I would like to point out some things about Goryeo and King Gongmin just for reference to anyone who’s interested: 1) Goryeo is just two syllables : Go-ryeo, and not three. 2) King Gongmin’s son, Wu Wang’s birth is very debated because of propaganda used by the founder of the next dynasty (Joseon dynasty) to gain legitimacy for basically betraying his King and country. 3) King Gongmin needed another heir so he had his male lovers rape his wives (some unsuccessfully) until the one wife in the video did get pregnant. However, he wanted to hide that fact so sought to kill off his lover/bodyguard and others who knew the truth but they got to him first and died a gruesome death. Really sad that Queen Nuguk died. King Gongmin went mad over her death and this lead to all the other tragedies and the fall of the empire.

These ancient figures did not see themself as gay or saw their sexuality as their "identity", which you can tell by the fact they still married women and had children most of the time. Being infatuated with guys as well (or exclusively), having sexual relationships with them, was simply sth they did and enjoyed without making it a defining factor of who they are!

A lot of people dislike Ferdinand, but it was during his reign that Bulgaria entered a cultural reset. He had a wide variety of interest - botanics, music, poetry, he transformed the capital into an European city, he became the first head of state to fly, the made vaccines a must for children and with that child mortality rates dropped to almost none, the first university opened, the zoo in Sofia at the time was the best in the Balkans. I believe that had we not joined WWI he could have reign until his passing. You see, durring the Balkan wars, Bulgaria had the largest army and was the most active in doing what promised to be done. But things did not turned out how the Bulgarian ministers wanted (bare in mind that Ferdinand did not have a high military rank, so he let the generals and government to lead), so Balkan war 2 happened, which also did not happen as planned. Then WW1 began, with both sides trying to lure Bulgaria to join. And with the bad blood between Bulgaria, Greece and Serbia during that time, it is not surprising which side was joined. Battles were won, the army was almost 1 million men, yet we were on the losing side. Some soldiers rebelled, he had become very unpopular and finally abdicated. His son, Boris did not let him come back to Bulgaria, he outlived two of his children and his final wish to be buried in Bulgaria was not granted. His second wife Eleanor is amazing, but also forgotten or unknown. For her nursing work during the wars, she was invited to visit the USA, which she expected. Sadly her health had become bad and she passed away before the journey.

Well, we weren't told how Vazov died as well, or the personal life of Dora Gabe and Elisaveta Bagriana. I don't see the point of studying somebody's sexuality, after all it was their own business, plus historically looking Ferdinand was probably the worst Tsar nobody wanted him since the beginning and almost three years passed before the world accept him as a Tsar, furthermore, Battenberg was the one who helped Bulgaria uniting in 1885 and if the whole world wasn't against this he wouldn't have to abdicate his position, therefore, the only reason Ferdinand was Tsar at the time we received full autonomy is only because Battenberg abdicated otherwise it could have been any other man the ruler. And if I have to be even more precise his second wife Tsaritsa Eleonora did way more than him for the Bulgarian people, build hospitals, schools, donated to the poor, and was a nurse during the Second World War.

Seems a lot of school faculty in America is still largely people with christian biases. Non-univerity School teachers aren't necessarily often the most people-of-the-worldly or interactive with people outside of their circles. Had a bunch of old ladies and stiffs and super dork teachers in elementary and highschool. Most of them were christian. And a lot of people were also Christian in european history, and monks largely wrote a lot of what we know. Christian monks, so of course they're going to be biased and not exactly always put things that contradict their faith when writing accounts of famous people who are also supposed to be christian, lest they be killed.

@ Lauren, not to mentions so many wrong things taught in schools we have so much to update they'd rather not. So everytime you hear it will change the history books, don't hold your breathe it won't change and the omissions or outright erasure, lies, or wrong credits will still remain.

We have no historical record of Alexander shown as gay. Many english speakers confuse the word philia (friendly love) with eros (sexual love). The Greek language has four words to describe different kinds of love. But the translation in english is always the word love. Hence the confusion.
@katjagolden8932 жыл бұрын
Alex the Great bi-sexuality has been debated a lot. During his time it was common for men to take a male teen as a lover but read a in a few books that it was only frowned up when the man married. A few sources stated that soldiers having sex was a “bonding activity” and happened a lot. My guess too was the fact that these men where off fighting wars far away from home & their wives and had “an itch to scratch.”

Slight error Lindsay: You can tell that the painting was NOT Emperor Ai of Han, because of the painting style, and because the fact that he was wearing a black “winged hat” that is the standard for emperors of The Song Dynasty, roughly 1000 year before us. But the Han dynasty was 1000 years before that. Otherwise a great video🐷

Ferdinand??! A very good leader!?? Hi, a Bulgarian here with decent level of historical knowlege about my country. Lady, do some proper research! No one in Bulgaria thinks of him as a good leader, he dragged Bulgaria into unnecessary wars, strained relationships on the Balkans and practically paved the way single handedly for conflicts for WW2. That he was probably gay is most likely rumor spread by his political opponents. I'm reporting this video for misinformation.

Edward II, Richard III, both of England and both had male lovers. Edward II’s insane pandering and preference for his lovers resulted in his wife raising an army against him and putting their son on the throne - the first ‘wolf queen’ from France. The court didn’t mind so much who he went to bed with, it was his lavish gifts, scorning his wife in public in favour of feeding his lovers from his own plate (including at their wedding dinner) and giving them titles and land that angered the nobility.
