The UK Government (as well as many more) warns against all but essential travel to Pattani Province here in Thailand due to civil unrest. I was looking for information on what it's really like down here but couldn't find much, so today I hope to answer the following questions...
Is it safe to travel to Pattani Province?
What is it actually like in Pattani Province?
Should I travel to Pattani Province in Thailand?
Enjoy!

Hiya Paddy, The British Halved Pattani With Malaysia. It Used To Be A Separate Malay Kingdom, A Bit Like Brunei. The British Also Halved Kashmir, Giving One Half To India, Other To Pakistan. Again With Israel And Palestine. Thus Divide And Rule Have Planted The Seeds For Future Scenarios, Most Dubious Indeed.

A French citizen I taught FRENCH AT Prince of Songkla University ,Pattani campus during 3 years …i lived in Pattani and travelled many times ,with my students or the soccer team of the university ,through the Three southern provinces and I honestly say that I never felt threatened! …actually I enjoyed living there !

It was such an amazing video. Three southern border provinces Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat were well-known by Thai people as dangerous places. In fact, I live in Narathiwat which was actually my hometown that wasn't dangerous as people talked about. On the other hand, they were such peaceful places because there are totally lots of beautiful places and aromatic food especially local food. Moreover, these three provinces are full of plentiful nature such as, beaches, waterfall, sea of fog and others. The important point that I would like you, foreigners, and also Thai people come to visit here to teach English because the people here are very interested in learning English to be honest, but it was difficult to find native speakers or people who speak English.

Hi Paddy, Just recently discovered your channel and have enjoyed the few videos I have viewed so far. I have been travelling to Thailand since 2008, most of my holiday time is spent in a village in Korat. The south, Pattani and the neighbouring provinces are somewhere I have always wanted to travel but unfortunately have never managed to due to not having enough time, I am a person who never believes what the media speak and hopefully, you will let us know that the people you met were friendly, welcoming and showed hospitality towards you. When listening to the Azan ( the call of prayer) it is a beautiful feeling. You take care, stay safe, safe travels, looking forward to your next video from the south.

Hello Paddy I used to stay several month in Narathiwat and the village around as my wife is from there. And the people are really friendly and helpful. And in my opinion it was totally safe as a tourist, I would say it was more a hassle for the locals are they were the one to get checked often specially the young one. But in 5 months there only once did the military checked my ID with my wife as we were driving late after the 9pc curfew. In Narathiwat one of the hotel in the center called riverside has a lovely view on the river at night. I you ever want to visit a mosque just ask a local or seller who seems friendly and go with him. Have a very nice trip

We don't really like to go there because there were terrorism (and many tragic events that broke hearts of many), car bombs and conflicts and etc. But these day it became safer? like I don't hear much bad news from there anymore. Still, people there are quite welcome for foreigners but not to the locals from other provinces.

It the past, my mom told me once that when she went there for work, there were 4 or 5 non-soldiers casually walk with AKs out which is not normal at all (at least to non-US lol). People who live there are mostly Muslim. So travelling there you must be very careful about religious topics; do not ask for pork or alcohol, if not you might get some troubles with the locals. Buddhists who grew up there sometimes needed to find Hijab to cover their heads to blend in.

I was born in Pattani. I grew up there. I live in Bangkok currently. I go back there every year to visit my mom and for family reunion. This Songkran, I'm here too. I've travelled to many countries around the globe. I found Pattani is more interesting than when I was young and than many other places I visit in the world. Though what you select to present about Pattni is a bit shallow, thanks anyway for coming to Pattani. At least, you help ensure that this the place people can still visit.

Hi Paddy! Welcome to my place. Actually there're a lot of beautiful places to visit in Pattani. When I was young, around 20 years ago, we used to be one of the most famous traveling destinations in the south, we used to accomodate a lot of tourists from other parts of Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. Even though many things had changed, we still have nice beaches (much more beautiful than what you see here 😁), beautiful waterfall, old city remains, delicious local food and wonderful various cultures and folkways (Thai, Melayu and Chinese) Maybe, after the outbreak, let us wlecome you again. Love your video! Cheers! 😍

Hi Paddy, can’t wait to see your next video! I always wanted to explore Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat not least due to its cultural similarities to Malaysia. Just did a road trip around Malaysia, reaching up to Kelantan state bordering Narathiwat (they have the same Malay dialect) and crossing the amazing East-West highway to Kedah state. If you have time, check out Betong town and the Piyamit tunnel previously used by Malaysian Communist rebels in the 70s-80s.

They are cheap, fit on the end of your lens, and can be adjusted to eliminate glare or not. This way we can all see what you see. Hope that helps.

I thank you very much for your visit. I'm always welcome Thank you for bringing the economy in 3 provinces to be better. (In the past, 3 provinces were very prosperous, after all 4 colorful queens 💜💙💚💛 died, 3 provinces were colonized in Thailand. After that, tourism in 3 provinces is over. There are not many tourists. The economy is worse ) I have to thank you. that helps lead the economy 😊🙏

Maybe check out the Piyamit tunnel too.. previously used by Malaysian communist rebels. the border between Malaysia and Thailand at Sungai Kolok is also very interesting, u can just cross the border using a small boat across a 30 metre river.

Another great vlog - my advice based on twenty five in UK Aid and UK Foreign office in some pretty scary places not a million miles from where you are - is do not get too complacent. Things c9an get less pleasant quite easily - particularly at checkpoints and in more challenging southern provinces. I have worked extensively in countries such as Pakistan, and post conflict areas in Africa such as Sierra Leone and SAHEL. I note that French Government has recently advised its citizens to leave Pakistan because of recent publication of certain religious cartoons. I am sure that you are perfectly safe, but just stay aware.

I had a honda 50 in the 70's the smaller brother to the 70 and it was unbreakable but really just a city/town bike although I did go on a few 100 mile trips on it. Part of it's development was for noodle deliveries were the rider could drive one handed whilst carrying his bags of noodles in the other, noodle deliveries was big business in Japan.

I personally like your vids, Paddy. Same question as you have for those dogs. Lucky for you that you were on a bike. I encountered those number of dogs in Kachanaburi on foot, hahaha. Yeah, it is normal for Southern Thai people to invite you for food. That guy earlier is asking you to dine with them. ;-) enjoy and keep safe. Til your next vlog.

@@bigmark2424 Nah, man. It’s just really easy to find stats that show you’re much more likely to be a victim of crime in Bangkok, Paris, London, Rome, Moscow, or Los Angeles. Outside of outbursts of civil unrest, which usually don’t just erupt overnight... it’s a very safe place.
