Great video! This whole story hit home with me. Fellow Panasonic 50 series 55’ Plasma owner who held out until this year to move on to OLED, with the LG 77’ C1. I absolutely loved my VT50 plasma. Was never able to move away to other tech, even with the emergence of 4k and various other bells and whistles. Plasma was just that good, even at 1080p. Was always disappointed that Panasonic stopped Plasma and almost entirely left the US TV market. However, I eventually caved to the desire for a larger screen, 4k quality, and OLED technology this year and snagged the LG 77. It’s truly a thing of beauty and a very worthy successor of sorts to the Plasma quality that only Plasma owners would understand. Enjoy it buddy!

@kadajawi6567 2 жыл бұрын
Creating 4K plasmas was very, very hard, and people just didn't buy enough (for whatever reason... fear of high power consumption?). Also, it seems like 4K plasmas would have had extremely high power consumption, thus making them even less attractive and potentially banning them from important markets. It's a shame, because to date I don't think anything can match the quality of a plasma in several key areas. They are well rounded and capable of displaying nearly anything beautifully (including VHS tapes), while OLEDs struggle with some content.
@HomeTheaterHobbyist
@HomeTheaterHobbyist 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I remember power consumption was mentioned as a reason that 4k tech wouldn’t work on plasma. Honestly that makes sense because even at 1080p my plasma would heat up the small room I had it in in our previous place. 😆

@@HomeTheaterHobbyist Haha, agreed. There's a reason why the VT30 has 4 fans at the back. I wonder what would happen if they bothered to actively cool OLEDs?

I was the same. I had a Panasonic 60" ST50 Plasma,Upgraded to a 65" ST60 Plasma. 4K and HDR came along. I purchased a 65" Panasonic DX700 LED TV and was impressed initially. But the more i watched it,the blooming and inadequate black levels made me yearn for more. I finally went OLED with a 65" C7 a few years ago and i havent looked back since. Im still happy with it today as im not into 4K/120Hz gaming etc. It plays back 4K UHD Content superbly. Now im looking at either a 77" or 83" OLED shortly. Glad you found the perfect Plasma replacement like i did. Love the Channel.

Nice one! I just went from an ST50 65" that I bought new in 2012, to a "65 A90J. Been holding off for ages because I loved the plasma so much, but finally found a worthy successor. My wife's parents have inherited the Panasonic & loving it, it still looks beautiful and going strong. I just wanted the HDR and 4K for streaming services. I was worried that I might miss the plasma magic but wow, I can't fault the Sony, the picture is so stunning, even my kids were like "wow this tv looks amazing" and they never get fussed by anything. So yeah nice vid, and anyone else still holding on to an old plasma, it's finally worth the upgrade! The latest top tier OLEDs really do smoke them completely.

I've been in love with plasma since I first saw them on display at best buy. It was the first tv to steal my attention away from my Sony DLP tv. I've never been a fan of lcd or led as they could never match the blacks of plasma. I remember reading about oled years before they came out and was very interested. I finally bought a 55" LG oled for the bedroom in 2018. That has become the home theatre TV over the 65" plasma until we get a bigger oled.

Thanks for the video. I’m still using my Pioneer plasma from I don’t even know, about 13? Years ago. Wish I had bought the 50” Kuro at the time. Mine is just a 42”. I’ve never cared for LCD, so it’s nice to see there is a viable alternative for us holdouts. Funny thing, I also use the Klipsch reference series up front with Bose 701’s for my rear surrounds. I’ll be getting an OLED soon enough. Thanks again for sharing.

Great video, I also came from a Panasonic 55” plasma forget the model number but early 2000’s and had it up until the main board failed for the second time, yes that’s how much I loved that tv but the board was now hard to find and price was around $700 so after seeing tons of reviews on LCD vs Oled and seeing them on display it was night and day difference. I purchased last years LG CX 55” and seeing that inky black just brought me back to my first days with that Panasonic plasma but man when that HDR picture came on in 4K resolution I was amazed. The other thing I’ve always disliked about lcd is the motion handling especially since I watch a lot of sports, it just never seemed LCD’s could get it right. The other thing I’ve been enjoying is the new PS5 on the LG and coming from a guy who’s owned every generation of PlayStation, this tv and the PS5 are just spectacular. All I have to say congrats and enjoy it LG did an awesome job with these Oleds.

Thanks for the review. I am in the same boat. I have a 65 inch Panasonic plasma in my home theater, a 60 inch Panasonic plasma in the game room, and a 42 inch plasma in my den (which we actually watch daily). They all look amazing, and to me much better than an 4K LCD TV. I am about to start upgrading my TV's to the LG OLEDs starting with the 65 in the movie room. Plasma screen owners really won't settle for anything less than OLED tech - it really is the best picture for sure. Not even close. Oh, am also a Klipsch speaker fan too!, and have about the same setup as you have. LOL

Similar in my household too. I had a 65in Panasonic as my main for years, and now its in my bedroom. I have the 77in lg GX mounted to the wall. The lg is actually pulled about 18in from the wall. I don't have any light bleed on the surrounding walls and it makes for an excellent dark room showing(walls are black too).

