@@HeloisGevit The C2 is the first series to drop BFI at 100/120hz. I went out of my way to get a GX (for my bedroom, with its highest motion clarity out of any OLED) and a G1 (for my home theater, slightly lower motion clarity at BFI high, but the EVO panel being brighter making it a more well-rounded TV). Case and point, having the option for a very aggressive BFI at high refresh rate, taking advantage of the noticeably brighter modern OLED panels, would be a dream for anyone who understand motion clarity.

@floz9718
@floz9718 7 ай бұрын
@@mickeyneo4228 Yeah, if the put MLA on the C-series they would end up like the years before the evo-panels, where the G-seies had the exact same panel and SoC (= the same PQ) as the C-series. If that's the case, noone will buy the G-series since the C-series would be pretty much the same besides the design. Sure, they could restrict the brightness of the C-series and only put the heatsink in the G- series but that would probably still leave the C-series with 90-95% of the picture quality of the flaggship - which isn't a good business strategy if you want your cusotmers to pay top dollar for the flaggship model. LGs problem is the competition though, Samsung's QD-Oled really stirred the pot and the S90C provides insane value. Actually, Samsung kinda has the problem I just described; the S90C is way to good for anyone to pay more to buy the S95C.

The most important reason to aim for 144Hz isn't PC gaming. It's so you can perfectly display 24fps content with 3:3 BFI to properly emulate the function of a film projector. That's the question you need to be asking Sony and LG among others.

120Hz BFI beats out 240Hz sample and hold in motion clarity also picture quality which feels close to 300Fps, referring to the newer sets of televisions which excluded 120hz BFI only offering 60hz BFI as a cost cutting measure or pure lazyness because people don't know how to use it properly in a supposed low-latency "GAMING TELEVISION" as coined by users. Newer sets introduced the MLA array, which significantly brightens the OLED which is there offer appeal in contrast to the lower nits of previous sets, but now users won't get 120hz BFI for the foreseeable future out on the newest features of the better panel and upgraded processing which is unfortunate because that would be the perfect combination

Does LG C3, or C1/C2 TV's based on the same OS, have funtions to display test image with 8 and 10 bit color tones, so we can see if it works correctly? I've noticed that actually it hard to check if LG C3 support 10 bit for real. Because I see color banding in games and weird results when I choose 10bit in Nvidia control panel, and se almost no color banding when i use 8bit settings in Nvidia control panel. So I would like to check it directly on the TV and see for example how many tones I see in Green color it will be 255 tones or 1024 tones.

I wish I could get the G4 in 48" or a C4 with MLA in 48". I've use a 48" CX as combo Computer Monitor & Streaming TV for 23,468 hours since new in 2020 and the colors have lost some of the "pop" they had when new. It still looks & works fine and I've received excellent value, but I can definitely tell there has been some fade or dimming over time. 48' is simply the max size for computer use given the DPI difference between 48" & 55" when sitting at a comfortable distance away, so it's a pain each year when the best tech only makes it down to 55" in display size. I can't justify another C model even if the presentation on the CX has faded somewhat. An upgrade to MLA would be well worth it, but not at 55". I suppose it's that same difference in DPI which precludes MLA technology at 48". They need something more than 144 Hz for upgrade on the C level product. Hopefully, there will be some new improvements to the C-Series other than new chipset and 144Hz refresh this time around. For all practical purposes, the CX - C3 models have been near carbon-copies other than minor upgrades to the menu and the addition of a "Game Mode".

Instead of focusing on solving real issues such as chrominance overshoot, VRR flicker or motion clarity (or lack thereof), which would have way more impact than this 1.4ms improvement, LG once again falls prey to following the marketing hype. Such a shame. I want to convince myself to upgrade from my C9 but LG isn’t really helping. I guess they just made too good of a product.

I just wish they would stop putting out these fake OLED displays with hoorible dynamic resolutions that barely break the 300 TVL margin, actual OLED, the one worth having over Plasma is RGB-OLED, my cheap RGB-IPS-Black has much better fine pitch/detail than mt OLED screens, things like text, straight lines, shaders and so on look awful on Pentile-OLED and WOLED monitors, you have to be 3 meters or further back for it to be resonable, my arms arent long enough to reach my mouse 3 meteres away though lol, even 960x544p RGB-OLED looks sharper and nicer than my 4K Pentile-OLED & WOLED, not to mention much, much, MUCH nicer colours/luminance/greyscale/shadow-resolutions, the fine details look good even with my nose right up to the panel, we really need an RGB-OLED monitor, and they really need to get rid of the awful sample & hold modulation, that's fine for static desktop use, but for any dynamic use, it's just no good any way to blurry and laggy. RGB-OLED with rolling-scan would be perfect and a true upgrade to Plasma @ 8K or higher resolutions, 2nd gen OLED, aka Tandem-PHOLED is RGB-Stripe, so hopefully they won't find anything to mar and destroy that, and I really hope they spend a few bucks on modulation R&D and fix the sample & hold nonsense.

