Fun Fact: When Hobie is moving around, taking pieces off of the surrounding machines, he is actually using them to build his very own dimensional watch (the same one he gifts to Gwen later). I didn’t realize this until my second watch because it happens so fast, but you can see him taking the pieces and putting them together. 5:30

To me Hobie was the absolute highlight of the movie! At first he's set up as being a romantic rival to Miles since Gwen seems fond of him. And Pavitr only makes this "worse" by asking if Miles knows about Hobie, which makes the audience think that there is more going on between Gwen and Hobie. And then, when we finally meet Hobie, he at first seems a bit dismissive and better knowing towards Miles (but it turns out he was actually giving him genuine advice that Miles uses later= use the palms not just the fingers). Also he's trying to get Miles to think more critically of the spider-society and encouraging him to do his own thing; build your own watch, don't enlist until you know which war you're fighting. And when all the other spider people are turning on Miles, Hobie is the only one who has his back; Jessica: "Hobie you're not helping". Hobie "Good". And when Miles is trapped in Miguel's forcefield, Hobie reminds him of what he told him earlier about using his palms, thus helping him escape. When everyone else is chasing Miles, Hobie is the only one not willing to join them and actually quits the spider society for good. And then he even makes a watch for Gwen so she can assemble a team to save Miles. Hobie truly was the GOAT of the movie!
@audreym3908
@audreym3908 Жыл бұрын
I read this in another comment, but when he told Miles to use his palms when he was about to be trapped, the others thought Hobie was just trying to tell him to calm down, when in actuality, he was saying what to do. Which was brilliant of him!

The whole point, it seems to me, is that being Spider-Man is too difficult a responsibility to have without help. Which is why the spider-peeps do better when they come out to loved ones and work together as a team. What happened in Mumbattan should be the norm. I don't think the dimensions collapsing are because of messed up "canon events", but probably something related to the Spot and timey-wimey shenanigans.

I would say that ITSV is a tighter package overall, but this one certainly made improvements. It's more character focused, taking the time to flesh out miles, rio and jefferson, and the relationship they have. I love how so much of what rio was saying to miles was relevant to the rest of the movie. I also love how the movie was riddled with fan-service but it never distracted from the plot and there was so much attention to detail when it came to those elements of the film and just the INCREDIBLE art and animation as a whole. I personally am not bothered by the ending because I'm very comfortable with serialized storytelling in any format, movie or tv and I've known for months that this is a part one. This more than lives up to the original. Excellent movie. Easily the best superhero movie of 2023

"To everyone you're just an anomaly until you become the norm" is BARS and perfectly summarizes the theme I think this trilogy is going for with its own meta analysis of Miles' creation as a figure in a comics space that was routinely dismissed due to bad initial characterization/writing and the run of the mill racism we usually see targeted at characters like him online. The fact that the teams of people that work on these films also experienced a similar type of dismissal early on probably makes the success they see now even more warranted. Great video btw👍