Loved the video. Short and to the point! My plasma died earlier this year and I too have been eyeing the OLEDs. The price finally hit a point I was comfortable with. Zero complaints on the picture and sound, and that's out of character for me. I do have 1 complaint and that's the build. I was so nervous mounting the TV because of how thin the screen is. I would rather have a sturdier structure behind the screen so I don't have to worry about cracking the glass. Other than that, best TV ever!

Same here...I purchased a 50" Pioneer Kuro Elite Plasma TV back in 2007. And for those that know, the Kuro was the tv that ALL tvs were judged by...for a long time. It was my main tv for a few years. I then purchased a Pioneer VT30 Plasma and moved the Kuro to my bedroom. I knew the only true succesor to plasma would be OLED. I eventually purchased a LG 65EF9500 in 2015, then the 77 C9 in 2019, and a 48 C10 in 2020. The 77 is my home theater TV, the EF is my bedroom tv, the 48 C10 is my pc monitor, the Kuro is in my kids play area , and the VT30 waiting for a spot of its own. I'll eventually go all OLED and find a good home for the plasmas :)

Excellent review, very informative and well done👍. I own a 2013 Panasonic ZT60 (the last flagship of the Panasonic Plasms), and I still have no intention in upgrading - maybe in 2023 when I see what's available (tvs should be pretty spectacular by then). A guy I know came home from China in 2017, and he could not get over the picture quality of the ZT60; he said he saw unbelievable TV's on display over just before coming home. I once was offered a display model 50 inch Pioneer Kuro for 3200, I wish I took up the offer at the time, would be another unbelievable tv to own.

I have a similar TV journey as you. I started with a midrange Samsung Plasma but my last Plasma purchase was in 2013 a Panasonic 55" ST60 that I now use in my bedroom after it being replaced in the living room by a 65" TCL 6 Series in 2018. That TCL was sold and replaced by a 75" TCL 8 Series, their first mini led TV set. I was thrilled with that upgrade and it's sitting in my living room right now. However, I decided to upgrade it to a Samsung QN90A 85", which I haven received as yet, based on the good reviews and crazy Samsung sales. During the buying process I was unexpectedly able to save over a thousand dollars from what I was planning to spend so I decided to use that savings to upgrade the old plasma in the bedroom and found an open box Sony A80J at Best Buy. Jumped on that deal and setup the TV beside the Panasonic ST60 and was disappointed with what I saw. I know the Sony OLED has not had enough hours of break in time, nor calibrated like the ST60, but the best settings on that Sony was barely equal to the Panasonic Plasma. I thought after all these years I would have been blown away with the the OLED picture over an almost 10 year old plasma but I wasn't. I 9 out of 10 scenarios the plasma picture looked better than the OLED. I've decided to return this open box TV to Best Buy and keep using my Panasonic. The tremendous heat coming from the Panasonic has always bothered me and noticed it even more since I moved it into the bedroom, but the picture quality amazes me to this day, especially after today. I am chalking up the inferior PQ I saw from the A80J today may be from a defective TV but still wondered and came searching for answers on KZbin and that's how I found your video. So from your video and comments here, and other places, I now know my eyes are not deceiving me. Good quality Plasmas of old do stand up to the latest OLED. I may try an LG C1 if a really good deal comes up on a 55" version, but I'm definitely in no rush to replace the ST60, not after what I noticed today. I'm definitely keeping my Panny and not give it away as I planned to, I just wished it didn't heat up my room so much, especially living here in S. Florida.

Man, you're speaking to me. I've finally decided to move on from my 15-year old Pioneer PDP 5070 plasma, and get an OLED. We've hade 3-4 LCDs during the intervening years, but my favorite has always been that Pioneer plasma. But seriously, 15 years? It's still going string though; and if I weren't ready to move up to 77", there would really be no reason to change. Hope you enjoy your C1 as much as you enjoyed your plasma. Hope we both do.