Motion clarity how so? Since its an OLED panel the motion is clear as day, unless you mean motion smoothing like for TV shows?
@kirchwald
@kirchwald 7 ай бұрын
@@ThisisCitrusOLED screens still show motion blur due to being “sample and hold” displays, as opposed to impulse based displays like CRTs and Plasmas. For reference, a 60hz Plasma would show the motion clarity of a 175hz+ OLED, a CRT even higher. You can close the gap with backlight strobing/black frame insertion, but OLED TVs since the C1 generation no longer support that feature at 120hz sadly.

What's particularly sad about all this is that LG used to be the innovators here. It all started when they got in big trouble for the latency in their flagship OLED and being unable to solve it with firmware. The very next year, LG gave us the first HDTVs in history where low latency was a specific focus rather than fundamentally a happy accident. The year after that, every single TV maker had followed suit and latency has never been a major issue with panels since.

@@kirchwald Exactomondo, except I would argue even 240hz OLED fails to come close to the motion response of 60hz Plasma, at least 8/9th gen Plasma with 600hz subfield-drive, that would take 480hz RGB-OLED at a minimum I would suggest, as for OLED matching 120hz Plasma monitors with 2500 Hz Focused Field Drive, which are pretty much on par with 75hz CRT, that would take what would you say, well over 1000hz brute force OLED, I'm not sure how a good roling-scan-bar algorithm @ 360hz/480hz would perform on a RGB-OLED or PHOLED panel, that may well produce good enough motion response to negate sample & holds shortcomings, at least it would be a very good bandaid to tide us over untill we see 3960hz mLED displays become available in 2028/29. Ive also often wondered how well 2500 Hz Focused Field Drive would perform on OLED, it has the pixel response to pull it off, it could really finaly unleash OLED's full potential and give us RGB-OLED with near pefect 1:1 static:dynamic resolutions.

If the changes made to the G4 stick through to release, I'll be curious as to why LG would ruin the image on their top of the line model by implementing a (semi-)matte coating. Glossy screens always look better. As far as I'm concerned, if someone decides to buy one of these expensive glossy TVs and then later complains about screen glare, that is user error. Close some blinds, get blackout curtains, whatever. Very little excuse for it, and I'd rather LG didn't conform to the lowest common denominator, especially for their flagships. I'm hoping that doesn't stay through production or trickle down to the rest of the models, since those are the ones I usually buy since I do literally everything through my PC. We'll see.

The DPI for a 27'' 1440p is optimal for PC monitor usage but i' m afraid you can't just apply the same Formula to a 42" screen like that as you will want to sit a tad further away from said screen as it could be too big for normal PC work like non-gaming or watching movie tasks. Sitting further away means you cant see as many problems with DPI, so technically it might not be a problem to have a slightly lower DPI the bigger the screen gets.

Going back to my Alienware 144 hz 38 inch LCD looks smeary and low refresh rate in comparison. I've been ruined and can't go back. But while I think this monitor is amazing and don't regret it at all, I am very interested to know more about new panel technology that will be in the rumored 2025 5k2k successor to this. More ppi (it is not great with text) without sacrificing brightness and ideally higher brightness and less aggressive ABL would really help take it to perfection. So looking forward to what the C4/G4 bring if anything new in panel tech. I believe my 45 OLED monitor already uses MLA. I wonder why they can't support 240 hz at lower resolutions on the TVs, like 1440p?

Oled and lcd refresh rates aren't comparable that's why you see such a huge difference. If you put your 144hz lcd panel next to a 240hz lcd panel it wouldn't be a huge difference. However the 240hz oled has a perceived motions clarity of more like 320hz so that's why it's such a huge difference to you. It's important to understand that oled refresh rates and how it's perceived by the eye is different than lcd so if you buy a high refresh rate lcd in the future you don't think something is wrong with the panel lol.

@@tangodown2721 I watched a hardware unboxed video where they compared 240 hz oled to a 360 hz TN panel with strobing and actually the TN panel had better motion clarity. However that comes with the downsides of LCD and TN such ad higher response time, much worse ghosting, much worse viewing angles, not to mention black levels/contrast, colors or HDR. I think there are compromises no matter what, but I also don’t ever want to use an LCD again unless maybe they can get very bright very small almost per pixel backlight array. OLED has a lot going against it too such as burn in, lower brightness, VRR flickering, lower pixel densities, weird pixel arrangements causing fringing, low selection, and high cost. Worth it for gaming despite all that though IMO.
