It has been proven that copper kills more bacteria than chlorine. But one little won’t do the trick. You need at least a ground rod to actually work for the size of a pool. I use 12 1/2 fitting in a container with holes. My ph level is always good, and never had to shock my hot tub.

So far so good I haven’t had any LG
@THOTHvii
@THOTHvii 11 ай бұрын
So I actually started using copper. My pool is almost 25k gallons and in the AZ sun nearly all day so this time of year is a nuisance for algae blooms. I saw other videos and started my own experiment. I had three types of raw copper which should be the same grade as pipe. I had screen so I cut 2 sections that were about 3"x5" and its thin screen so water can still pass through it. I placed it in the strainer 2 days before my pool guy was coming and lo and behold the algae is and has been gone since and that has been almost 2 weeks. I am currently still watching videos to make sure of when to remove copper because it can break down too much and start turning stuff green but from what I read and understand that will happen if your levels are going unchecked. But, now I will pull out the copper screen and watch for the spots again and just add it back when/if they come. The pool guy was surprised at the levels and no algae considering chlorine was only at 1 and there were huge blooms when he left the week before... So I would attest that it does kill it and pretty quickly. But I will add to do some research and be mindful of leaving copper, especially once it starts the degrading process. My plan is IF the screen breaks down too fast I can use pipe. If that's too much I have copper bullion that's far more dense, but I feel it does work...

@@THOTHvii Excellent information totally appreciate that the copper will collect a green film on it which I guess is it breaking down? Good to hear that you got rid of your LG thank you for watching and commenting.
@THOTHvii
@THOTHvii 11 ай бұрын
@@TomLeeman Yes, and it will break down further. From what I am seeing that is really the only time it can become harmful to skin(like dying it) is when it breaks down too far and there is nothing for the copper ions to cling to. Once it gets far past the "patina" state I would change the copper. But I have seen ionizer anodes that are nearly gone and no skin or hair is being dyed. Thank you for sharing as well.

Her is another item that will save you money, a lot of money. NEVER use the inline Chlorine feeders that are plumbed into you pool system. They use at least twice the chlorine necessary even on their lowest settings. They eat chlorine and actually over chlorinate your pool. Get a $10 floating chlorine dispenser on one of those discounts websites...too expensive in retail stores. I used to put 2 3" tablets every 2-3 days in my inline auto feeder and the chlorine was always high. Now with the floating unit I put 2 tablets in every 2+ weeks and the Chlorine level is perfect. Now you can easily calculate the savings. With the price gouging prices of Chlorine now that is a huge savings. I have been doing this for the last 9-10 years and now many of my neighbors are doing the same thing.

This is a bad idea for salt water and chlorinated pools. Copper is dissolved by chlorine and those metal particles will stain and destroy most pool surfaces over time, additionally adding copper to the water will damage the elements in a salt water cell.

Chlorine is actually reacting with the copper and etching away at ions. Sodium Bicarbonate also has a leeching effect on metals. In the food industry you cannot hook up copper to a CO² carbonation system... makes it non potable. Not a complete fail. Pennies are mostly iron with a slight copper coating. Once the two metals start to etch away... The reaction becomes swifter.
