In North Dakota, I drove north to Manitoba. At the Canadian border I was told to pull over. I went inside and the immigration official asked me why I was coming to Canada. I told her I'd always wanted to see Manitoba. She didn't believe me.

This is hilarious, and actually honours us Canadians by being funny in a Canadian manner, i.e. making fun of our best features: the beautiful open spaces, the cold winter nights which drive us to "snuggle" with each other, miles of unspoiled nature in which you can see for miles, rich farmlands, oceans of wheat and canola... nothing makes me laugh more than a well written joke about Canada, the land of amazing comedians. The South Park Canada references are hysterical, especially the "Canadian Alphabet".

As someone that has bussed from Windsor Ontario to Jasper Alberta on a round trip; I can confirm this is actually what it is like to drive across Canada if you do not leave the TCH route. Biggest saving grace for driving through the Prairies was we did it at night so we reached the dunes by daylight and there was something to look at. We lucked out that night and there were thunderstorms all around us all night and you could see the flashes of lightning all around us for hundreds of km's and it was all heat lightning that night so there was no limit to the visibility rain would have caused.

I used to take the bus from Toronto to Thunder Bay quite often; about 20-22 hours with meal stops. Yep, it's not too exciting. You start wishing for some huge angry waves from Lake Superior to descend on the coastal highway just for some spike of adrenaline.

That's the mark of a great comedian. He toured Canada and used the local material to make jokes for the local audience. I see most US comedians performing in Canada by delivering US jokes.
@katherined800 Жыл бұрын
I can't think of an American comedian or any tv or movie writers who demonstrate any understanding of Canadians. It's the usual facile tropes about us being nice people and usually an accent that sounds like a developmentally delayed Lawrence Welk. I appreciate the fact that Lewis Black actually found his way here and did his own research.

As a born and bred Winnipegger, I'm now 38 and have felt -54 with the windchill, the coldest weather I've ever experienced. The shock of Americans when they think they experience winters and then come up here for the real deal....even those from Ontario need to come to Manitoba for a real winter. It's such a bad deal, cold and shitty for 5 months, at least our summers are nice.
@ideitbawxproductions1880 Жыл бұрын
Winter in Hamilton, Ontario is a joke. We usually get one, maybe 2 weeks of snow, and the rest of the winter is like late fall or early spring. It'd be interesting to experience a real winter, at least once. Though I'd probably regret it about a week in lol
