show the progress/development of Dick and Bruce Wayne’s relationship not just as the Dynamic Duo but as father and son.
@laurelsilberman5705 Жыл бұрын
It’s like you said: Canonically, it would actually make sense timeline-wise for Dick to be introduced soon, and it would also be the logical artistic parallel to those meaningful moments with the mayor’s son from the first movie. And Dick changes Bruce, for the better, pretty much from the beginning. He alters the paradigm from just Batman to the Dynamic Duo forevermore. And that’s significant because in that regard, more than any other hero, Batman is only one half of a team; he serves one function, and Robin serves another-Batman is there to punish the wicked and protect the city, but Robin is there especially to advocate for and comfort the victims. At least that is how Dick describes the mantle of Robin to Damian in the comics-as being for the victims. Because Batman as a hero is so fucking scary, man😂Half the reason he works, long-term, is because underneath all that, he also exudes big Dad energy, and always has one or more young hero under his wing and by his side, which by nature highlights Batman’s emotional and protective nature at his core. Like….yes, he dresses as a giant Bat and beats people up primarily, but he also has mentored/fostered/parented roughly a dozen troubled young people, some of whom were already well down a worse path than the one he showed them. Like his relationship with Cassandra in particular has a special place in my heart, not to mention Damian and all that.

I think he’s planned on bringing in Dick Grayson since the first movie-the amount of time focusing on how much Bruce sees himself in the Mayor’s son was, in my mind, a clear precursor to Bruce adopting Dick. It will also work in terms of just HOW emo Bruce is in the first film-initially he adopts Dick because he sees himself in him, but Dick eventually brings Bruce through some of the darkness, and focuses Bruce beyond the death of his parents to be more fully committed to being a signal of hope and protection for the innocent of Gotham.

I think the idea that the villain of this movie targets the orphanage some way leaving maybe dick the only one left or something could be a cool way of having bruce adopt him at the end of the movie. I'd say they should then have a time skip of some kind, like less than a year where Bruce starts his training and then in the next movie we get to see a decently well established batman now have to struggle to keep robin safe while fighting what I presume will be the joker
@BillyTheKid_5906 Жыл бұрын
Boba I have a theory/would love your take (again assuming for now/running with this as true) - Based on what the scooper said “13 years old” what if, Reeves takes a slightly different approach/similar to what he did with Bruce, where we don’t see the whole circus scene/Dick’s parents dying. What if like about a third of the way into the movie, Bruce is still neglecting being Bruce a lot/having a hard time getting involved with the company etc, but maybe there’s a Wayne foundation setup for at risk youths, Alfred heard/knows the story - Dick, is put into this position because the event took place in Gotham, and Alfred gets in Bruce’s ear a few times like “BECAUSE I COULDNT GET YOU TO GO THERE!” Saying he thinks this kid really needs some help and it would benefit Bruce as well/get him to care about something else besides being Batman. Bruce finally looks into it, it hits him harder than he expected it to/sees a lot of himself in Dick like the moment he had with the mayors son and then slowly but surely that’s what brings him out more day by day as Bruce, not Batman. This way you have a big plot point for the story arch of Bruce Wayne, you can introduce Dick and show them bonding, we don’t spend too much time on the circus scene but it’s clearly understood what happened and also he’s only 13 so he doesn’t have to be Robin right away, Bruce probably sees the potential/his wheels start spinning about it but you could bring Dick along as a younger troubled kid for a little while Then maybe maybe like last scene after some guidance and training with Bruce throughout the movie he suits up as Robin, or you could just set it up to bloom in the third movie
@matthewtapia1669 Жыл бұрын
i think the batverse should avoid robin right now since James Gunn is already doing a entire batfamily at the start with a robin. the batman trilogy should be about Bruce evolving into the batman we know from the comics at the end of the trilogy. if they can convince matt reaves to do 6 movies i would add robin in the next trilogy with the court of owls being the sixth movie Villans since dick Grayson has ties to them with his grandfather being a talon in the comics. if we get a robin, he should be teased in the post credit scene of the batman part 3 where we see Bruce attend the circus and we dick parents die while Bruce stares at dick ending there. the batman part 4 could skip a year and dick already is adopted by Bruce and the movie could see dick learning to become robin. dr Hugo strange could be kidnapping street kids in the movie and turning them into his mutants like in the comics. dick Grayson could be a target of Hugo Stange in the movie because he has been adopted by the famous Bruce Wayne and Hugo could already be aware Bruce is batman. robin should be a child in the movie like 11 or 12 all they need to do is get the right writer, actor, and team to make it work. if it stays a trilogy, they can do a comic book continuation where we see Bruce train robin and we can see Harley Quinn in the comic tie in. the problem with making dick or Jason 17 or 19 is you might as well make them nightwing or red hood because it skipped their robin journey. dick Grayson becomes nightwing at 17 or 18 in the comics along with Jason becoming red hood at a older age .

