Hey Bandrew, I was the voice submission about OBS/Analog limiters. Thanks for your answers/feedback!. I thought I put my name in but I didn't. Oops! It's Eddie, if that at all mattered to you. The discussion about analog/digital limiters was pretty cool to me. I had a feeling that there was no cheap way to get an analog limiter but it kinda surprised me that getting that set up was as expensive as it is. Digital limiters should suffice for my applications which is mostly just discord VCs. I'm glad you were honest about the audio feedback. I had literally just started processing and I'm thinking to myself "man this does *not* sound how I want it to, but not really sure what to roll back/bump up." Could be that my hearing is just awful but having a better tuned ear to guide me in the right direction really helps. I knew that I'd probably get your feedback months in the future and be listening to the recording again and be like "why did I mess up the processing this badly," but hey I'd rather have asked for feedback and humiliated myself to get better audio rather than just live with bad audio. I've rolled back the gain a bunch so that I'm not distorting the audio like crazy. I was way too concerned about not being heard because before I upgraded to a proper audio set up I had a lot of complaints about not being heard loudly enough over VC. I'll go ahead and lighten up the noise suppression, especially now that I've looked back on your old videos about high pass filter setups and having the high pass filter makes it so that the OBS noise suppression doesn't have to work nearly as hard. For some reason the default noise suppression value in OBS is so dang high... wish the default was a little more subtle. Thanks again and sorry for the lengthy reply! Tried to keep it concise as best I can.
@NalinAirheart2 жыл бұрын
You've probably experimented with this already, but I highly recommend trying out the high quality built-in noise suppression (RNNoise, no settings but it "learns" to remove noise) at the beginning of your filter chain, the RTX equivalent, or maybe the version of iZotope RX Elements that's on sale currently. Personally not a big fan of Speex (which defaults to -30 dB), but there are many alternatives. For your gain concerns - I found that the free version of Youlean Loudness Meter has been a handy program to check levels for both loudness and clipping. You can even place it after an effect as a VST to make sure it's not pushing the digital signal to clipping. Assuming you've already set your interface to have headroom it should be fine (and Bandrew has a video on that too). If you're routing audio from OBS into your VC then you can always add a bit of gain there. Most have their own processing though for automatic gain and noise reduction.
@ThatLazyyGuy2 жыл бұрын
@@NalinAirheart Thanks for the recommendations! I will look into that. I just started with the stuff built into OBS but I quickly learned that there’s definitely better options out there, especially with noise suppression that can take an audio sample and learn to filter out the target background noise. I have plenty of headroom on the interface, but yeah I didn’t realize when I recorded this months ago that even with a limiter engaged you can still clip dramatically.

I saw Towering Inferno at the movies when it came out. Amazing. Those weren't CGI effects, they actually burned stuff down. Soap star Susan Flannery was in it, one of the reasons I went. She gets blown out of the building in the first 15 minutes. A shooting star.

Bandrew, I have (thanks to you) a locker of microphones. The ones I play with the most now: Blue Encore 300 (with Fethead Phantom), SM-58 (with Fethead) and a tie between the NT1 and Beta 58a (with Fethead). For my podcast work the Fetheads seem to make a difference increasing gain and reducing noise. The sleeper is the Blue -- $99 special at Sweetwater when they had them. Think of the SM-58 or Beta 58a with a bit more body.

Re: Your possibly broken sE Dynacaster... I had the experience of buying an sE V7 based on it having so many rave reviews. I wound up returning it immediately because I thought it sounded awful. Not distorted... but similar to the way people described your Dynacaster. I have often wondered if I got a bad one, but I was not interested in trying another one. Your experience with the Dynacaster has made me more curious now.

One of the things that has happened lately is people updating interfaces, and get angry because of bugs or changes in feature set (GoXLR, Revelator etc.). My suggestion for a Revelator "not review", is that if it's with old firnware. Compare it before and after firmware updates. And then tell people not to update 10 minutes to a "all new update" before they need it, without doing any research of the changes or stability.

Hey Bandrew! I have a question about live monitoring from either a USB soundcard or a USB mixer and to why the direct live monitoring sounds better then the recorded version. I've created the theory that signals via the USB tend do distort the signals a bit but I'm not too stuck on my theory. Thanks.

If I watch content through KZbin Premium, but adblock still enabled, do content creators still get their cut? It's the only reason I even paid for Premium.
@bsp2 жыл бұрын
I don’t see why they wouldn’t. KZbin isn’t trying to display any adverts to you, they are just allocating an amount of your premium membership fee to the creators who you watch based on views. So with an adblocker on I don’t see why it would stop paying creators.

@@BeersAndBeatsPDX The topic absolutely fits right into what Bandrew regularly discusses though. Spotify and KZbin have both scrubbed episodes of JRE off their platforms. Bandrew has spoken extentively about why he still has a day job for this very fact, that you are always beholden to the tech companies when you don't own the distibution platform.
