The rear differentials in this car are always super clean. The front diff is a different story I drained and filled mine after 20k miles just for the heck of it and it was pretty dirty. I think the location near the engine and amount of fluid makes the biggest difference.

Mine burns from full to low within my oil change interval so no need to top off. For those that burn more (my brother's IS350 burns alot) keep topping it off and never run it low. Eventually it'll probably clog the catalytic converter and at that point you'll need to replace the piston rings.

What is failure mode for coolant? From chemistry point of view there is no degradation over time. I understand cars from 80ties with degraded engines that overheat to dammage coolant but on new car I see no reason to change it. Simply measure it and top it with conetrate if needed.
@speedkar99
@speedkar99 Жыл бұрын
I'm not a chemical engineer but fluids do degrade with time, and as the engine seals start to wear down it can get exposed to other fluids or combustion gases. It's cheap insurance, better to be clean than for it to start building up crust in the radiator or heater core.

His coolant looked pretty clean. But if you want to do your own coolant change. Empty from the radiator. Then replace it with distilled water. Drive around. Let the car get to operator temperator so the coolant from the engine is cycled through. Then go and drain the radiator again. It'll be hot. And of course don't open the radiator cap lol. And just keep repeating this until the fluid is mostly clear. Finally try to find out online how much the radiator holds and the engine block. In the case of my Lexus it's close to a 50/50 capacity. So I added concentrated oem coolant to my radiator. Then drove around. Let the concentrated coolant mix with the distilled water in the engine and viola. A 50/50 mix.

Complete with the Scotty grunts. Your old diff oil looked good. Are you wasting your time and $ here?

I agree, it looked really good for its age. According to the previous Lexus service records the coolant and differential wasn't changed for 8 years and 80,000km and the spark plugs for 100,000km so it was due by time.

Most videos trim out the double-click torque method but it's the best method IMO.
