LG G5: One Year Later

Removable battery is one of the main reasons I chose this phone. When my battery gets bad after a year or so, at least I can just buy a new battery instead of a new phone. Really happy I chose this phone instead of another Samsung (I had the S3 and S4), it works perfect. I've had it for about 3 or 4 months now.

Oh, that sounds annoying! Haven't had any problems with that so far. Well, my phone's at the repair shop now, because the WiFi chip stopped working all of a sudden. At least it falls under warranty, but I miss it like crazy (using the Samsung Galaxy S4 now again, and it's driving me CRAZY :P first world problems, I know.)

same here. i had samsung s5 since new in 2014, i kept it because of extra batteries, i could just pop in a freshly charged anker and have my phone ready in seconds.i just bought a lg g5 because of the removable battery and 4gb of ram!! the overpriced iphone x is only 3gb ram. my phone's battery area isnt warped, its all flush and nothing sticking out, not sure what mr phonedog did. probably bought a fake chinese copy of the g5 lol

I have this phone and switched from Samsung... love it. I get updates so fast (not nexus fast, but much better than Samsung). The size is just right, usb-c is great, and swappable batteries is well worth the time cost of turning it off and back on.

The G5 is a great phone and is very fast. Replaceable batteries should be on ALL phones because they only last ONE year. After that you are stuck with poor battery life for the rest of the time you keep it.

BlackDragon31000 All phone batteries work great for the first year... After that it's all down hill. It just dies faster and faster every week until it only lasts a good 2 to 4 hours of quality usage. No special care will help!

I've had my Samsung s4 for mini for two years and I got it second hand, still on the stock battery and it lasts a decent amount of time,but its also a small screen and I keep my screen at about half brightness.Getting a G5 tomorrow though but after reading reviews I'm second guessing my choice lol

Never having to sit by a charger has become a way of life. I just charge the second battery that came with my phone in the cradle (that also came with my phone) and my phone never dies.

As a G5 owner and coming from an older G3 I have zero issues or complaints with my G5. The speaker is loud and sounds better then what was on my G3 the build quality is fine for me. The removable battery was a big selling point. But the add-on gimmicks weren't, LG should have thought that out better.

i love my lg g5 but there are some problems that you did not mention and from what i understand, they are on every phone out there. 1. burning images on the screen, if you stay on a page for a while and then switch to a different page, you will still see the images burnt on your screen from before. 2. the rear button. stops working really fast including the fingerprint scanner.

I like the fact that this is becoming one of the last flagship phones that you can replace the battery on. I like to have a couple of charged batteries with me as a make my way in the world and all I have to do is just pop in another battery. I have an external charger for my two extra batteries.

You have missed the point of the modular phone. The LG G5 with the camera grip goes from 2800ma to 4200ma battery. Making it possible to go from 0% Battery to a possible 150% Battery in about 10 second. The LG is the fastest charging phone in the world, proving you have a spare battery and the grip. The grip is down from £69 to £9 and a new battery is about the same. I do loads of vlog stuff in 4k so need loads of spare batteries.

Picked one up for 200 used on swappa. Upgrading from an LG G2 that got destroyed. Had a XPure, S6, and Note5... wish I wouldn't have broke that Note... Sold the S6 to buy the xPure. long story about that but it's long gone... not my fault though. The G2 was a BOSS when new. SD800 when samsungs highest end had only a SD6. hope the G6 returns the button placement.. I for one loved the G2/3/4 button layout

It's has a very good camera. Love the wide angle. Wish they had the same pixel as for the G6. Love the QHD screen. Love the speaker. Loud enough to blast my songs. But hate the battery. So low capacity yet love the quick charging.

I love my G5 I hated the app drawer and foung that you can bundle the apps and name the bundles, that makes a breeze finding your apps. I bought several batteries and fully charged them and in a trip I used the GPS, the camera and tha park apps and the single battery lasted almost the whole day, changing it only to charge it... Great pictures, clear sound... Definitely love it...

The main thing that I wish it had was the battery saver feature that you find on the Nexus from 7.0 on. On my Nexus all I have to do is swipe down, click on the battery and turn on battery saver. The G5 only starts to save battery at 15% and I don't know why they just didn't go with the feature as it's given free from Google on the base Android 7.0.

At first I hated mine because it wasnt charging properley. But now i realise the problem was the charger. The screen retention still sucks though and the gps signal sucks. The speakers are good. The camera is good. The button on the back is good. The removable battery and 3.5mm jack is good. Fast charge is good.

$430 is still a fair price i guess but in most places LG G5 price is around $350-400 now. With S8 coming up, S7 price now is around $450-500. The important thing is that you enjoy it. I'm planning to buy LG G5 for a long time but with S7 price these days, it makes me think a lot. I hope LG G5 will be much cheaper so that i wouldnt regret buying it over S7 or Oneplus 3T.

I definitely prefer a user-removable battery. I swap batteries and use a battery charger. I'm often unable to put my phone on a wall charger while I'm at work and doing a lot of walking around. I just like being able to swap for a fresh battery instead of relying on the life of a monolithic battery. Batteries also wear wear out over time. I want to be able to easily remove a battery without damaging the phone.

Got the G5 and have the same problems with more. 1. if you have more than one battery as you should if you own the phone, calibration is consistently messed up because you consistently switch battery's! :/ why didn't they think to make the phone recognize which battery is in to properly calibrate each separately. 2. SCREEN BURN IN ! ! yeah... on an LCD wtf. I've had the phone replaced after about 6 months and now the replacement also has noticable screen burn in. I seriously thought it had a strange software bug. Other than those things the phone is OK, but I didn't have any problems with my Nexus 5 until YEARS later. Which is normal for things like the battery to go back and the charging jack to wear out (the plastic in the center literally wore down). And I took it apart to clean out gunk stuck in the ear peace and speaker. BOOM! it was like new after 2 1/2+ years of semi abusive use. Point is, I heavily trusted LG to make a rock solid phone with the G5 and was very let down in comparison to the Nexus 5 (rev2 btw, I saw they had a new Nexus 4 after I got mine so I waited ~2 months after the Nexus 5 went on sale). Now it's starting to act up every time there's an update, then have to factory reset it :/ completely the opposite with Nexus phones.
