huh, i've been using scryfall the exact same way in the past, just oracle texts etc. but "otag" seems really neat!

It's nice but you need to be aware those tags are applied by the community, so you have stuff slipping through at times. For example "Keep Safe" was not tagged as a counterspell until like a month or so ago.

Thanks for the explanations. When building a deck I usually go for: F:edh (legality) Id:mardu (color identity) Order:edhrec (sort) Function: (removal/ramp/draw/etc) T: (type) O: (for more specific searches such as (o:flash or t:instant)) But I did not know how to find new functions/otags, so that was really helpful, thanks.

you can also filter by date (and is:firstprint so you don't get a bunch of reprints) when updating your deck it is really good for finding cards that were released in the past couple of years I personally use it for updating my cube since I don't get a lot of time to play with it so the updates happen pretty infrequently i assume you already know but it wasn't in the video and is a pretty useful feature

Oh yeah I use that a lot! Also if you just want to see new upgrades from the latest set, you can add whatever criteria you want plus is:firstprint and then either search by the sets you're looking for or just sort the results by release date, that's something I also do all the time

The scryfall tags system is great I'm making a berserk themed deck so I've been using the art tags to find cards that fit the theme like cards with an eclipse in the art

As a custom card creator, the art tags are pretty nice for finding good mtg art that goes with the custom card I’m designing. In particular, I made a Blue Black card named Finding Fingers, and Scryfall made it really easy to find a Blue Black card that featured hands.

The main thing I would add is if you use the advanced search, you can look at the text of the search to then manually type it when you want similar things in the future. By far the easiest to way to learn what each option is!

You can automatically filter out cards that don't exist in paper or in magic online underneath the games filter in the advance search!

game:paper format:paper helps narrow it down for commander. Additionally, you can also go down the regular expression, or regex for short,, rabbit hole for even more power

I have an idea for an app (i dont want/have time to develop it, but want it developed) The app lets you register, take a quis (about commander: im ok/not ok with staks, poison, counter magic... Like check lists, + specific card banings. Then you upload you deck lists or take them form moxfield. Once you are on the LGS just press *Start a game* the 4 plqyers join with the decks and the app automatically tells you "hey someone youre playing with doesn't like poison/mill/fast mana/LD" you could try other deck or talk it out (this based on your deck list)

Note than scryfall tags are added by the community, which means: 1. There isn't a tag available for everything. For instance "protection" seems obvious but isn't an existing tag. 2. Not every card that should match a given tag has been tagged. Usually most will but be aware you might be missing out on some cards if you only search by tags. That's truer for newer and for less popular cards. Also be aware that even without using tags, you can combine keywords in a single query, using parenthesis and "or", or the regular expression syntax. For instance (o:exile or o:destroy) o:/exile|destroy/

I also tried making a deck with all kinds of lords, and instead of doing each type individually, I tried to learn regex XD Probably took about as much time, because it took me quite a while to work out how best to write "o:/\b(other|all)\b(.)*\b(have|get(s)?)\b/", which still isn't perfect. The tags definitely make things *much* easier, even if they do miss things on very rare occasion, as others have mentioned.

I always desired a way to eliminate options after a search. For example I put in a search, get 80 results but are looking for the best 20, I can then start to tag or save the best ones, eliminate the worst and narrow it down. That would be cool.

I live off scryfall tagger. At this point scryfall is a shortcut search on my fire fox and I type in "Otag:[blank] o:"[some text" order:edhrec" whenever I get a deck idea.
