I will say, I find it really odd how often I see people cross-shopping or comparing the ITS and IS 500. The cars could not be more different. I think you did a great job highlighting how the IS 500 is not exactly a super-sporty vehicle like the ITS. I love mine, and while I'd like to sit here and think it's just as good to drive as the ITS, like you, I don't like to be a fanboy about it. I know the ITS is going to be sharper in the handling department and more involving thanks to the manual trans. But I like that I can drive my IS 500 just about any time I want, doing pretty much anything, and feel comfortable and confident in it. And, it is RWD, like you stated.

Great comparison review Que, very thorough. Just wanted to make a quick point, you never put the IS500 in Sport S plus mode, once you in Sport mode one more clockwise turn of mode switch will put it in Sport S plus mode, it changes the instrument cluster, boosts throttle response, makes shifts bit crisper and stiffens up suspension a little more. I agree hard to utilize full potential of car on public roads, you hitting 100 before you even know it. Extremely comfortable, but you right you do feel the weight. Engine, sound are marvelous but shifts are really slow especially at less than 500 rpm, and steering is not that tight. Overall great daily, I'm averaging about 15 mpg.

I owned 2 FK8 CTRs(one FBO/400ish hp)and that added 12-15k in cost for lightweight wheels,parts,labor,tune,etc. AND I was still planning on new fuel lines/PRL E85 kit,oil cooler etc. The car was still slow off the line but in fairness I requested more top end power…which was great but like my tuner said…they could give me a lot more power but that’s where reliability issues will surface. For that reason I’m considering the turn key IS500 with its 472hp bulletproof V-8. I realize it’s apples and oranges but the road noise is a lot less in the Lexus plus it can be had with the excellent Mark Levinson sound system…on top of that sweet sounding engine. I know the mpg isn’t the greatest if you’re on it but I’ve heard it actually can reach the upper 20’s/low 30’s if in eco/highway cruising. My point is…for the same ballpark price…that can be financed…a fun,reliable V-8 can be had…before it goes away.

The Accord had 345k and still didn’t leak any oil which is why I bought a Type R for commuting once the kids went off to college. Put over 80k in about a year…no issues.(300 mile round trip to work). Traded in first CTR so I could mod a new one which I did finally…then a delivery van driver rear ended/totaled it…hence having to search for a new toy. Choices seem limited right now as far as a reasonably priced(45-60) sports car that’s fast/reliable. Toyota has the new MR2 and Celica coming out with AWD that’s giving me potential EVO vibes when modified so that’s cool. The Supra is fast/good looking but it’s similar to the Camaro where you feel like you’re sitting in a hole. Fingers crossed on my eventual choice or choices depending on price. Technically the IS500 and the TLX are in the same class, not the Integra. You are 100% correct, the IS500 is the embodiment of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde! Incidentally, I've used the same descriptor on other reviews. 🙂 Hopefully in your full coverage review, you will click the car into Sport S+. You only went to Sport S, which holds gears longer, but doesn't do anything to the suspension. (And the response to the paddle shifting is the same as Normal mode.) That's why it was still super soft in the turns. Ultimately...this is still a Lexus and the most aggressive setting will still be more compliant than everyone else. However, if you click it into Manual along with the Sport S+, you will feel an upgrade in the suspension's tautness and the transmission's response to the paddle shifters. I drive mine in Manual and Sport S+ all day, every day. The 500 isn't perfect, but it's pretty damn good. 😀 Thanks for posting!

I thought I was the only one who is a fan of the IS500 and the ITS and is having trouble deciding between the two for completely different reasons. The IS500 is in another league when it comes to fit and finish and quality. The panel fit is superior to the ITS. The major draw of the ITS is the 6-speed manual and the roomy interior, but I was somewhat disappointed by the panel fit. The ITS is also in its first year so hopefully some of its quirks will be ironed out in the next couple of model years. The IS500 on the other hand is proven and the last of a long line of Lexus V8s. I know everybody wants that V8 but I’ve sat in both of these cars and I would take the Acura as a daily any day. Interior of the Lexus felt cramped by comparison

I have a type s integra and don't see anything in the Lexus for me but it's a nice car
@edensnicolas95936 ай бұрын
It’s something about putting the lexus vehicle in sport mode then sport plus, the car feels like it has a lot more to give and it want to.
@bryy20536 ай бұрын
I looked into both these cars up here in the northeast, focusing on the integra. But that Lexus though. I ended up securing an allocation for a shelter green ranger raptor. There's so many good cars out here now it's tough to go wrong. Nice car bro
@QueTheChaotic6 ай бұрын
Nice choice!
@bryy20536 ай бұрын
@QueTheChaotic thanks man. With the roads up here I felt the ranger raptor would be best and smooth things out without worrying about low pro tires and winters etc. I've been through that with audis.....not fun dodging every little pothole and popping two tires on the same side with one spare (that isn't full size) it's gonna be fun up here!

I saw this video and my jaw dropped. This is the exact comparison I was looking for. Currently have a type s and just feel for the price I wish it was better. But I drove a 500 and realized the engine is the reason you’d buy it. Doesn’t drive better.
@Supabash6 ай бұрын
If you owned one for 10 years which would you pick?
@ARentz076 ай бұрын
@@Supabash Well I have an IS 500 and I just might end up keeping it for 10 years lol. It's my daily - I know there are better-handling cars out there, but I can still enjoy driving it on the mountain roads from time to time and yet still have a very comfy daily.
@Supabash6 ай бұрын
@@ARentz07 yea that is what I’m thinking as well. I’m 30 and realizing more and more that I want a daily with a dose of fun rather than a racer with a dose of comfort. Lexus interior also destroys integra. And you’d be like yeah of course it should it cost so much more…..except it doesn’t. type s is expensive
@QueTheChaotic6 ай бұрын
With my current fiasco with Acura, I would choose the Lexus to own for 10 years. While I love sporty cars, I enjoy reliability and lot more. The type S is a terrible value for what it offers. I still enjoy driving it a lot but I couldn’t myself keeping it for 10 years.
@Supabash6 ай бұрын
@@QueTheChaotic yeah I saw that. Jalopnik even wrote an article about it. I agree, the Lexus far better long term buy. Even if the transmission sucks. lol

Hate the long gears on the IS500... there's a pleasure to them, as it lets you sit with the screaming V8 for a longer time... but i wished you could play around with snappy short gears a bit more... the top of 3rd gear is almost 100mph... that's ridiculous.

Id take the integra all day. Manual transmission and it will probably hold its value better than the Lexus due to the desireability of the car. The FWD is better in the winter as well and i live in an area where it snows regularly during the winter time.

I know you love your Integra, but the real question is, how does the IS 500 compare to the Acura TLX Type-S?
@QueTheChaotic6 ай бұрын
That's a true luxury to luxury comparison. The TLX would weigh about 300 lbs more. The AWD grip is amazing. The infotainment controls are worse. They are both tight on the interior. The IS will be more powerful and sounds better. The TLX has sharper handling. I would buy the Lexus.

You're comparing an integra type s to a Lexus with a V8 in it. That speaks volumes on the Integra. I guess it depends on the person but understand that cars are made for different reasons. On the track do you believe the Lexus would leave the integra far if at all?
@QueTheChaotic5 ай бұрын
On a road course the Integra would dust the Lexus. The suspension on the Integra and being 800 pounds lighter gives the Integra a huge advantage
