@iulia.bianca.b3 жыл бұрын
@@IskanderKhan Hate to break it to you, but those were all tactics. He 'love bombed' them and made them feel accepted. He preyed on minorities, as they felt isolated and discriminated against. That's how he brainwashed them and had power over them. That's a smart man, that used his intelligence for vile things. He fooled them, and lots more people watching from the outside, just like you. That's the same thing missionaries and religious leaders did to the slaves and natives they subdued. Used religion to "tame" them, and it still holds up to this day unfortunately. Brainwashing is downright disgusting. None of those who died deserved their freedom taken away in such a deceptive manner.

Honestly I didn’t realize I was in a cult until recently this year, which makes this a bit more scary. I was probably around 7, my deadbeat of a dad left my pregnant mom with 3 kids and we were really struggling financially. We were raised Roman Catholic, so we attended a regular Catholic Church every Sunday per usual. I guess this wasn’t doing it for my mom, we were in a really bad place and she wasn’t working due to paternal leave so by word of mouth, she found a “different” and “better” church. It was Catholic based, but don’t ask what it’s called or what exactly they preached because they all spoke Spanish and I was still an ignorant kid who didn’t care about what the adults were doing. This “church” took place in the back of an old, run down candle shop. My family would enter through the back of an ugly parking lot, through a small door and had to take our shoes off. We were met with a gentlemen in a wheelchair with a spray bottle filled with rubbing alcohol who would spray our hands and order us the deeply inhale before entering to “eradicate all the demons”. It smelled horrible, made me feel dizzy but that’s what we had to do. Although children were allowed to go inside the “church” they weren’t allowed to actually attend in mass. So, anyone 12 and younger were forced to wait in the near pitch black front area of the candle shop. Mass would take anywhere from 1-3 hours, and I just remember being so bored the entire time. From what I remember there were 3 main member of the “church”. The man in the wheelchair like I mentioned, a skinny women dressed like the Virgin Mary, and the Priest, his name was Lazaro. I only remember because his name would be chanted or mentioned all the time even when us kids weren’t present in the room. There was also a dress code, but only for the women- who made up most of the attendants in the church. They all had to wear white dresses that were loose, with a white bandanna wrapped around their head, all in the name of “purity”. This is all I remember, the rest will be from the perspective of my older sister who was old enough to attend and understood the teachings...: The priest, Lazaro, believed to be a “healer” he could remove impurities and negativity just by touching you, so he was basically treated as a god. Apparently he had a thing for my mom, would “heal” her by rubbing his hands everywhere on her- all in the name of god. Lazaro hated my sister, she was a goth, and refused to put on the “dress code”, Lazaro would repeatedly call out my sister during mass as a bad model, exercising his disgust towards today’s youth and going off tangents on how ungodly they were. Eventually he convinced my mom to burn all her black clothing because they were “demonizing” her child. Of course my sister was pissed, there were expensive band t shirts in there. The nail in the coffin though, was when they performed an “exorcism” on my sister. Every member surrounded her, held her down, and started chanting things she couldn’t even translate. And Lazaro, “healed” her by touching various areas of her body. That’s when she snapped, and left the building, I couldn’t tell you how it was from my perspective because I was just locked inside a room with nothing to do at the time. I think we only attended this “church” for only a year and we stopped going altogether. Every meeting there would be less and less people, my mom being the one of the most loyal of followers, so it was a bit of a shock when we just stopped going. My sister and I theorized with how inappropriate the priest was acting towards all the women, that he only used this “religion” as a way to take advantage of poor, and desperate women on hard times. Unfortunately my mom fell for it, believed every word this “healer of god” spouted and let herself be taken advantage. Even now, when I mention the church we used to go to my mom would deny it, and say she has no idea what I’m talking about, I just drop it. Like I said, it wasn’t until recently that we found out this was a cult, mostly because these were buried memories we would rather forget. But when retelling all these stories to my in laws they just looked at each other and said, “you were in a cult!” It seems to fit. Hearing back on this I wish I could have done something, I wish I was more aware of how bizarre everything was but, I was just a child who could have easily been groomed by some sexual predator who claimed to have godly powers. I’m glad we got out of that before anything else happened, unfortunately it was all at my mothers expense

Jo Lee yeah we were all fine after, my mom got lots of help from her friends and other family members after this whole event. @@iScAre1 I hate to say it, but there probably was more. it wouldn't surprise me if there was a lot of abuse and they relied on the shame of members to keep quiet. heck, abusers outside of cults rely on shame to keep their victims quiet. I'm sorry you all went through this, but you're very strong