I would assume Batman gets more involved in the orphanage. Mad Hatter is possibly a therapist who is hypnotizing parents and kidnapping children to become Talons for the Owls. Adam West was 37 as Batman and Burt Ward was 19. That was an 18 year difference. Makes perfect sense .

So for me its not an age thing its a time frame thing, although batman isn’t perfect when he adopts Grayson, he is definitely more balanced and rounded than he is at the end of “the batman” so I would definitely want to see more growth focus before grayson is introduced, we still haven’t even seen his ‘Bruce Wayne” persona yet also! So that is something we need to see growth of too, unless they just “montage” a bunch of timeframe

I think it’ll just be Dick Grayson in the Batman 2 then set him up as Robin in the third film. This is a small cinematic universe. The character will grow.

Hush would be my top pick since Bruce Wayne doesn't have a social life outside of being Batman. He could start popping up at social events and Alfred makes a comment about how he's glad to see Bruce going out more. But Bruce is like wtf are you talking about.

If more people would follow THIS CHANNEL, they would already know all this stuff, since we covered it months ago, lol. This is "THE" The Batman channel. PERIOD. If you want to know anything The Batman, this is the place to be. And I will defend that status against ANY other channel on KZbin. Yes, I'm being that cringe about it, but the truth is the truth. As for Robin showing up in The Batman, I'm conflicted about it. On one hand, I don't want a Ronin in this universe and want the sole focus to be on Bruce and Batmans development. I know Robin is part of that development, but that's just how I feel. On the other hand. I think it could be interesting, but not until the third movie. Like Boba said, have the circus scene towards the end of the second movie, and fully introduce Dick in the third. But if I'm honest, I think I'd rather have Batman: TBATB in cooperate Robin in the DCU. Where it's more believable that a kid would be capable of fighting monsters and other villains and not immediately get killed, lol. But if Reeves wants to do Robin, then I 100% trust his vision and would be cool with it. I know he would find an interesting way to involve Robin and make it believable to audiences in a grounded world. As for Clayface, I'd actually love a golden age version of the character. That hasn't been done in live action yet, and I think Matt could write something amazing for that character. So, if they do Clayface, that's how I'd prefer they do it. Plus, I don't really see them doing the big blob monster in The Batman universe.

Robert's version is perfect for a Robin. I think it depends where on the timeline the next one is. If Batman 2 jumps a few years I would bet Grayson would already be adopted and living in Wayne Manor. But Reeves might want to focus more on a Bruce-centric story. Either way, I'm on board 100% with what Matt Reeves does. I hope they give Bruce a developing 2nd persona where he starts "acting" a bit more playboyish in the public and then drops the "mask" while in private. That would be cool. And no way this happens but a full on horror flick with Manbat and Clayface as the villians would be amazing. Or adapt Mask of the Phantasm. I do agree with your counterpoints too. I don't think an 18 or 19 year old works. If he's in it it has to be hitting Bruce's paternal instinct.

from how we left battinson off, it was showing us how batman went from being a nightmare for thugs to a beacon of hope for the people. In this vein, having a robin would greatly help batman drop the edge without taking away the stakes, cause he has someone to look after and guide but that means something that can be taken or broken. Also, dicks origin story could fit well into this gritier gotham thats already introduced us into the mob stuff. On the other hand, jason todd might be a better robin to introduce as an eventual red hood movie under this director would be sweeeeeet. and jasons story is much more edgy with the street kid background and torture scenes which would make the new joker a much more threatening character.
@careyj2819 Жыл бұрын
Hey boba, I have an idea. What if Dick Grayson in Matt Reeves world IS just a 13 year old kid. I think this could be grounded if the character is introduced the right way. Say that Dick has gone through the loss of his parents, is living in a foster home, and goes out at night to take his anger out on drug dealers/petty offenders. Bruce runs into him one night and, realizes from a conversation, that he can’t stop Dick. In this scenario, Bruce doesn’t even have to adopt him or anything like that. I could see Dick being a character like Selina Kyle in The Batman, where Dick would be doing his own thing by taking on crime, in his own way, and basically sticking it to Bruce throughout the film by telling him he can’t stop him. Bruce would have no choice but to help him or apprehend him, and I don’t think he would do the latter. So, in his right conscious, he would “train” and “guide” Dick as Bruce realizes that if he can’t stop him, he can help him deal with what he’s going through and try to keep him safe. As the film goes on and we see Robin and Batman in more situations together, I think it would feel really natural and the audience wouldn’t think, “this is ridiculous.” This could be a good start that’s both grounded and outside the box while giving the fans and general audiences something to appreciate about this film. I’d love to hear your interpretation of this idea!

