This is a big mistake and extremely sad. The GS has a huge following.... all they had to do was re-imagine the GS.. not cancel it. The GS name plate is worth its weight in gold. The car was almost perfect it just needed to be updated. It wasnt selling good not because it was bad it wasn't selling good because Lexus was not on top of keeping the car competitive. The GSF should have come out way before it did
@TheShadow941
@TheShadow941 4 жыл бұрын
I think the big problem was they never would give the car the engine it needed like the twin turbo v6 the LS had with 416hp and all the updates the RX got i believe if they had just put the bigger engine in there they would have tripled the sales!

I loved my 2013 GS350 F-Sport. In seven years, I never had one problem with it. I don't see the ES taking it's place so my fear is I will be reluctantly looking for a European 4 dr sport sedan. The LS500 is just too long for my liking. The ES still feels like your parents Lexus. Kirk, you totally nailed it when you said the GS holds a strong emotional interest. People who have owned a GS develop an emotional bond with the car. I still have my LC but Lexus will not get my daily driver replacement.

I agree 100% with you. The GS is spectacular! Just like the Infiniti M56 with the V8, nothing compares to it. So when Lexus and Infiniti both dropped the V8 from the GS and M I knew things weren't looking up for those models. The Q70 has been cancelled as well.

All wheel drive or not an ES doesn't drive like a GS. It's a shame really, I was hoping they would keep the GS long enough to release a new Gen and buy that as my future car. A good all-rounder with great reliability. The infotainment setup could have used a rework though. Now I'm not really sure what's out there to get that has that package with the reliability the GS was known for.

I want to see your passion for these vehicles the Lexus brand, in my opinion, is misunderstood and you bridge the gap through education and certainly through information. Sad to see the GS go! Lexus needs to step it up if they want to remain relevant, they cant rely on their history of reliability forever. I think I come off too critical for some of the "fan boys" (people) that are usually in your comments but they haven't had anything more exciting than the competition in a while. IMO they should have redesigned the GS and made it look like a 4 door lc500. They have been more than complacent with their SUV's too, not really sure what their engineers do every day

I got a low mileage 2006 GS 300 AWD 2 months ago. As I like luxury brands, comfort and quietness, I had 2 Volvos before. The GS does everything the S80 does but better, plus the handling is second to none with the longitudinal layout and the RWD biased AWD. I like the car so much that I was already thinking to the new model I would buy in a few years after saving a bit, then these news came out. The IS/C-Class segment etc. cars are too small for me, and the LS and equivalent way too expensive. The mid-size segment cars are juste perfect, ES not being counted in because it is FWD only. I am really, really sad.

I think part of reason the GS always languished behind the Germans was its lack of providing a "best fit". For starters its styling always seemed a bit bloated... not that it wasn't a handsome and accomplished car in its engineering, but the Mercedes E Class and the BMW 5 Series always had a balance, at their base, which could either go serious (business/affluence spec), or sporty (Avantgarde / M Sport). Furthermore this was achieved with distinct equipment and appearance lines, with different interior trimmings, seat material options, and on the exterior, different bumpers, grills, and wheel options, depending on the line chosen. The GS by comparison always appeared to have one "look", with just a few engine options. The F-Sport packages didn't do enough by way of differentiation, and the halo GS-F seemed half-baked since it couldn't hold a candle to any AMG or M product. So basically, the majority of shoppers out there who may have been tempted to give Lexus a try after they decided to move on from their old Mercedes or Bimmer, would not have found a GS model that ticked all the boxes.

Lexus has no cars that interest me anymore. I have owned 3 GS and currently drive a GS450h. Guess I'll hold on to it until Lexus realizes its mistake and brings back a midsize RWD sport sedan as a replacement.

I agree. The GS was the one sedan that stood out from all the others. I don't find the ES or IS appealing. The Genesis G80 is one to consider.

I have a theory that maybe they're discontinuing the GS for now to bring a new generation in 2022 as 2023 model to be an anniversary model since its first model year came out in 1993. They could bring it back as a 30 year anniversary model for 2023

This hurts my heart so much. I owned a '99 GS 400 and a '07 GS 450h. I would drive those cars on the West Virginia Turnpike like a madman, and they gave me nothing but the confidence and reliability to do so. I really wish Lexus would have updated the powertrain and internals to compete with the Germans. Will never forget those commercials for the Gen 2 that had the Tasmanian Devil from Looney Tunes and the GS out their doin donuts Stock!! I really hope they bring this back at some point because the mass production, family oriented ES will never be the iconic GS. Gonna pour out a lil liquor today...damnit.

I wished Lexus would have made the GS into a A7/CLS competitor or ushered in fully electric high performance GS as a replacement instead of killing it completely. Everything can't be blamed on the increasing demands of CUV/SUV. They just let this car die much like Infiniti did the Q70.

Need some advise. I haven't seen a single GS F in South Africa, and now I am considering importing (Purely because I want this car and recently came into a little bit of cash). I went through 5 Lexus dealerships in South Africa and none of them can help me buy second hand overseas. Do you know which route I can take, to import a second hand GS F (i.e from Japan as they have right hand drives) into South Africa? Can I go through Lexus or is there another way to do this? Thank you in advance.

Kirk, Cheer up. I wrote to you several months ago regarding what to purchase to replace my 2008 M35X. You suggested the following... On Monday, I am picking up a beautiful 2015 GS 350 F. Optioned just right. White with the Flaxen interior. (I am a mature purchaser.) I am selling my well maintained 209K miles Infiniti to my landscaper! It's a cash and barter deal! He loves the car.......He'll regret the barter component in the Spring! He and I are both living large. My Infiniti goes to a good guy who will love it as much as I. Then, I get the GS! Thanks for the advice. George

This is rude of Lexus. I have had a 05 gs300, 08 gs350 and now a 2016 gs350. The rear wheel drive is way better then the front wheel drive ES. If they did what they did with the ES to the GS, it would be #1

Hate to hear this, although has been expected for a couple of years. My 2013 GS is my favorite car -- I've thoroughly enjoyed its balance of luxury, quality and performance. You're right, Kirk, Lexus kind of left the GS by the wayside in favor of upgrading the ES. I think those two models were too close for many buyers who didn't really know or care about the significant difference between rear and front drive sedans, and GS sales suffered at the expense of greater attention to the ES over the years.
