Funny thing just occurred to me how extremely different and exciting this review was. Maybe this is the story/review/honesty LG was hoping for, maybe somewhere in South Korea an LG exec is crying in his office saying we love Mr Carlos this is what we've been trying to tell people. Really great work Mr SGG.

BTICronox The problem is that people are allured to the insane production values of those channels to the point where all the other guys like Damir or Juan get pushed to the sidelines. I cringe whenever they say "they needed to stand out with a glass phone" because that's not practical, alongside the whole "premium feel" thing. Even worse is when people angrily comment, saying they're wrong because "Popular Reviewer X said it's great. You don't know what you're talking about". I own a Note8, and it's served me really well so far. But it's important to get a bigger picture. I remember watching one video about the Huawei Mate10 Pro and there's so much wrong information in there that I wonder why did he bother to push it out. I get wanting to appeal to a broad audience but maybe some of those don't care for iPhones or Galaxy phones or Huaweis.

I actually prefer the satin finish on the P2 but I think most of the G5's controversy stemmed from the claim that it was metal. I wouldn't mind at all if they made a G5 with that satin finish, albeit done in a way that doesn't wear off easily Believe it or not, I would rather have that satin finish on my phone than glass. Glass is my personal least favorite material for a phone, but everyone is jumping onto that bandwagon because apparently, tech bloggers love it. That's in the condition that it lasts. If it wears off easily, no thanks.

@JuanBagnell Thanks so much! My goodness the Hi-Fi Quad DAC is audio nirvana. I can't even listen to MP3 anymore. FLAC is so crisp. The G7 is truly underrated. Despite the 3000mAh battery, I've managed to get 7 hours of on-screen time and nearly 9 hours overall without battery extended mode. The notch isn't as bad as folks make it out to be even though I choose to mask it. Excellent 2018 LG flagship device.

Dark Angel Rafael I wonder if you notice a difference in streaming services like Google music. And with mediocre headphone like the ATH M50x because that is how I listen my music. Also considering this phone, I could get it for 515 Euros it seems like a good deal. Better than the OnePlus 6
@ApexLodestar6 жыл бұрын
xxBlackpspxx I don't really listen to streaming music often. I prefer FLAC audio files for music listening. However, the Tidal app offers lossless audio Hi-Fi streaming. The Audio-Technica ATH-AD500X is currently less than $80 if it's within your budget.
@ApexLodestar6 жыл бұрын
xxBlackpspxx Additionally, when listening to Amazon music, the LG G7 ThinQ Hi-Fi Quad DAC does enhances the audio when headphones are used. Sound is much louder, more crisp and overall better than without it. Not to mention the DAC software has lots of customization options to fine tune your audio experience.

A lot of reviewers downplay or not even mention burn in. My s7 edge got burn in after daily use as my gps via Google maps, of course, with "adaptic lighting" when its sunny, the screen maximizes the brightness which made it prone to burn in. That made it unusable as a daily driver. I still enjoy the screen of my s7e but its never gonna be the same. :sad:
@SomeGadgetGuy6 жыл бұрын
I had some issues with the S7 for that exact same reason. I don't think it's a deal breaker, and I still LOVE OLED contrast, but I think we should be honest about what the pros and cons of a technology might be.

That is a great review! LCD is as good as OLED if not better (every technology has its strengths and weaknesses). I talked to someone who told me that the screen on the V30 is better than the one on the G7 just because it is an OLED... 😂 This phone, the U12+ and the XZ2 are really great phones in my opinion.
@SomeGadgetGuy6 жыл бұрын
That's what I hate about tech fads. It just becomes a meme that "you want OLED" or "glass = premium". We lose all the nuance of pros and cons.

Clous von I've used OLED and LCD. I always go back to LCD because apart from the deep blacks LCD is as great as OLED. But LCD has the benefit of being more durable (no burn-in, etc...) and black levels are still increasing on LCDs.
@lionelb82276 жыл бұрын
That would be the first time I hear about burn-in on LCD screens. Are you sure this is not just image persistence? It's just temporary, I had this on my SHIELD K1 sometimes and it goes away instead of burn-in which is permanent.

Dude, thank you for this review so much! I had the G4 going on like 4 years, and it was messing up the other day beyond my repair. So I was in a pinch and got the G7. Now, I didnt wanna get it (or any other phone) mainly because of the nonremovable battery because I purchased a huge battery for my G4 and didnt wanna part ways with it. But after watching this and hearing your opinion it makes me happy that I got it. So thanks again for this video! Keep up the great work.

