Wow! Thank you SO much! I am a 69 yo grandma and with your help I was able to fix mine which had the exact same problem. A few tips to anyone else doing it- pay attention to the configuration if the gadget that moves the bar holding the flap. Also when replacing the flap mechanism pay attention to how you put in the spring so it correctly puts tension so the flap closes.

I have to say this is one of the best, if not the best, DIY repair videos I've watched. It was tricky at times, but the quality of the video and the steps shown were fantastic. Total cost of the repair, plus my time and a little aggravation, 19 cents. It would have been half that, but I bought two different length screws just in case :-). Thanks!

DUDE.... this is the exact problem I was having. Thank you so much for your amazing video. Thank you for the tip about drilling out the broken piece. Thank you for showing the EXACT screw I would need (I was able to buy just one at ACE for $.06). I cannot tell just how help this video was and how grateful I am. I watched your video last night. This morning I removed the panel to confirm that I had the same problem, drove to Ace to get the screw I needed, fixed the problem, and reassembled everything in about two hours. I can't believe it was that easy. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You saved me so much time and money. Great video!

Mine has been broken for about as long as you've had this video up. I've just been too lazy to fix it. You made it look super easy and I decided to try. This was the exact problem. Took less than 10 minutes to get rid of an annoyance that I've had for years. I can't say this enough Thank you!

I never make comments about these videos but feel compelled to weigh in on this one. I followed the steps depicted here to a T. Discovered that the issue described here was exactly my issue. And the repair was easy and very doable. 2 things. For anyone counting or keeping score, I did break one tab. Also, long curved nose forceps are a handy tool to hold the stand-off in place while turning it to find the matching broken surface. Very useful video.

My fridge had the exact same problem. I had called a service "expert" and was told the problem was a faulty switch which would cost $400 for a service call to repair. Your video was bang on and easy to follow. I did use a bit of superglue to strengthen the post but otherwise did everything as you suggested and 'VOILA' my icemaker is working again..Thanks for the very informative video,

This was EXACTLY what I was looking for. I had the exact same issue. It makes me wonder if this is not a design flaw. Perhaps LG should have used 3/4" screws to begin with. Your video was well made, and you took your time and explained everything clearly. LG quoted me a repair cost of $400, well technically $399. Ha. Thank you so much!! Have a great one!

Thank you for this video! I had the exact problem once I opened up the dispenser. Your video was so helpful in showing your solution which I used too. It’s literally 10 cents to replace the 1/2 inch screw with a 1 inch screw and that would have likely prevented the part failure in the first place. Thanks again for taking time to video this and to share it!

I used this video to guide me through replacing the entire dispenser. The video is perfectly accurate. I first removed the door handle, it is held in place by a set screw with a hex head at each end. Remove the front dispenser carefully using a putty knife wrapped in painter’s tape so you don’t scratch the front of the refrigerator. I also placed painter’s tape on the stainless steel door face surrounding the dispenser to further insure I didn’t scratch the refrigerator front surface. All seven electrical connectors are unique so you can’t misconnect the new wires. Pull apart each connector carefully with your fingers, some have a snap fitting to hold them together. I had to use a pair of needle nose pliers to separate the smallest connector. After reconnecting all the wiring, simply snap the new dispenser in place. Tools required- hex head tool, putty knife, painter’s tape. Easy peasy- 20 minute job.

The problem was exactly like the one in your video. My fridge must be a newer model since the removal of the icemaker insert was easier and did not require moving a lever through the ice chute. I was hesitant at first but I got an estimate for repair which included a diagnostic trip charge and are turn trip with parts. Calculating it could be a $500 + service repair, I tackled the project with faith in your video. I appreciated the advice of NOT using super glue, which totally made sense. I also used a 1" screw so hopefully it never happens again. Seems like this issue is really a manufacturer defect? The Grok Shop Rocks!

I must thank Google for helping me find you. Terrific professional video and explanation. Very clear and right to the point! I don't need to be entertained by some fancy animation at the start. The video was very clear and stable and your audio was also very clear. I don't quite have the same problem. Mine has a sticky ice switch that is difficult to stop the flow of ice once triggered. Knowing what needs to be done to gain access to what is behind the switch panel will do it for me. Thank you!

Oooohhhhh thank you! Flap wasn't closing and it was EXACTLY THAT SCREW. LG should have a recall on this! The only thing I'd add is that if you dare to try to superglue the broken plastic piece, you may end up with superglue on your hands, your tools, etc. 42 Cents, for a pair of screws of slightly different lengths. It's a bear to get the panel off, but the fix was just as you showed!

This was very helpful. I realized my unit was full of mold and wanted to get it clean. I would have never got it apart without this video. I was pulling really hard and it didn't feel like it would let go without breaking something. Finally it did "pop" and I continued to work it carefully. No broken tabs. I'm not sure the putty knife was necessary. Looking at the tabs, once it was apart, it looks like pulling straight out would have been the best bet. Thank you for doing the research.

Terrific video, thank you. I repaired my 4 year old LG LMXS27626 ice chute door using this. I agree that removing the dispenser door was extremely difficult. I went very slowly, used far more force than I thought I would have to, and eventually got the dispenser out after about 45 minutes. All tabs were intact, somehow. I had prepared to repair the screw post as you demonstrated, but much to my surprise, my problem was simply that the opposite side spring was not installed correctly! Incredibly easy fix, once I got the dispenser out of the door. I suspect it came from factory this way. I have had occasional problems with ice/frost jamming the chute, but seemed to be happening much more frequently lately, and the COVID-19 quarantine finally gave me enough time to trouble shoot! Thanks again!

