In this video, I take my pet baby turtles out of their tank and let them go at the new ponds. They should get accustomed to eating from me and feed with the rest of the turtles. Thanks for watching!!

For the ducks, give them some way to shelter on the ponds. Get some cattails growing, or even some water loving trees and shrubs like willow that you can plant on the shoreline to give them cover.

Use nature’s natural enemies to hawks which is crows!!! Hawks dislike crows very much! Crows will protect wild birds, and little animals. Get a flock of crows by feeding them peanuts and sunflower seeds unsalted. I’ve lived with crows and hawks my whole life and have witnessed many times the crows saving robins and blue jays from the hawks. Falcons are smaller and crows dislike them as well! Good luck with this avenue. I’ve yet to make friends with a crow in my area because they are very shy but they are around the area always! :)
@unpunlievable
@unpunlievable 2 жыл бұрын
Anecdotal, but I have chickens in town and never have a problem with hawks or anything, there's a huge crow population in the area which I think helps. Especially since I think they pick up uneaten scraps and so feel inclined to drive other birds away to reduce their competition. I've seen a hawk around twice in the last year and a half I've had them but no attacks and both times the hawk did not stay long

ravens in my area are invasive and they have killed off the Desert tortoise population. they prefer baby tortoise Sometimes fake owls work to keep them away apparently they’re ancient enemies. But generally we just shoot at them and they stay away from an area because they remember. They even know to fly high enough to stay away from Bird shot.

Low cover near the bank like a bush or two or even a rough three sided little shelter could help the ducks have somewhere safe from aerial attacks or even just the sun on a hot day. Sometimes attracting/ encouraging the presence of crows and jays to the area also can help- they hate hawks and will alert and chase them away. Other than that it's just the ducks' wits vs. the hawk's speed. Thankfully they seem like a sharp crew

Right now, the pond is acting like a big buffet for all predators. All of the wildlife in the pond will benefit from more organic and non-organic cover. Bushes, trees, water plants, rocks etc. You need to spend a few episodes worth, dedicated to populating the edges and middle of the ponds with stuff. So the wildlife has places to hide.

Idk if you could tame wild adult hawks, but it would be interresting to try. As for leaving food outside, it's a really bad idea, as to satisfye the hawk, you would have to leave meat. That would attract dozens of other predators and other hawks too. The ducks would be even more in danger

From my experience, domestic Geese can be really helpful when it comes to driving hawks and other predators away. But most importantly in the ducks case the top priority is getting some form of coverage for them, either some form of vegetation or driftwood (floating or alongside the shores) or some structure, like a wooden pier where the ducks can hide themselves and eventually their ducklings, hawks will eventually be turned away if their prey becomes too difficult to catch there.

You could put a dock in the alligator gar pond. Most wooden and metal docks allow fish to freely swim under it and it would get you right next to them. I used to hand feed bluegill off of my dock growing up. The bluegill even learned that footsteps on the dock meant food and they would eagerly swarm to get fed. Every year we would have a big bass just living under the dock too. It gives them a nice shaded shelter.

you need a duck box for your ducks. Kinda works like a dog house, allows the ducks to get out of the elements and provides security for the ducks. Will also aide in your ducks laying eggs. Also make sure to throw some hay inside and i suggest at least one per pond. Your bluegill and all your baby fish will appreciate some underwater structure to hide while they are in the fry stage. A Christmas tree tied to a cement block works pretty good.

to help the ducks stay safe from hawks, i think you gotta get some more shrubs, trees, reeds/cattails etc, or structure set up around the pond for the ducks to hide in.

As a kid, we used cane poles a lot. Pretty sure they were bamboo. Should be no problem finding some...Your gar are big enough that they could do serious damage to your fingers and hand.

You could always try a scarecrow to see if that works. Also I agree that coastal plain willow will do well as well as buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentalis) with providing hiding spots for both fish and ducks. I also think you should plant pond cypress (Taxodium ascendens) and bald cypress (Taxodium distichum) both of these trees are fast growing and can be planted either right on the edge of the water if young trees but if you get older trees you can plant them right in the water and they will thrive growing up to 100’ or more and 4’ in diameter great trees. If you wanna get crazy with it you could plant some more understory trees that like water like loblolly bay, sweetbay, and swamp bay. Many tupelo species will also do well planted near water along with red maples and red cedar (a little dried but still wet). Hope this was informative and you plant some of these trees at the ponds. Also maybe add some irises and pickerelweed for cover if you want small plants.

You've moved all your animals into a natural setting, let nature take its course. I agree that cattails, reeds and willows need to be added so the ducks can have some cover. More vegetation all around would develop a more diverse and healthy biome.