That's acting like those criticisms are in response to two "extremes" of either end of the spectrum. Treating it like it's black and white. A movie that crams so much into so little TIME causes most things to go underdeveloped or improperly resolved. Which generally means sacrificing quality for the sake of having "more" thinking that quantity is a substitute for quality. That's why people have those types of complaints in other movies. However that doesn't mean that swinging the pendulum to the other side (which isn't even really the case anyway but we'll treat it as such for now based off the comment) will suddenly fix the problem created by having too much and/or please those people complaining. It just means there's different or similar problems for other reasons. Personally I dislike the ending (and by extension most of the movie) for the fact that it ISN'T an ending. That's like the biggest problem with it. The movie quite literally cuts off at the peak of the rising action just before the climax telling you to wait another year for the next movie to come out to see the ending (or watch back to back once both are out). Simply put that is a terrible way to format a story for a movie. A huge sin in storywriting. Comic Books? TV Shows? KZbin Series? sure. Those are forms of media dependent on being told through multiple "episodes" therefore leaving unresolved plotlines and more specifically ending on a cliffhanger. And even then it's not common practice to end episodes on such abrupt cliffhangers like that (at least not anymore) because it's exhausting a deliberate choice by the writers to be an unsatisfying end in order to manipulate viewers into coming back because they're compelled to see the resolution even if they weren't even that invested in the first place. But for movies it just doesn't work because the entire point is that they're meant to be longer, higher budget, single viewed content to get a full story. Even then, if they wanted to make it two parts then they still should have done a proper and GOOD ending for this movie, a great and recent example would be Avenger's Infinity War. That movie is clearly a two-parter meant to lead into Endgame and yet it's still a great story with its own ending and resolution. It can be watched and enjoyed fully on its own without ever NEEDING to watch Endgame. Thanos kills some Avengers, the Avengers lose, Thanos snaps, They couldn't save everyone this time, He won. At the time people loved the ending, even those who didn't know that it would lead into Endgame or any other Marvel projects, because it had its own ending and a full arc. This movie doesn't do that. It rushes to develop ~3 arcs and sets up a primary and secondary antagonist throughout the first 90% of the film. Then in the last 30 or so minutes they open up a 4th arc and introduce another antagonist. Never really resolved any arcs then (again literally) cuts off the movie by doing a quick expansion/foreshadowing to more arcs then saying "to be continued" without ANYTHING being resolved or allowing anything of real substance to happen. Salt to the wound is that it was never marketed or explicitly stated to be a part one or two either... Which doesn't change how bad the ending is but it would lessen the impact to those expecting a part two to be necessary. Then when you look back at what actually happens in the movie you realize that you just watched a 2 hour exposition dump with no resolution that could've been condensed down enough for all of it to be put into one movie in the first place. Like genuinely. The only relevant plot points / details that came out of the 2 hours is that - The Spot, in an effort to be taken seriously as a villain, becomes a multiversal powerhouse and intends to "take everything from Miles". - Miguel created the Spider-Society to ensure the multiverse doesn't collapse. - Miguel believes in the concept of "Canon Events" being the backbone of multiversal stability. - Miles doesn't want to let his dad die knowing he could prevent it and Miguel won't let Miles save him. - Miles is "the original anomaly" - Gwen gets kicked out of the Spider-Society and therefore gets a team of Spider-Friends together using Hobie's bootleg watch tech to save Miles. Some of those points could even be blended together into one. The greater focus being that it most definitely could've been condensed down to allow all of this to be all as one movie (even if 3hrs long) rather than 2 parts poorly stitched together. Takeaway is just that the movie is awful from a story experience perspective. Audio, Visual, Soundtrack, etc, are of course just as good as the first. But it does not make up for the fact that no story was even really told.
@amiruriel
@amiruriel Жыл бұрын
My first though for part 2 was that Prowler Miles would try to replace the original Miles in his universe so he can live in his spot (jealousy over his dad) and either make the original Miles stuck in the other dimension or completely disappear. Assuming he's the villain. If that's the case then both Miles have to learn the lesson of letting go and accepting (this applies for the original Miles because his dad is also yet to die) so both can team up for a final fight or something.

The ending is terrific. It's like the antithesis of the fake happy endings of most of these films - from the 1st Avengers film where they are all eating Junk food after New York is invaded by aliens and no one but Coulson is killed and they have forgotten about him.... to No Way Home - where Dr. Strange and the Nerd from 199999 nearly destroy the entire multiverse and supposedly everyone in the multiverse forgets about Parker (which if you've seen in Across the Spiderverse you realize that EVERYONE STILL KNOWS Parker so.... lol).

