This is the kind of Lex I want to see in media. All the latest ones have been these geeky skinny boys. Not that I dislike that dichotomy between the two but I find this version more entertaining. He basically represents strength built rather than strength as a gift which he hates. But despite having this strength and even reaching what Superman has he comes to the realization that he had the power to save humanity and be a hero the whole time.
@ronnickels51933 ай бұрын
This Lex represents vanity in my opinion. Lex is peak humanity, but he can't get over the fact that there is someone better than him

@thegatorhator68223 ай бұрын
@ronnickels5193 that's literally the core of the Luthor-Superman Dichotomy. Luthor is a raging narcissist. He is intelligent. He is strong. Heck, he's handsome. But he's also a coward of the highest order. He has to be the best man in any room and naturally a superhuman alien challenges that notion.
@maosama36953 ай бұрын
Lex luthor evolved through the years , from a simple mad scientist to a corrupt rich guy , to a combination of both and my favourite version is a misguided anti-villain. like dr.doom , their goals are for the benefit of humanity but as long as they are on the top of it all.
@johnbees44433 ай бұрын
@@ronnickels5193That's because all of human history has been mankind pushing 🫸 the limits of what is possible. In all of history we just needed more power, less weight, greater efficiency and so on. Sooner or later mankind proves that we just need to think more, become stronger, work harder and we will achieve anything. Imagine having such wealth, strength, charisma and imagination to forge empires to remember your name....then some God shows up? God's don't work, or think or anything. With a snap of their fingers a God can have everything and people worship that God...the once great Lex who nearly got the same worship from constant Media interviews, or the calling prayers of so many world leaders asking for new machines to enrich their lives. All humans can do with hard work...God's like Superman 🦸♂️ just do it.

Lex not noticing that Clark is Superman is part of his character. Lex sees Superman as an arrogant god who looks down at humanity and all he does is because he thinks he is better than everyone else, so the idea of Superman trying to live as a normal human and enjoying that life doesn't come to Lex head

Lex is a good villain because he’s ultimately a man of principles and has motivations that aren’t strictly amoral. He’s not an honorable or moral person, but there are elements of his character that the audience can respect and relate to, which gives a lot of nuance and depth to a villain who is opposite Superman, who is in contrast very one-dimensional (which for the record isn’t a bad thing; Superman has a very important place in media and pop culture as a “beacon of hope” etc).

Yeah except people possess pattern recognition beyond the likes of any other animal on earth literally so that it WOULDN’T work. Edit: “YoU Can Prove ThAt It Works” no you can’t. Every test demonstrating it had more than just glasses and posture being changed. You can literally SEE superman with and without all of that in the comics and can literally see that there is no difference. Edit 2: you people are embarrassing. “Uh but I do it all the time” YOU ARENT SUPERMAN. superman can literally be seen IN THE COMICS to look EXACTLY the same. In the comics all he does is wear glasses and stutter sometimes. He is blatantly not fooling anyone. Yet NOBODY ever goes “wow you look like superman”. In real life you took a person and literally just added glasses to them without changing anything else and everyone in their family and friends list would immediately recognise them. I’ve done it, you do it every time you change clothing around family.

Ironically Lex probably has more in common with Batman than he does Superman. They both have a very cynical view of human nature. That's why Lex thinks Superman is inherently bad, because all that power would make so many people evil, hr just can't fathom someone turning that power down. The difference between Batman and Lex however is that Batman still see's Superman as something to aspire towards, where as Lex see's an obstacle to be overcome

Yeah but think about it from her perspective. Across every iteration, Lois is characterized as someone who runs into danger at every turn because she values the responsibility of being a reporter and getting all the facts, even when it risks her life. Every time a dangerous situation happens, Clark Kent tells everyone to hide or run, then he goes and hides. We know why he does, but from her perspective she must think Clark is a coward. I think the whole point is that she does like Clark. She thinks he’s kind and sweet and a good person, but she can’t ignore his cowardice. She can’t really love someone who would rather run and hide instead of choosing to stay and help people. I don’t think she loves Superman because he’s handsome and confident. She loves him because he’s the type of person who would never run from danger.

This scene always catches me on what Lex's exact problem is. He's a genius in peak human condition who's genuinely capable of seeing the merit and positive aspects of others but is always comparing himself to Superman and this all the positive traits nean nothing and the only thing he can think of is to lower Superman because he feels like he can never be at his level.
@ryangainey943 ай бұрын
Lex has a sort of alpha male drive to be the very best at everything he does, and it infuriates him that Superman just does everything better, and what's worse, that Superman inherited the power rather than worked hard for it. In the latter, he's similar to how Frank Grimes hates Homer Simpson, although it's much easier to feel sympathetic for Frank Grimes, who simply put is absolutely right. But yeah, that's Lex's issue. Superman makes all his wealth and power and brains look like a joke. Lex has had access to kryptonite on multiple occasions and never actually killed Superman with it, lording over the fact that it neutralizes Superman's gifts so that he can triumph over Superman and in a shallow way prove that he's better.
@newturtle33 ай бұрын
Ironically he saved metropolis a few times when superman went under or down for the count. It is weird how he can literally be bruce wayne / batman 2.0, but his main ego and character flaws prevent him from being humbled and working well with superheroes. In a way it adds a lot of depth to his character and makes him a perfect antagonist / villain without being 2 dimmensional.

Man Smallvile solidified it for me. Kent and luthor are very good friends. Even in universes where lex doesnt know he has a respectable view on Clark
@RikkuEcRudАй бұрын
Smallville Lex was the saddest version of Lex. Man legitimately wanted to be a good person and a positive role model to Clark, but between his father's schemes and Clark gaslighting him every time he got a whiff of Clark's powers he was driven crazy to the point he ultimately had to be put down. There were multiple points in the first few seasons that it really seems like if Clark had come clean Lex would have supported him 100% and their friendship would have grounded him enough to withstand his dad's BS.
@TF2CrunchyFrogАй бұрын
I thought in the oldest comicbooks, it was canon that Lex and Clark/Superboy knew each other and were friends as young men, and when Lex had that lab accident that cost him his hair he blamed Superboy? (Kinda lame start to a villain arc, but it was the 1940s/50s...) Back in that early DC era, Lex Luthor wasnt yet a supergenius, corporate businessman and occasionally a politician, but merely an inventor, gadgeteer and crime boss who robbed banks (instead of owning them). Which let to the legitimate question by many fans, "So, Lex Luthor can design amazing supertech, but he only uses it to rob banks to get more money to build more supertech... _if he's supposed to be a genius, why does he rob banks like a 3rd rate villain instead of SELLING HIS INVENTIONS and becoming rich legally??"_

Which is why Clark has always been so careful NOT to do everything, even when he could. He actually had to have an intervention with Kyle Raynor after he first became Ion.