JuanBagnell, is the G7 substantially better than a V30? Especially for the screen, performance, cameras and audio performance? Would you consider it over the V30? Is it the better option? The better "Content Creator's Dream Phone"? And btw, I love your sarcasm from the conclusion. I agree that LG should be given more attention, especially for what they deliver to the table, just like you. And that's why a lot of people love your reviews including me. Keep it up and maybe more people would come to your channel because it would be a bummer for someone like you quit youtube. Thank you for giving us the information we need. Keep making great content.
@SomeGadgetGuy6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. No, I wouldn't say the G7 is substantially better. A faster CPU and louder speaker, but the V30 is still a monster phone. A few camera settings I'll discuss in my camera review actually help the V30 eke out a win if you were looking to create from your phone.
@davidjohnbalce11116 жыл бұрын
JuanBagnell So? I should consider the V30 still the better phone? Regardless of the faster processor and loudspeaker? Because as you have said starting from the 820 processor from Qualcomm, it's gross overkill which just supports the argument that you don't need the incremental upgrades from their next gen processors and me personally, I prefer using headphones because of the quality that can't be replicated on a phone speakers.. I personally, don't like oversaturated photos. I still like photos and videos that resemble the scene when I took it.
@SomeGadgetGuy6 жыл бұрын
It's a complicated question. I wouldn't call the V30 "better", but the V still has a bit more focus on content creation than the G.
@davidjohnbalce11116 жыл бұрын
JuanBagnell oh, I get it. Even though I'm not a content creator I still think that I'd rather have the phone that's focused on content creation even though, the G7 is focused on courting a broader range of consumers. Although, all welcome improvements doesn't mean it's the right fit for me. But, one last question. Which would you pick for your cash?
@davidjohnbalce11116 жыл бұрын
Alex Alex I love his reviews, too bad that Juan has to put his Real Camera and Real Audio reviews on Patreon as he is one of the differentiators in the field. Most reviewers favor popular brands, although they are good, are somewhat biased of the brand they praise, most of the time they are the reviewers that are getting more attention and reviewers like Juan are being criticized because of his honesty towards his usage of his smartphones which really puts it to its limits therefore, giving us a wider perspective of what the phones are capable of. Not just because its the popular brand, it's the one you have to pick.
@user-ll8un5zb8s6 жыл бұрын
".. And LCDs tend to resist burn-in.." This should be true, in theory, but as far as I know, G5, G6 and V10 etc, all of them have LCD panels, and all of them have screen burn in problems. I know it's know the same issue as in AMOLED panels, because here, after some time this burn in stuff disappears, but it's really annoying that you have to manually change temperature of your screen on a brand new phone, just so it doesn't show navigation bar or KZbin logo all the time on the top left corner for instance. I absolutely love the G series of LG, and I had every single on of them from G2 up to G6. But now, I switched to Samsung, because LG phones broke a couple of times already (G3 had a yellow screen, G5 dead motherboard, and every single G5 and G6 I had, had a screen ghosting problem). It's annoying to see that such a big company doesn't care about such an issue, and yes, it is a huge issue. Bad motherboards and screens are the thing that repelled me off these LG's, and I don't think I am coming back anytime soon.

Love the screen. Compared a display unit to my Note8. Very 'easy on the eyes' and the notch has options for blocking it out. There are very few flagship models that can convince me that carrying them around with a tablet for productivity is better than trying to unrealistically use a phablet to cut corners with productivity. The g7 is definitely an exception

I've loved what LG does with smartphones since my first V10 and even the G5. The modularity aside, it was a solid performer with a great camera setup. I've had the G6 and now the V30. Things I especially like that nobody else seems to do (or at least not as well): dual camera with wide-angle sensor, quad DAC, super fast and accurate fingerprint sensor with great placement, tap to wake, and even little things like weather animation on the lock screen. I do wish the V30 had a notification LED and IR blaster, though.

Thorough no BS review. Many of the Samsung guys would condemn this purely because of the notch. I know you’re not a lover yourself and you prefer small phones. Nevertheless you appreciate the build quality the audio and the camera. This seems overall a well thought out device. I am on the Apple side of the fence but would give this serious consideration if I was looking for an Android device

Best review yet on this phone. I still don't like the notch but I like the audio improvements. I just wish LG would go back to a replaceable battery and metal design like the V20.

I'm very impressed with your review style and substance. Will also mention that TMobile is providing a buy 1 get 1 free discount on the G7 and V30. Rebate is in monthly bill credits. But you don't have to "add a line". Makes both phones very good options considering they work out to be about the cost of the OP6 or a bit cheaper (after taxes and fees). I'd prefer this phone with an OLED. I get the advantage to the LCD and it looks like a nice one but still prefer the OLED colors. That and a smaller notch.

