This was such a fascinating and thought provoking interview with several gems, but the thing that really stood out was the last statement Eric made about compassion for everyone. Most people would agree that people who think the "system" is entirely to blame and those that think the "individual" is always to blame are both wrong, but few put it as compassionately as Eric did here. Right or wrong, people are only able to operate at the level that their current programming will allow. Help them upgrade, don't condemn or discard them.

You can also see it when he was on the JRE podcast, saying things like "jaime look that up. haha got that off the bucket list" or " it's entirely possible" knowing it's something joe says alot throughout the existence of the podcast. Lex isn't just interested in intellectual conversation, but is also a young humble fan. which is great! i love the conent.

@nymersic, that humility is part of a strategy to convince you of his ideas because he does speak in settings where truly cold factual discussion is less important than convincing an audience. I have looked for his ideas fleshed out anywhere and am finding it difficult, it's good questions and promotion of proto commie bullshit. I came here looking for it and I'm finding good humor but no help, just references to why he should be believed like his high patrician taste for commie music. Edit: His demeanor and speech are relatable, I'm enjoying it but I don't hear much economic detail besides armchair summing up of long term trends. Perhaps surprisingly, on a personal level a lot to relate to, especially towards the end. He brings up many pointed and logical criticisms of the current economic, political, and academic systems we have in place. Global capitalism is indeed courting revolution as they push blindly ahead with automation, surveillance, debased political discourse and the growing authoritarianism of our institutions. Worth watching multiple times.

(well, 30%) That's one of the things I find "maddening" about Eric Weinstein... he comes across as brilliant, and yet he struggles (in my opinion -- and as we all do I guess) to articulate in a digestible form the point he's actually trying to make. One of the best ones! Listened to it so eagerly. From what i heard Eric Weinstein has very unique way of thinking which in turn gave inspirational food for my own thoughts. Fantastic interview!

Sometimes you listen to every well-known speaker of all major fields: science, philosophy, art. And you arrive at a point where you are absolutely damn sure what's what. And then you listen to Eric Weinstein, it blows your fking mind, and you're back to square one. Goddamit!

Mr. Weinstein is correct about so many things -- it is inconceivable to me (a Cold War era child of a U.S. intelligence officer) that anyone older than 12 and with an IQ over 80 could possibly overlook the degree of intentional privacy invasion and thought control that our technology sector now affords whomever is willing to pay for access. He is also correct that more of us need to shoulder the burden of speaking up -- to the power structures, and speaking out -- to our fellow citizens, to explain the razor's edge on which we now find ourselves. The American reality grows darker.... 😬

I wish Eric Weinstein would talk about how the Skinwalker ranch research team has detected GPS (global positioning system) anomalies on the ranch, and now season 3, episode 10 (which would have revealed the data) isn't being aired in the United States.

Great interview. Other interviewers haven't drawn the same intensity out of Eric. Enjoyed his passion and occasional anger in this. Him & Lex's conversational styles compliment each other really well.

Eric literally has more valid information than anyone else that is in the public eye and he never tells you the context of very important things and it's frustrating for someone on the outside who actually understands to a degree what's going on...

Now I know what people 30 years my senior where saying when I was 25 or so. 'I don't even recognize my country anymore.' I just had a discussion today about interviewing for IT contract work. The recruiter was from India. He mentioned the client was questioning how someone could have all these items on a resume. A business analyst, database developer, back end app developer, front end app developer, unit tester, QA tester and acceptance tester. I explained that once upon a time people my age got out of college joined a company and were given several business areas to respond to any request or issue that came up with any of the systems that supported their functional processes. I told him we did in one job what 5 or 6 people do now. I told him that being asked to work one of the 5 jobs would only allow us to use 20% of what we can do. I said that makes us feel diminished in scope and purpose. He said he understood. I can't blame the current generation for playing out their roles in this scenario. I think Eric is onto something about the dangers of allowing value systems to deteriorate in the name of capitalist exploitation. Its more than just 'where has the middle class gone?'.

Actually, I would say that the tradition Eric mentioned when marrying couple visit WW2 memorials has developed due to a lack of beautiful places to go to. This is not about patriotism. It is to make that day memorable.

Holy shit.. that last minute of this podcast about responsibility hit me deep as hell. i have had teachers, parents, family, friends, and bosses ALL completely negate responsibility, as have I, yet there are so many times i recognize that i am putting too much of it on my own shoulders. what a profound point Eric brought up there. WOW. woah.

That analogy about the transference of kinetic energy to potential energy in terms of fighting and tensions, was a great one. I think that's also in alignment with statistics and some general arguments by Nassim Nicholas Taleb and that systemic removals of mild perturbances lead to higher level destructive forces in the long run. That wouldn't bode well for us, if true.