@Strangerz64 Жыл бұрын
"and yet 2099 calls him the Nerd as he does not have the knowledge that it is another Peter Parker/Spider grouping" Two things. 1) That does not explain 'why' the spell worked. 2) What do you think he is *angry* about regarding Dr. Strange and 199999 Nerd, if not that Peter Parker of 199999 and Dr. Strange mucked up the multiverse?? You think he doesn't know that Peter Parker is SpiderMan in 199999? He knows that Universe clearly - so who does he think *IS* Spiderman in that Universe? You think he doesn't know that everyone who knew that - was pulled into that Universe? *That's what he is complaining about.* Remember the final spell ELIMINATES ALL KNOWLEDGE OF PARKER's existence. It does not selectively remove knowledge about Spiderman. To be consistent with that spell if I say Peter Parker then you must say.... "who" (???) lol. Actually: *He would have been PULLED IN just like Andrew and Tobey by the same spell for the same reason.* Now if you claim he doesn't know......then among other things you are implying that Andrew and Tobey also don't know because the spell effected them. In which case NONE OF THEM CAN KNOW. lol. I'll said it again. The logic of No Way Home is broken - try harder to explain it, and tie yourself in knots. Take No Way Home literally - and *none of them can know Peter Parker exists...at all, period with no exceptions* because that's literally what the film repeatedly said they would do to fix things, and that was the entire rationale again.... To stop multiverse beings from coming to this Universe because they know Peter Parker is Spiderman - by completely erasing *their* knowledge of Peter's existence. And of course, the MCU won't stick with this as canon. They can't. The concept is inherently dumb, and breaks canon. That was the point of the joke - which I think - *you missed.*
@Strangerz64
@Strangerz64 Жыл бұрын
_he does not have the knowledge that it is another Peter Parker/Spider grouping_ ^ Can't know Peter exists period - or gets sucked into 199999. Per Strange and Parker: *They are all coming here because of ME - so make them forget ME.* (Peter Parker) Miguel per NWH is not sucked into 199999 because he *does not know* Peter exists - per No Way Home which *makes no sense.* Remember the only Peter any of them knew in the 1st place was the Peter of their universe. Andrew and Tobey know that 'they' [Peter] is Spiderman, that's what brought them to 199999. "Make them forget....me" Them is ALL the multiverse character. Me - is ALL the Peter Parkers. There is no exception made, in fact, the film is trying to say that the effort to make exceptions by Peter is what caused the spell to go haywire. Hence the solution is to eliminate the exceptions. Film is clear and illogical at the same time. Make *everyone* forget. Parker repeats this twice. Not - everyone in other Universes, or this Universe, or everyone except you and me, which lead back to you and me and MJ until at least I get laid. lol. Nope EVERYONE. The reason that you need to rewrite this in your head - is because it makes no sense, and the MCU can't live with that. Keep trying to explain it though....

Many of us know that feeling well: socially, academically, professionally, etm. Thank you for speaking your truth and for allowing yourself to be vulnerable in front of your audience like this. Spider-Man canon means you lose 2 people, not just 1. You lose a friend due to their own actions. These are the friends who became villains and reflect the bad choices Spider-Man could’ve been. Then he loses an innocent due to the inability of Spider-Man. Spider-Man not able to save his uncle. Tom not saving his aunt. Miles not saving his father. Someone guilty/someone innocent. That’s the tragedy of Spider-Man and why Miles in Beyond could lose both. Or save them all

I actually think the question is of changing ones fate. Not saving 1 person over the many. Miles is pretty convinced he can do both and there's not suppose to be a way to do that. I think it's more a free-will vs determinism thing. Is anything truly possible and what role does destiny play in our lives?

I think my problem with the ending wasn’t that it was a cliffhanger. I knew it was a two part movie so I fully expected it to have some sort of cliffhanger. The problem is that it wasn’t a FULFILLING cliffhanger. Infinity War had a cliffhanger and everyone knew it was two parts, but it ended in a way where the audience still felt like something was accomplished. In terms of ATS, it didn’t really end in a way in which it felt like anything was accomplished. I wished that they’d switched it so you’d gotten Miles’s new dilemma of being stuck in the other universe FIRST, then cut to Gwen, her dad, and the new Spider team. Giving a small interaction between the new team and saying something cliche but heartfelt like, “Let’s go save the multiverse, our way.” (I know that’s bad but I came up with that on the spot so) and then ending. You’d still have a cliffhanger, but it wouldn’t be a super abrupt one.

