I am 69. When I was in school, we had one type 1 diabetic. She was beautiful, popular, and a bit devilish, but out sick a lot. My mother explained it to me that she was born with this and children with diabetes did not live long.(I don't remember a distinction because there were no other known diabetics) I did not stay in touch after graduation, got married and moved away. By the time we had a class reunion, she was listed as deceased 😢.
