I'm a bass player and singer-people don't realize how difficult it is to play a syncopation on the bass and sing at the same time...Mark King is a master of this.

This song has everything come together. Insightful lyrics, tight harmonies, impeccable melodies, and killer rhythm. Qualities conspicuously lacking from a LOT of today's tunes. Level 42's "Something About You" is an outstanding tune from the 80s and beyond. Whenever I hear this, I am assured that 1986 will never be forgotten.

This song is timeless. Made in the 80s, but doesn't sound "too" 80s. If it was new, playing on the radio, it would still be a hit. 😍

I absolutely love this song. I think this is truely what music was all about. I was born in the tale end of the 70's grew up in the 80's and 90's. If I was stranded on a deserted island, with one decade of music to choose for eternity to listen to I WOULD BE THE 80'S EVERYDAY OF THE WEEK, AND TWICE ON SUNDAYS.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this song. I am 42 now and remember this song when it came out in 1986 when I was 18. I remember dancing to it in highschool dances. Mark King really helped this band to be great. His "slap bass" guitar technique was so unique and cool. This song and "Lessons in Love" are two standouts for this group. Morganroussel, thanks for the post!

Absolutely one of the most perfect and beautiful songs. It's all in the chemistry and delivery. The lyrics are great and the falsetto is hypnotic and the layers of the chorus are addictive. BTW, I was 7 when this came out and appreciate REAL music.

I wish I would have bought Level 42's albums in the 80s. I had heard this song on the radio when I was in college in 1986, but I really didn't know anything about Level 42. Watching all their videos on KZbin I now realize what an amazing bass player Mark King is. He is one of the best slap bass players on the planet. :)

Queria muito encontrar o vídeo clipe original em que o todos estão no trem e também em uma casa com cenas externas muito boas. Vi algumas vezes aqui e no VH1. Ele é muito bom, sem falar na música que é show. Não vivi essa época, apenas nasci, mas não me limito ao conhecimento. Acho que a mistura da banda com o jazz é ótima!!

Yes, it does. If you like this song, just FYI, there's a video on iTunes of Level 42 Live from 2010 that has kind of a jazz-pop sound. When you've performed the same song a thousand times, you get bored and want to change it up a bit. So, they added some brass and boosted the bass-line (to where it always should've been, imho 😆) It sounds like something Chicago might have recorded :O) but it's still very recognizable as this song. I think they've done a very good job of making it just different enough to be interesting, but still very listenable.
