Also, since then, more recent BIOS updates (from MSI, at least) have become so large that they've had to drop support for the pre-Ryzen APUs, such as you bought. To get a newer supported (and improved) equivalent, you might try the Athlon 200GE or 3000G APUs.

I think we can all see the context of the video. Watching it now, 2 years later, it still all seems very reasonable to me. I was holding off upgrading my almost decade old i7 until the new Zen CPUs dropped precisely because the older Zen CPUs weren't measuring up. So I'd say don't worry about videos aging; they are what they are. (Amusingly, the computer I replaced died soon after the new one arrived. I say "died" because it just wouldn't reboot one day, and I used that as an excuse to just move on over to Linux. For all I know I just needed to do a deeper power cycle.)

The upcoming chips the 3203 BIOS was referring to was the Ryzen APUs that released around feb 2018 (Ryzen 3 2200G/Ryzen 5 2400G). They were released before the Ryzen 2000 series, but based on the Ryzen 1000 series.

@TheTurnipKing4 жыл бұрын
@@whiplash7400 technically, yes, but that board is still actually in use. In addition, one of the benefits is that it's labelled to match the board, making it a doddle to plug the front panel into and then just plug that into the board. It's even keyed. I think you could quite easily use the same stackable pin headers used for Arduinos for other boards, but I didn't have any to hand while building.
@alexatkin4 жыл бұрын
Its not as good as it should be, they have a habit of using pins that too small so the header cables easily fall off. Its also kinda problematic if your case doesn't use all the headers as you have loose pins lying around asking to short to the case.

There are advantages to having an oversized psu, they tend to be most efficient at about 50-70% utilization, so you can get better efficiency by having a oversized psu vs one that is just big enough. On top of that, because the psu is running at let's say 50%, there will be less heat, and less load in general, so you get less wear on the components, most likely resulting in longer life.

Its interesting you mention the PSU as few people realise the changes in the ATX specification can be a real pain when trying to use a new PSU in an old computer. It may be better now thanks to LEDs and USB driving the 5V requirements back up again, but when CPUs first switched to a 12V header, PSUs designed for that didn't have enough 5V amps to work with older motherboards that ran the CPU VRM off 5V. (at least that's how I recall it)

Then listen for the beeps - if no beeps then CPU is not running - simple! Then feel CPU to see if warm. Once you get beeps, start by adding RAM, then graphics (if required), then boot hard disk, then rest of stuff. step by step until problem is found. It saves time in the end.

Looks similar to my problem. I'll see if I can download any needed update via my current (to be replaced with the build) Mac Mini. Wild card: At first I got no fans, not even on the PSU. I put the open MoBo on its box and figured out I'd put the Ryzen 5 CPU in sideways. I'm hoping it's not damaged. The pins appeared OK... no force was used. I just lined up the triangle with what I thought was another triangle on the socket. I reset it and got a white LED on the MSI MB. I still haven't found out what that means. No speaker to make beeps, but no video at all. At least now the PSU, CPU and GC fans all work. This is my first build since my last Win machine in about 1995. I went to Mac in about 2000. Now I'm a Linux guy. It's been OK on the Mini but that's starting to be too slow for what even browsers need these days. Wonder what info they're trading as I stare at a video or Facebook. Corsair and it's iCue RGB range is what you need a 1000w PSU for because when you see someone buy 1 RGB Corsair fan you know he's going to have more than 1 within days

I'm not sure what I'd call it... I'd call it's a front panel connector block, but I can't find any useful results when searching. They come with motherboards sometimes to make it easier to quickly disconnect/connect the FP wires.

you read on bios page "to support new CPUS" but the bios above that said the same... so that one was for 1000series ryzens and the next for 2000

You probably won't see this but I'm surprised you didn't try clearing the BIOS after re-seating the CPU.

Looking back on this 6 years later, I see one schoolboy error. A lot of motherboards won’t start, if you don’t have a cpu fan plugged in.
@johnflynn61404 жыл бұрын
that board must have had the USB 3.1 header ripped off cause that board does come with the plastic plugin for it but if you pull at it wrong you can rip them off to leave bare pins which are not good. makes me think this is not a new board and that it was just upgraded to the 2600x only

I have a GA-AX370 GAMING K7 and my new ryzen 9 won't boot. Fans and everything comes on but the cpu on-board warning light is going off. How do I reset a safe mode to flash it. It doesn't start up so I may run a thumb drive with drivers on it.

YOu need to get it to POST with a compatible CPU first if it does not have FLASHBACK ability (i.e., ability to update BIOS without CPU)

PC turns on cpu cooler,psu fan,cooling fans, are spinning VGA fans aren't spinning but LED's working on VGA. MSI EZ DEBUG indicates CPU and quickly indicates VGA."NO SIGNAL" on monitor cannot get into bios. Note:- this was the first boot up I was able to install windows it worked nearly 2 hours and suddenly monitor showed "NO SIGNAL". I couldn't install/update bios,drivers,etc plz help?
@Adamant_IT4 жыл бұрын
If the debug LEDs are moving over to VGA and stopping there, it sounds like a graphics card issue. Try testing the card in another computer, or putting a different card in.

curious to know how much he charged the client considering he had to pay for the apu
@Adamant_IT4 жыл бұрын
Client was not charged any extra for that. This video is somewhat obsolete now, what with Ryzen 4000 on the horizon, but that APU paid for itself over the next year with the amount of mobos I BIOS updated with it! In retrospect, I should've bought a second hand Ryzen 1200, as the APU caused problems in some places. But we're about to see all the tables turned on their heads with Zen 3 anyway.

@@Милошмилош-ц2г hope this helps: in some cases (like when new components/issues come to the market) you spend a long time diagnosing a problem. you can't charge for 10hrs of (guess) work, so you lose money/time on the first ones. as times goes by, the same problems reoccur and you're able to fix them quicker and recover the lost time... ps: the actual price is based on location and all that. some places charge $50 for a BIOS update and that's acceptable but in other places $10 may be very expensive...

@@duroxkilo Some of the bad companies I have seen charge £100 for putting in ram sticks! and about £80 for putting in a SSD or hard drive! So imagine how much actual repairs are!

I did get some thermal paste on my 2700X the other day. The Motherboard didn´t even recognize the CPU. I though for a sec i fried it, because I was a bit reckless while turning off the PC and demounting everything.

Yeah as someone who just purchased a 2700x and was looking into common build issues, once I saw the 370 on the MoBo, more then lightly BIOS. Also will you be doing a build video when you got all the parts for your new rig?

it's only obvious if you recognize the issues.. building experience/knowledge takes time and effort... in the beginning you lose lots of time, in the end you gain it back :} * it may take you one minute to solve a x370 BIOS issue but it might take you 10 hours to figure out a Lenovo T510s charging problem (that someone can fix in 30min)..
@AeiKei4 жыл бұрын
@@duroxkilo well the charging problem is more difficult than a cpu detection...when you see x370 and a ryzen 2 cpu the first thing that comes to your mind as a technician is "missing bios update"

Cleaning thermal paste....break cleaner or thinner Most (99,99%) of electronic parts are cleanable with thinner. I clean PC,Pro amplifiers and TV already for 20 years with it.Some compressed air to help it vaporize on cold days..or parts that are a little affected by thinner. When using break cleaner,take a brand that not leave whiter spots behind..like Wurth..avoid Motip (no problem if you like white spots)