I'm hoping we see that on a V40?

andyH_England you have a good point, i still keep my iPhone 4 for the same reason you bought the V10, and i don't have Bose headphones but i have V-Modas, i used to have Audio Technicas but they died too quickly. I can't have an audio system for myself at home, only i listen to metal, orchested and EDM at home, because we are latinos. Also, i travel sometimes (with friends or by bus) and i like to have good quality audio on the go. I saw a video of a guy making tests between FLACS and MP3 and pretty much nobody whom he tested, noticed a difference between the FLAC file and a 320bps MP3, that's why i don't underrate it, but i know that audiophiles will go the extra mile and play really high bitrate audio.
@NeXMaX6 жыл бұрын
andyH_England It's not a feature consumers appreciate and understand because better audio is something you have to experience
@NeXMaX6 жыл бұрын
andyH_England and that's the thing. The DAC is very difficult to market. You can say it's great but you need to get people to try it. It's a fantastic audio performer, no doubt about that. But I know about it because I had experience. What about the guys who have only used iPhones or Galaxy phones in their lives? I know I use a Note8, but it's mostly for the stylus.
@Al.j.Vasquez6 жыл бұрын
D13H4RD2L1V3 well, i don't consider the DAC alone a selling point over other phones, but the existence of a 3.5 mm output, is something that would make me buy a phone, over another one that doesn't have it. I think the argument of the good DAC but the average rest is misleading, because LG is offering everything 2018, except for the camera quality, that it's 2017 sort of speaking, but that has to be considered when you factor the price that you have to pay for the phone. The essential phone was praised for its price and design, but IMO it was an overrated piece of average stuff without some important features, 550$ isn't cheap. LG phones decrease in value quickly, which make them a bargain as soon as they drop under 500$.

I was really waiting for your video because I know you are different than the others KZbinrs, I do respect your opinion, I've been guessing a lot on getting the G7 since I've been a G user since G3, I have and love my G6 and don't know if I should wait for the v40 but I know that phone will be be expensive and I don't spend no more than 750 for any kind of phone so that's why I need to know if the G7 is a great update over my G6 that is been an awesome phone thanks Juan....
@SomeGadgetGuy6 жыл бұрын
It's tough because the G6 was a SOLID phone. I actually like the build better on the G6, but it's one of the few times a one year upgrade might make sense. You'd be jumping TWO processor generations. So that might feel more substantial than usual.

JuanBagnell thanks that's enough for me, plus you already make me decide to go for it with your video, 1000 thanks keep your videos coming I definitely enjoy it and pay a lot of attention to your reviews, thanks again ✌️👍

I agree with what he said about separate the G and the V models because it feels like to me the V models have a few more features that make them slightly better than the G model which raises the question of why buy the G model. My prediction for the V40 is that it's going to be look like the G7 but with a slightly taller display and it will not have the features that have been complained about on G7 so far meaning it won't have a notch, the Google Assistant button will be able to do more than launch Google Assistant and the battery will be bigger.

I'm glad the finally fixed their burn in issues. The V20 and G5 only burned in because the color profile was so awful and blue. Once I rooted my V20 I calibrated it and all the burn in is gone and it's soooo much more accurate, I can actually edit photos on it now
@SomeGadgetGuy6 жыл бұрын
The G7 color profile out of the box is really cool too, but they include a better screen calibration tool than the G6 had.

Honest opinion, that IPS screen, what's it like in person? I'm very fond of oled screens and I want to know how this compares. I have one on order to pick up tomorrow and I might cancel it in store if the screen isn't up to snuff.

Loving the review and still wouldn’t seriously consider an LG device. But after hearing this review, I’d be more inclined to give LG a “shot”. As always, killer content and happy to get some exclusive content through the Patreon site.

JuanBagnell There is ALWAYS a reason to evaluate devices. Maybe your use case changes. Maybe you just want a change. I have an iPhone 8+, an HTC U11 and even my trusty 950. More competition is always better.

Fun Fact Huawei Phones are so fast to unlock as they are less secure they do not need a 80 to 95% fingerprint image but only a 50 to 60 percent accurate image of the fingerprint!!!!

Thanks! I am thinking of moving up from my G6 to this per the DAC/Boom sound, slightly better screen, and all the processor goodness compared to my current G6.

One of the few year to year upgrades that might feel worth it. I still REALLY like the G6 build, but there's a lot of refinement happening this year.