Hello again I want to thank you for all your help this year . I am going to ask once again for your thoughts as everything you suggested for me thus far has been spot on . For you to analyze, I purchased the following kef q 150 with matching center channel and Polk tl1 for rear ceilings with SVS subwoofer . I feel my weak spot is the receiver which is a 6 year old Sony Str 1060 which is ok but I don’t get any thrill from it . I was going to purchase a Yamaha aventage a2aor a4a but these do not seem to have the bugs worked out and I really would like to avoid updates as I am NOT technically inclined . Then I thought denon 3700h which is expensive but I see good reviews. I now see pioneer back out with the elite 305/505 . It’s all very confusing to me . I just want awesome sound . I never nor will I play video games but music and video is important and that is the intended use . Reviews I have seen are praising the pioneers . I am also getting the lg c1 but in 65 inch . Any and all help would be much appreciated . Also considering adding a pair of paradigms in front for extra oomph not sure though . As always thank you . Frustrating

Thank you for your kind words! I’ve reviewed all three brands you mentioned and like all 3. I agree, I wouldn’t want to wait for Yamaha. Looking at the denon vs pioneer choice, I’m tempted to say Pioneer due to the room correction software. I haven’t tried Dirac but I hear really good things so I think it’s better that audyssey on the denon. If your room setup is challenging I’d choose the pioneer. Otherwise I’d go for the denon based on my long term experience, my own 4700h has been great. Let me know what you choose and how you like it.

Cool video! Our journeys are pretty similar. I'm a few years older so my journey started a few years earlier. My first was a Pioneer 9g Kuro back in 2009. Absolutely beautiful, and maybe the best picture I've ever seen. Unfortunately it developed this red tint, and since Pioneer exited the tv business there was nothing I could do, all of their panels were gone. Had the Panasonic 60VT60. Unfortunately it had the worst image retention and burn in I ever saw. Had the LG 65" Oled B6, at 18 months developed a faint shadow bar on the right side of the screen. Now have the 55" C1 LG Oled. Fingers crossed!

Good purchase Cody. I am also a very happy owner of a 77C1. A few things you should know: -the C1 has terrible picture quality out of the box. Mine had clouding, DSE, and crushed blacks. Before you return it or hire an expensive ISF tech to tune it, put some hours on the panel and the picture wil improve. Mine improved tremendously after 50 hours. -you will be very happy to know that ALL 77” and 83” C1 displays use the Evo panel regardless of manufacture date. So you now own an Evo OLED.

However OLED with 4K and HDR is a noticeable improvement! I'm still floored by this wonderful new experience. I was so tempted to get the 77" model but couldn't fit it into the budget. I'm another ex Panny Plasma owner. We had the 50" G20 model for many years, until a couple of years back, it started to randomly switch itself off and on. After reading endless reviews, and being lucky enough to live in the UK, we decided on the Panasonic GZ2000. What a difference! The blacks, whites, colour range and brightness are all on another level. The GZ2000 takes films, sport and motion in its stride and even SDR content looks fantastic.....not being a gamer, I can't comment on that aspect, but I've read it's not the TV's forte. It also retains the superb viewing angles of the Plasma, something that's really important the way we have out living room arranged. The built in Dolby Atmos speakers add superb sound to Atmos and surround content.....okay, not on the same level as a dedicated Amos set up, but not everybody, me included, has the space for all the speakers etc. OLED is currently the best technology available on the consumer market in my opinion and I hope you come to the same conclusion during you forthcoming review. Enjoy!

We bought our 65” LG C1 OLED just over a month ago and every day I’m still blown away by the picture quality. We have other 4K TVs but they don’t come close to the beauty that this thing produces. The colors pop beyond anything you can imagine, just beautiful. And the blacks are just that, black like they should be. If you are on the fence in getting an OLED do yourself a favor and get it, you won’t be disappointed. And as for the reviews saying not to get one if you have a lot of windows i can say don’t worry about that, we have a lot of windows in the room it is in and it is plenty bright even on sunny days. I simply cannot say enough great things about the picture quality. The Dolby Vision and HDR movies and programs on Netflix look amazing and there are a lot to choose from. Just take your time mounting it and follow the directions, not too hard really about an hour to do so. Hope this helps.
@absolutium
@absolutium 2 жыл бұрын
The issue isnt having sufficient brightness to watch some content during a sunny day.. the issue is having the tv at >90% of its luminance output where it is the least efficient and way more prone to pixel degradation.. which you might need to if the room is full of sunlight.

I have not been tempted to upgrade it all these years later as I do not watch 4K or 6K or 8K material and when I am in the TV shop, modern TV's are soo bright they make my eyes water up and the picture does not look natural at all. Lastly I notice tons of motion blur on new stuff. Mind you I have not been into a TV shop for a couple of years so am I missing out?

I moved from 58" Panasonic V10 Plasma to a 65" LG C9 OLED. The OLED is better in almost every way, but the motion clarity of the plasma is still missed. Initially it's quite jarring making the switch, but I've gotten used to it. It's either that or be forever "stuck" with 1080p with no HDR. I know black frame insertion on the OLEDs is supposed to kind of mimic the pulse driven display of a plasma, but the C9 can only do BFI at 60hz which doesn't cut it for me. Perhaps the newer models running it at 120hz is the perfect sweet spot. In any case, it's OLED or nothing as far as I'm concerned. The other display technology options don't stand a chance.
