Johnathon Hodge and Gary Sulsh composed this tune for British Leyland in the mid '70's. The singers were Hodge, Gary and Clare Torry and it was recorded at Sounds Aquarian Studio.

As a seventies kid I had two Morris Marinas and before anyone says they were crap I and my young family had many happy memories with holidays and many hours of driving around the countryside. Happy days. Fantastic cars in there day.

Have to say the Morris Marina was in the top ten best selling cars during the 70s and for two years running, knocked the Ford Cortina off the number one spot. In fact, Austin Rover (BL Cars) were due to stop making the Ital (Marina Mk 4) in January 1984, but had so many orders to fulfil, the launch of the Montego had to be delayed until May.

you know im sure this was a cheery song back in its day, but hearing it now it just feels sad knowing the fate, like this was the turning point where it all went wrong for the massmarket british car industry. this new super-conglomerate that was meant to save it that just died in a few years. its really kind of tragic.

I'm furious with Leyland Cars! I had to replace the water pump on my 1975 Rover P6 3500 after 43 years! I was actually quite upset as it had the Leyland Logo stamped on it.... I'm not throwing it away though :)

I have become a far more knowledgeable person as the years have rolled on, and ive learned how much of the problems of British Leyland were overplayed. And im going to have to say that you are right, the Marina wasnt bad. It was just simple cheap reliable and rather unremarkable transportation, something I think we both can agree are all the cardinal sins a car can commit in the eyes of an automotive journalist
