When I was a kid many years ago, growing up in rural New England, I became an apple thief. It used to be a popular pastime among young people back then. We would go out in an orchard and cllmb trees and have our fill of fresh delicious apples that belonged to the farmer and not us. Unfortunately for us, there was often a herd of dairy cows in the field and occasionally a bull was among them. I spent many hours trapped in a tree eating apples and throwing them at the bull wishing he would go away. You would think the hard part was getting to the tree without the bull catching you.But actually, I had the element of surprise and not being full of apples on my way across the field to the tree. The tricky part was getting back to the safe side of the fence with a belly full of apples and a bull hot on my heels. I would now like to think the bull enjoyed himself. Thanks for reminding me of the running of the bulls and good old E. Hemingway, Lewis.

I also learned about bull "sports" from Hemingway. One plus to learning from books like that is we were explicitly told they were works of fiction. We could go on to do the research about topics that interested us, but we didn't expect to know the "truth" easily.

One word describes the cause of these recent horrible wars. Religion. Take away this issue and the world would be at peace. Tell the factions here to quit praying to their gods. Set a bowl of chili down between them and have them and say this is your God. No other choice. They can argue about adding cheese or even crackers, but nothing else.

So I am a hard leftie, somewhere between Bernie (my fav) and AOC. I also have SOME what used to be conservative values, like paying the bills and meeting financial obligations. As opposed to threatening to cut off the paychecks of military personnel and tank the credit of the country for perceived political advantage. Like not giving away the money to pay the bills to the richest of the rich for political advantage. Like having an ef'g platform of legislative objectives instead of having no platform at all except the kind of chaos which the right accuses the left of. Which allows every MAGA moron to have their own personal platform and ends up with a party that can't decide on a speaker of the house because nobody can agree on what they stand for. If THAT is conservative, then....glad to meet you, I am the King of the fucking Universe.

@@timzibob And Honestly I .... It still baffles me that someone who is impoverished and marginalized can end up conservative. We just get... yanked around and if you hit those strings right in someone's heart you can twist them into their own worst enemy. I've been effectively in poverty the majority of my life. Never got to go to college to begin with, but if I had and had the same luck and roadblocks I've had, student loan debt would have put me on the street. For a long time the GOP has had at least the illusion of a united front compared to the fractious and divided left, but in recent times, especially with these far right nutjobs and TFG MAGA idiots... god. What have we become as a nation? Or were we always this rotten and broken, but with the increasingly brazen behavior of our leaders just dragging that darkness into the light? I'll tell you what I want. The utter destruction of the current Health Insurance system, a move to nationalize Big Pharma, which would hopefully also lead to dedicated universal health care. I want there to be Unions to be able to collectively bargain for works in EVERY industry. I want everyone to have the ability to live freely and safely. To have a roof over their heads, and food in every pot. I want the American Dream we were promised, not this Nightmare. I recognize that we're stuck with Capitalism, or at least a little while longer. But if we are, just... level the fucking playing field, okay? Stop climbing the ladder and pulling it up from under you while cackling like a fucking vaudeville villain about how everyone who isn't you gets to be broke now. That's one of the most insulting parts. It's not even about how rich they can get, but also about everyone that isn't in their special upper class is poor and getting poorer. This fucking cruelty and sick amusement. I'd like to take them down Every peg. I guess that makes me a leftie.
