I can't believe LG manufactured this washer with the heating element and thermistor so impossibly-buried. An access door would have been wonderful.

It depends on the model. I haven't checked mine yet but the first video I watched had a back pannel and the thermostat was attached separately so there was 5 screws to remove.

THANK YOU!!! I had the manufacturer's repair manual but was pulling my hair out because it was so unclear. This video saved my sanity and allowed me to do the repair myself. I had looked up the error message, Which indicated that yhe thermistor was shot. Super cheap repair, getting the part online. Couldn't have done it without this video. Many thanks!

Helpful video. White wire going to Thermistor connector was broken. Video was helpful for getting to it. Needed more guidance at 2:00-2:10 for getting the panel off - needed to pry it off with fingers - didn't just come off. Needed more guidance and tips for removing and replacing the spring loaded seal holder. Despite the warnings, ended up with a small tear in the seal.

Thanks for this video. It was very helpful. I will make two points/tips:1- before you buy the part pull out the heating element. When I pulled mine out there was all this gunk on it, an accumulation of clothing fibers. I took it off the element and anything else in the chamber. I put the old one back in and everything works fine. 2- when putting back on the rubber gasket with the ring. I find it super helpful to use to paint can opener. Have the spring on the bottom and pull push down on each side as you slide towards the center bottom. That part of the job can be a real pain in the butt. I’ve had my LG Tromm WM 2496 for 12 years. This is my 4th major repair. But it’s starting to rust pretty bad.

On some models, there's a foot and a half by foot and a half access hole under the washer (WM0642HW)! Might want to look under the washer before concluding to take stuff apart. That made the thermistor replacement trivial.

My washer is 12 years old, I just cut an 8 x x10 door hole in the front bottom of the washer to access this heater thermocouple part( So I didn't have to deal with the washer boot). Pull on all of those wires, one at a time, they move and vibrate with the washer drum, and more than one may be broken. None of my wires were broken, just a bad thermocouple/heater unit. Go to McCombs supply to buy the part.

Hi there, I have another update for you. My LG front load washer is still uncovered and running my loads to check for anything that could go wrong. I washed 4 loads in a row the other day. Up through the 3rd load everything was good, no issues. 4th load, I returned to the garage at the end of cycle chime. Opened the door to this burning electrical odor eminating from the Direct Drive motor assembly. The steel cover over the motor assembly was extremely hot to the touch. Perhaps I over loaded it with the *King sized comforter *2 thick towels *2 fluffy bath mats * extra water up to the drain level at the door window The comforter took up the entire drum when first loading the machine. I stuffed the other stuff in there. Once the water came up, the comforter deflated and everything was 1/2 way up the drum. Even still, perhaps everything in the drum was just too much for the motor? This odor occurred just before the original control board fuse blew out. I unplugged the machine just in case. Have you ever heard of this issue at all? I don't know what to do, now. I will start running loads again but won't fill it. Only put in 1/2 way up the drum, supposedly.

Rob Fries Thanks for the update Rob & chances are...you’re spot on! It’s very possible that the machine was slightly overloaded & may have overworked itself during load #4. We love how you explained it! 😆 Here’s our thoughts...load #4 may have taken 1 of its “9 lives” from the Washing Machine however you may find future use to be ok as long as the loads are of a proper...”not too big” size! 😁 That poor washer must have been yelling...”Rob, don’t leave me out here with all this bedding...I can’t handle it in this bulk amount”. 😲😆 It sounds like the washer may still work correctly & efficiently. Definitely keep us posted. We are interested in the next few loads & how it performs! You may want to hang close to the machine during the next few loads to monitor its performance & possibly stop wash cycle if something doesn’t look...or smell...right 😎👍🔧🔩

Hi and good morning, I installed the new control board in my LG frnt ld washer, and figured out why all the repair men wear gloves in the videos. The parts give nasty cuts on the finger tips. The machine turned on and emitted its chime, this is the good part. Today I move out the old top loader machine, and place this one into service. I will remain in front of the washer to observe which part of the cycle it malfunctions in, if it does. The heater element checks out at 14.1 ohms and 014 continuity. The ohms match the caculation results of the heater element which is 120 x 120 /1000watts = 14.1 The thermistor, well, that Ohms out at 53, but decreases as it gets warmer. 98.6 body temp lowered the Ohms to 34.0, so it is not malfunctioning. I did not get to check the water pump, though I cleaned out the filter. That is my update, THx
