Ridiculous take. Of course his friend has a right to know what happened to him, even more so than Danny's family did if anything, for the simple reason that not only were they close friends for many years preceeding the incident, but also Danny could easily have killed his friend that night during his psychotic episode or whatever it was. Not to mention all the other people that Danny could have potentially harmed during his six month 'black-out'. No, there's all sorts of perfectly sensible and justifiable reasons why people like his friend had a perfect right to find out what the hell had happened to him!
@sonjasun622711 ай бұрын
Yes, from the beginning, where he says it's "most significant event of his entire life" uhh dude, it sounds like it all happened to your friend, not you. Then pressuring him to talk about what has probably been absolute horror, how he isnt the same old Danny, not smiling blah blah. Dude, that's called trauma, and you can't even respect your friend enough to understand him. To the point of suggesting he's faking it or hiding some horrible things he has done. Yuck.

Yeah, i think what op was seeing as his buddy remembering more than he was letting on was more Danny trying to wade through flashes of memory and piece together things for himself. Mental illness can already wreck havoc on the memory, delusional disorders, even when properly treated can create false memories. Not wanting to talk when you are trying to figure things out and you may be afraid of what you may have done makes sense to me. But I'm the type of guy that has to wrap my head around something before I'm willing to talk about it.

Story one: my friend lost six months of his life and he was clearly traumatized by that knowledge but let me make it all about *me* and how it made *me* feel. Eesh. A little harsh... put yourself in the friends shoes, suddenly he loses his mind, disappears, returns as shadow of his former himself and refuses to acknowledge anything at all. They were good friends, naturally the guy is confused and needing answers or some sort of closure after worrying and thinking the worst for half a year. It's not self-centered, he is just attempting to make sense and accept the loss of his good friend. He is a victim in this as well.

@@ericbumbles4145it's a pointless thing to even say that given we wouldn't know exactly how we'd act in situations like that unless we're in one, but I've had a lot of friendships come and go with no closure. If my friend didn't want to talk about something that was clearly bothering them and they really didn't want to talk about it, I wouldn't overstep my boundaries. My need for closure is less important than my friend's wellbeing. Being a victim doesn't mean you can behave however you want without consequence, and if it was weighing on his mind that heavily, he should have gone to a therapist. There have been documented cases of people going missing with zero memory, and continually pressing and pushing his friend for answers when he most likely didn't have any only caused him distress.

He wasn't intending on hurting anybody, he just lost his mind. I visited in the hospital a few weeks after and I knew he wasn't the same man. The drugs they gave him stripped him of his personality. A silly example is when I walked to the nearest shop with him and a staff member to buy some things, he was a massive car nerd, bigger than me, and his dream car that he'd always bang on about in his drug fueled states was the Toyota Supra. On that walk a beautiful red modified Supra drove past and when I pointed it out he completely dismissed it, looked at the floor and wouldn't even look at something he spent years fantasizing about. Poor guy was nothing but a husk after those drugs but it was honestly for the better. Now the guy lives in a beautiful place and is completely clean.

So did he ever somewhat come out of it then? If he got clean and his life got better? Sorry trying to better understand because it's an interesting situation.

Dude got possessed in the 1st story. Also. Unless Op was with Danny the whole day, without leaving his side for 1 minute, he don't know what Danny had or hadn't taken. I get irritated when people say stuff like that.. They know for sure what the person did or didn't, would or wouldn't do, with out rationality of the fact that it's impossible for them to know those things if they weren't with that person every moment of that whole day. To me it sounds like Danny took something or done something to open himself up to cause that episode.

That OP in the first story is such a selfish jerk. If someone you know went through trauma trying to force them to relive it for your own closure is incredibly cruel. I went through some pretty bad trauma a number of years ago. My friends left me alone and were just supportive, I knew that if I wanted to talk about it they were there for me 100% but wouldn't pry. My mother on the other hand kept pushing and pushing and wouldn't let up. It led to a lot of fights and me no longer trusting her with any sensitive information whatsoever. If you and a friend went through something together and you're dealing with your own issues then GO TO THERAPY. It's not up to your already traumatized friend to make you feel better.

The guy from the first story seems like a bit of an ass tbh. It’s fair if the guy didn’t want to talk about it. He seems like why they stopped talking more.

Danny sounds like he had a psychotic episode. They can come from nowhere and totally change a person. I definitely understand the friend wanting closure (after all it was a traumatizing experience), but the priority should be getting Danny help. Instead of pushing him to try and explain what happened, they should support him where he is now and gently encourage him to see a mental health professional. Maybe Danny will spill a big story to a professional, but never his friend. It shouldn’t really matter.

Stories of people who were followed but managed to escape unscathed (at last not physically) always make me smile, but I can't help but think about those who were in a similar predicament but did not survive to tell us about their “close call with danger” experiences. I hope that a lot of people, particularly risk-taking teenagers and young adults, will hear those experiences and take care to avoid such circumstances in the future.
@zachmorgan6982 Жыл бұрын
Man that first story is unlike anything I've ever heard. And I must say as a gut feeling and just my knowledge of mental health I doubt seriously he doesn't remember anything. I've never heard of someone having amnesia for 6 months while also being alone and not using their credit card. H3 HAS to remember at least bits and pieces...especially with zero brain trauma. Idk but it just doesn't sound right. I mean if he eventually walked out of the woods someone would have eventually stumbled upon him. And for him to have taken care of himself with showers and brushing his teeth, this tells me he was in society with some capacity therefore someone HAD to have seen him and interacted with him. That would make them a witness and even with just a basic, "I saw him coming out of a convenience store" comment even that small detail would tell us alot. Idk, there are just so many possibilities of what he COULD have done in a 6 month period that it's impossible to even weave a narrative together that isn't all based on speculation. He could have done something horrible since he was very violent initially, or he could have had something very bad happen to him. Either way it would explain why he doesn't wanna talk about it at all IF he does have some memories of what happened. But wow....crazy story. Literally INSANE
@catcactus1234 Жыл бұрын
There are actually a few cases similar to his. There’s a popular Missing 411 case about a guy who went hiking in the woods and disappeared for nearly a year. He was presumed dead, but he showed up one day at his parent’s house completely fine. He looked to be in decent health, but he couldn’t remember that period of time at all. Psychologists call it a fugue state.

I’ve had trouble on the train before and the BT police are great if you text them. However telling the person to f*** off loudly and aggressively usually does the trick with train pests. Ps I travel from Glasgow on the late train often x
