CORRECTION: That is not Mac Boucher. I mistakenly thought that was him after I went on his videography website and saw that picture on the Tukker section. I thought Tukker was a solo artist and stupidly thought that for some reason Mac was in the music video for a Tukker song eventhough he works behind the camera. Sorry for any inconveniences.

Recently, this year, I found myself suddenly obsessed with c-not only her music but also her personality, her take on the world, and her whole life story. Listening to her speak, and watching documentaries like this, I came to feel such a strong empathic connection with her I would sometimes find myself in tears. I couldn't understand why she had such a powerful influence over my emotions. Later this year, I came to learn I was on the spectrum and was delighted when Grimes recently shared her own diagnosis. It suddenly made so much sense to me: why I had this strong empathic response to her. I identify so much with her life struggles and self-overcoming; I absolutely love her music and way of being in the world; and it brings me such joy to see what she has accomplished with her life. ♡ ♡ ♡

Well people are different growing up. A lot of edgey angsty teens were really rude to people due to insecurities and anxieties. Also looking at her old interviews she was less bubbly like she is now. She is happier now due to her success but when she was younger and lack accomplishments and recognition it could create a very bitter and pity attitude. Many people are pretty bitter and angry growing up as an angsty teen but once they grew up and have their own independence and success they usually becomes happier.

Truth be told she stated she jumped and fought the guys who bullied her. I don't think she is actually a victim. She also said she hang out with people who use and abuse drugs in high school. Those types of people aren't nessessary the types to be bullied. Somewhere else she also states her and her friend in high school graffiti and tag just for fun. Everyone in life has been bullied one way or an other. Doesn't nessessary mean they are victims themselves. They just see themselves as victims because they were hurt.

It's a sad irony when you find out what your idols actually value at the end of the day, when they spend so much time Trying to emulate a specific image to gain a following. People used to call it selling out..... But everyone's already sold out. So what even is it now?

Yeah, everyone always talks about her relationship with Musk, a lot of people even consider her "his wife"? Guys, srsly, who gives a flying fuck about Musk, she's the main attraction - she's a genius polymath with artistic vision, a good person and a powerful icon, for fuck's sake. She's her own person. Musk is a temporary detail.

Amazing documentary! I'm such a huge fan of Grimes. and love to digest anything about her! She's so fascinating to me and so very unique. There was so much new information covered here and images I'd not seen before; especially regarding her childhood/teen years. As much as I hate how terrible it sounds like she was treated at her school and all the sad events in her life; I love knowing how many obstacles she's overcome and how everything shaped her into the queen she is now. Her story is such an inspiration. Great job, and thank you for putting this together!

I've only known about Grimes for a short amount of time, but she has had a huge impact on me. Everything about her fascinates me and learning more about her childhood and early life nearly brought me to tears. I don't want to be one of those people who thinks they are exactly like someone else, but I did relate to a few things here, especially how she was bullied at school. I always feel there's something about a person who has been through that kind of thing; a determination to succeed coupled with inner turmoil. I absolutely adore this human for so many reasons. She has awakened my own creativity after nearly four years of writer's block. I'm writing music again and enjoying art and style because Grimes has put that spark back in me.

to all the folks saying she's 'weird, introvert, crazy' - please check if you're NEURODIVERSE (that could span from anything from ADHD to autistic, or both - which I think she herself is). you'll get many answers and finally find your people, who are just like you even if you always felt you were alone in this.
@Gomba13
@Gomba13 3 жыл бұрын
I do have the impression she has major focus issues, which is a double edged sword. She really just seems like a neurodiverse person. Not crazy, not weird, just with an overload of neural connections, an overproductive brain that needs a lot of stimulation. I do have to disagree with you on the "just like you" bit, though. Every person is an individual, no one can ever be just like you. Maybe you meant just as neurodiverse as you, but that's not the same as just like you. I am a high functioning autie and I have ADHD, and I know a lot of people who have these "conditions," and the only way we are alike is that we all understand that we are not alike and are totally fine with each other's differences, even though we also have a lot in common, like too many tabs open in our brains. Grimes is fortunate to have been blessed with a childhood environment where she was allowed to be herself and no one cared whether she is normal or not. She was allowed to find her place, unlike most neurodiverse people who are constantly pressured to be "normal." She is sort of an example of the potential neurodiverse people have if they are allowed to just be who they are rather than being treated as sick.
@roswynn5484
@roswynn5484 3 жыл бұрын
@@Gomba13 I too think she's neurodivergent, although I don't think she's ever been diagnosed in her life and doesn't care about that. I disagree with your evaluation of her childhood environment. Sure, she had money, and her dad read her LotR when she was little, but then she started having to do ballet and having to deal with all that strictness, then she started being bullied because of her neurodivergence/"weirdness", she tried to escape into drugs, she saw friends prostitute themselves, she was raped... I mean, she did eventually find her path, for sure, but it's not like it was easy for her, she was constantly pressured to be normal, just like every other neurodivergent (and most children and teens) - by her parents, by her teachers, by her peers at school... I do totally agree with your final statement - neurodiverse people can have a big potential, just b/c we see things so differently than most people, generally speaking, and most of all, we should just be allowed to be who we are rather than being treated as "weird" and/or having an illness. That's doubly true for people on the autism spectrum, with learning disorders, ADHD, even psychosis, who can all function very well with the right support and most of all without ignorant people, even those with ultimately good intentions, trying to "cure" them. Personally I suffer from anxiety and bipolar disorder and take meds to keep them at bay because they've only made me suffer, and I'm grateful to the doctors who helped me and, most likely, really saved my life. I function almost as well as neurotypical folk thanks to my treatment. So in my particular case I'm glad my problems are been seen as the actual illness they are and being tended to, and I think medicine can do a lot for people with actually harmful pathologies. Otoh I've never been diagnosed as autistic, adhd, anything of the sort, but judging from my interests, personality and habits, I don't really think I'm completely neurotypical, and I've been bullied and considered "weird" all my life (being bi and not really conventionally attractive didn't really help). Then again maybe I'm neurotypical? I can't really know... I would gladly have done without the alienation and scorn though, I can tell you that. Maybe I'd be a happier, more fulfilled woman.

Very nicely complied and edited! To add, while living in Montreal in her cheap, unheated apartment, she woke up one morning with frostbite in her toes and had to thaw them out in warm water. I think that she is an icon of how a super intelligent weird kid who was bullied in school can overcome their challenges by finding an area to excell in. She is in someways a role model for nuerovarient kids, and also a cautionary tale about the need for self-care and a healthier lifestyle. From somone who has permanent hearing damage due to playing her Walkman so loud in school hallways to blot out the insults, living dangerously, wearing thrift clothes, dumpster diving, and self-harming, to become financially sound and partner to the worlds richest man is a tribute to her spirit, intelligence, talent, creativity and resourcefulness.