Wld give the give the Batman an incredible opportunity to parent himself in a way and wld really help get his mind out the mud in time for the third film of the trilogy. This kinda goes along with the long Halloween series. In the next comic connected to it. He ended having a robin around year 4 ish. I think it being year 4 is not too bad after the penguin show progresses. I think year 4 is good time to start with the ending him solo running things as they slowly bring him and dick Grayson together. As he fights the main villain himself. With a few scenes of dick Grayson showing his skills in few scenes.

I would love to see Grayson show up in 3rd act of the movie and even a after credit scene. To make it more realistic you can have Grayson be 13 or 14. That way it would still put him on pace to become Nightwing by 20 or 21.

Hey boba I’m sure you’ve answered this before and aside from your absolute love for the Batman movie/dc in genral. What makes this project so unique for you? I follow the directors and some writers here and there but even I couldn’t dive sooo much into the way u do on this specific movie that ain’t even started shooting yet. I know we have the penguin show coming but is it just lack of other news coming out that makes u talk about this movie so much or is this (at least to u) the biggest movie aside from superman legacy that DC is doing? We already know jokers basically ready to be finished up post production at this point but idk I’ve always wondered what makes you go so hard on the Batman movies? And how do u not get burnt out when they haven’t even started shooting it yet? Much love as always man

Hey man, hope you're doing well! Probably a mix of things. I just LOVE Batman for one haha. I think Matt Reeves vision for this iteration of the character is borderline definitive in tone. I love diving into it like that because we've got a whole Batverse coming, such as the sequel movies + spin-off shows. Granted that they're quite a while away, there's such a passion for Batman and especially this take on the world that the discussion still somehow remains potent for fans who share that passion I guess. I don't really want to milk it, which is why for example we have 'The Batman discussion series' on the channel where I do a Q&A on the universe every 5 or 6 weeks or something like that. Then there's obviously videos like this regarding news, or even the slightest slithers of 'news' with rumours that people happen to talk about at the time so of course updates like this are expected. And then there's just bonus content, such as 'Adapting The Rogues Gallery Villains' in where I imagine how Reeves would do that, or retrospective videos like me reacting to Matt Reeves' directors commentary on the Joker scene so I can give my take on that. It's basically just a big passion on this channel and for sure, given the strikes it's easier to make bonus content about it. If I was swamped with brand new DCU news for example, it'd be much less of a priority when it comes to bonus content. But for now when there isn't always something to review or breakdown with news, I try find other things the audience will enjoy :)

I kinda feel like Robin should be saved for The Batman 3. But I would have no problem with seeing a younger Dick Grayson being teased in The Batman 2 towards the end. Depending on the direction that Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne will go in the next film, it will work better if he becomes more of public like more or philanthropist. I feel like the Court Of Owls could be teased too given the connection between the Court and Haly’s Circus established in the comics. Dick could be set to become a Talon in the future, with William Cobb, his great grandfather acting as another potential father figure to him aside from Bruce Wayne in the aftermath of his parent’s death. Could be an interesting take on Dick’s decision to become Robin by having him be given two paths, becoming a Talon for the Court or becoming Robin with Batman training him. Also having Grayson being a young teen (12-13) makes him very impressionable in this instance. Could make for an emotional father & son story with Bruce not wanting Dick to become obsessed like he was with vengeance, with the Court offering it to Dick perhaps. Love the videos Boba keep up the good work! 👍🏻

i dont get how robin is an unrealistic concept as much as people make it out to be in england and america kids are known to start running the streets fight for gangs and kill st the age of 11 , child soldiers are a problem in africa and asia and as a minor you can enlist for your government and fight whilst being trained to kill how is the concept of a 13 to 15 year old with better training and a bullet proof suit seem unrealistic when you take that into account i mean robin dosnt really fight to many super villans like joker in some media forms and mainly fights petty crimes and gang problems

Comic Book stories aren't made for movies because they have decades of storylines and they mess things up by trying to put decades worth of storylines in three movies. I also think they should be 3D animated that way you don't have to worry about the actors aging out of their parts.

@BobaTalks Жыл бұрын
Pattinson making a comment about his preference/desire when being asked about bringing in a Batfamily member with Reeves acknowledging that in an interview isn't anything to be looked into too deeply imo. Questions are asked in press for movies and often answers are given that fans read as confirmed things for a sequel, when in reality it's just the person being interviewed entertaining the question. I'm not saying there won't be a Robin, I don't know that. But I wouldn't really cite movie release interview answers in these scenarios tbh.

I think it would be very difficult to have a 13-year-old Dick Grayson in The Batman 2 and then have him become Robin in The Batman 3 unless the 2 films are shot back to back because the actor will age up for sure between TB2 and TB3. And there is no way Dick is gonna be Robin in TB2 given what was set up after the first movie. I think the best way is to only tease him in TB2 with a random actor, then officially cast him in TB3 with a 13-year-old actor.