We have an LMXS27626S with this failure. I used a combination approach to removing the dispenser cover, first the putty knife to pop some tabs loose and then tugging a bit. It came loose after about 15 minutes. The same post was broken. The post and interior are black. I removed the retaining clip and the left spring came off while I was fixing the post, so I had to figure out how to reinstall the spring. Reinserting the dispenser is much easier than removing it. Great video, just what I needed. Thank you for putting it together.

Thank you for taking the time to create this very clear and concise video. I'm seeing this video AFTER having an LG service tech visit my home three times to repair the ice maker. The problem I'm having appears to be a flap that is not sealing tightly. It open and closes when activated. This is causing water to periodically dribble out of the chute. It was a similar problem we had with a Samsung refrig in which the Samsung tech just replaced flap assembly unit - problem solved. I explained this to the LG tech and said the problem was with the ice maker - which he ordered and installed. Knowing how the flap assembly works will hopefully help me recommend to the LG tech, who I'm getting to know pretty well, to replace it. LG - Life's Good! (only when your appliances are working correctly)

Thank you so much for posting this fix. You may have guided me towards the solution for replacing just the LED panel cover (mine got damaged due to humidity dark spots). However, as you pointed out, replacing it is almost prohibited, as I cannot manage to open the cover to replace it . So simple, yet so hard to reach for an opening...There is the risk of damaging the edges of the control panel itself while trying to reach for the cover, hence creating another bigger monster. I will try to find someone that could help me, and will save your detailed video as a DYI guide. Many thanks again!

The one thing that comes to mind for this issue would be the spring. If the spring is not seated well or installed properly, I could see the flapper not opening correctly. When I reassembled, I didn't put mine in quite right & had to redo it.

The motor for my ice flap unit was on its last legs and I just replaced that. It would open all the way one time and the rest it was half way. Once I replaced the motor itself ( LG Part# EAU59551204) it solved the issue. Also, I was able to remove the whole dispenser panel with just friction of rubber dish gloves in lieu of a paint scrapper with the great grip on them…a lot easier and no broken tabs

This was very helpful ! I expected to find a broken post like shown here, since my symptoms were identical. The screw post was not broken, things just seemed to stick. I took a cue tip with a little silicon spray and lubed the white lever and points were it interacts with other components. This seemed to work...at least for now. It does look like the white rod starts to deform over time, so maybe down the road that will need to be replaced. Getting the panel out was a hassle. I tried the "pop out" method I saw elsewhere, but that didn't work for me ( or I am too faint of heart ). I did manage to pry it out without marring the finish. Thanks for linking to the manual - nice to read that even the pros break a few clips and that it's "SOP"

Hey, great video! I have a similar problem with the flap not opening completely. It opens only partially and hence the ice won't fall out of the funnel. Any ideas what might be causing this? It works occasionally as it should, but very rarely. I usually have to open the flap by hand and the ice will fall out. I would like to use your video to repair this problem and I was wondering if others have had this same issue of not opening fully as opposed to being stuck open?

If the flap does not open (or partially) it is most likely the actuator DC motor failing. However, if the LED light and ice bucket churning motor also don't come on, most likely the micro switch, or the plastic lever that actuates it has failed. All are serviceable after the cover is removed from the door front. I got the motor from Genuine Replacement Parts ( LG Part# EAU59551204 Ice Dispenser Door Motor @ $51.89 EA). See Also: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZyaanlrjNGEbM0. Although a different fridge model, it shows how the motor actuator arm comes from the factory in the extended/out position, requiring you to hold the flapper open when installing (i.e. arm out = flap open / arm in = flap closed). Once installed and operated, the motor resets itself to the flapper closed position after 4 seconds, ready for the next cycle.

I think this identified a similar problem with my LG fridge - when I get around to it, I will fix it - and it will be easier thanks to this video.

How do you troubleshoot this same problem on a Whirlpool side by side refrigerator

Great video. TY. Exactly the same problem with mine. Must be a common problem. I guess its to much torque on the plastic piece. I ended up putting a longer screw and that worked. I did break 1 tab.

Thanks for the rundown. I’m excited to say that I only broke 2 tabs! They were two on the top. If you’re able to learn from my mistakes, just make sure you take the time to work out all of the tabs before yanking out the panel.

Greeting from Australia. I had to fix the ice controller button which had broken and this video was helpful with that task as well as I could see the process for disassembly as well as the switch spring location in the background. A+ thanks!

In your video, the motor arm seems to start in the forward position then push to the back pushing the paddle back and the other pin forward to rotate the arm and open the chute. Any idea what would cause the motor to operate opposite? It starts in the back position, propping the chute open then closes temporarily when you activate the button then returns to the open position.

Great video. On mine, the “standoff” was split so I had to superglue it. Then 2 days after reassembly it broke off completely. Followed the video exactly and so far it’s great. Thanks very much!

This was the same exact failure on my ice maker, and I followed your same fix, by replacing with a #4 1" screw. I used a $3 suction cup from Harbor Freight on the bottom left to start pulling my panel off.

Thank you so much… we have been so frustrated with our LG refrigerator ice maker we were ready to just replace the entire refrigerator… (yes I know a bit excessive of a reaction) Well now we have a functioning ice maker and all is well in the home. Well until the next time an appliance decides it’s time to break again.

You did a great job with this video. Got right to the point without long drawn out chatter and editing the disassembly process with quick motion(I hate watching guys take screws out in real time) Getting ready to do this repair now.

I have this flap issue , BUT I also have a water flow issue. Water flow is good from the pump. Water flow is good going in and coming out of the filter. The ice maker makes ice just fine, but the water coming out of the front dispenser drizzles and then just stops. The motor is still running when the water stops. I am looking for a video or advice on how to get into the water lines inside the door