I imagine the Canon Events were actually made up by the _"Writers"_ of all Spider-People so that Peter Parker can suffer in some way. I believe Miles wasn't accepting that because it was repetitive. It wasn't the way HE wanted to be Spider-Man. He wants to do his own thing and save "one person" and do what he thinks his right. Which is a pretty ballsy thing Spider-Man used to do back then. "Nah... I'mma do my own thing." Is powerful after we see how persecuted he is just for existing. Which reminds me of the controversy we've had for years now... And not just because he's black, it's because people thought he wasn't suffering enough. You can look it up everywhere. Not everyone liked Miles because of the way he was written to be the Prodigy to Peter Parker. The successor where Peter failed to grasp: Individuality and happiness. Spider-Verse is taking a good risk by rewarding us with a new experience and now we're seeing them subtly re-write the same story they've told us for years in one of the most awakening ways possible. Miguel's the perfect iteration of people who can't accept change. Miles is the perfect example of people who can change for the better. Gwen is the perfect storyteller for the people who are *_in the MIDDLE_* of both sides and slowly starts to empathize with Miles by the end of this movie. Ugh, GIVE US BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE ONLY WHEN IT'S *_READY!_* Let's not rush a potential Masterpiece!

This is gonna be a long one. Apologies in advance. No hard feelings 😁Afterall it's these kinda stories and talks that unite us together. I don't know, maybe people forgot that this is leaning more towards the comic realm rather than the typical animation movies we see nowadays. If y'all are ok with seeing the comic bubbles and burst cards popping every now and then in the movie, just maybe it's better not to talk shit when 'to be continued' hits the screen. I don't think I've seen all comics coming out like novels in one go with complete resolution and closure for their stories. It's about miles constantly getting lectured by everyone around him, even by the principal about how to live his life. He really wishes to come clean about his secret to his parents, but struggles to do so, juggling between the two lives. He believes that he won't see his friends again hence wishes to study more so he can figure out about the multiverse, not knowing that there's already a society out there who's doing that, including Gwen. He thinks he is alone and also isn't invited to the spider society firstly, everyone knew about him and kept him more like an excommunicado. Plus the last thing he had was that argument with his parents and that piece of advice from his mom that the little kid will always be loved and to make a stand where others tell he doesn't belong (if you remember it's almost the same in the first movie as well), and he leaves his dimension. Initially he mocks Ohnn and yet later he realizes and tries to comfort and reconcile with Spot, to make him belong as well. Spot suffers the same thing, he made Miles and Miles made him, but all he got in return was humiliation and rejection from the society. Miles then learns more about the spider-verse, feeling betrayed and confused, then makes his stand against all the spider people and tries to go back to his parents to avert the impending tragedy in his own way by not listening to some algorithm. He finally overcomes the fear and reveals his identity to his mom and closes the arc by telling that he followed her advice, and that something bad is coming now that he has nothing to hide. That's the whole point of the movie. On the contrary, he then ends up in a dimension where he doesn't belong and it's up to the ones who are still loyal and friends with him to stand their ground against the others, after all he's done for them. All the while spot feels the same to prove to others that he isn't a joke either and belongs everywhere throughout the multiverse. I would rather see how things work out from this point in an entire different movie than expanding whatever has happened so far into few more minutes just to achieve some sort of resolution and ruining the plot point, hype and cliffhanger achieved. The ones complaining about the ending sorta forgot that Gwen's plot exists. That's why the movie starts from her perspective. We are made to think that Hobie's hitting on her or vice versa, but no. She stands by while others try to stop Miles and lets him go. She takes it up with Miguel afterwards and gets kicked being told she let him go and she doubts the canon events. Afterall Miguel was initially hesitant to bring her in on the first act. After all that quarrel with her dad, she reunites with him and closes that arc before leaving her dimension knowing he's not gonna become a captain. It's equally more of a Gwen's movie too than that of Miles' If anyone has their own thoughts, feel free to pitch in. 🙃

I have a question and it might be stupid but if someone can help me that would be amazing. I didn’t understand how could miles go to another universe where another “him” exists, while in his universe there’s no second Gwen or Jess or Miguel or anyone, so how can he go to a universe that specifically has everything similar to his universe but other people from other universes don’t exist there?
