What does it matter who you love, or how you love them, that's a matter for you and them. It's sad that people feel so thgreatened that they have to identify as something in order to feel they belong, when we are all just people, trying to survive and thrive.

Group identity seems to imply everyone in that tribe has to think the same way and everything an individual (remember those?) does or thinks or says has to be predicated on the ethos, values etc. of the 'community.' You're right Scott in that it's boring as hell and ironically seeks to reduce people to stereotypes.

How many labels are attached to you before the alphabet brigade gets to you? Son, brother, cousin, neighbour, classmate, friend, father, basketball player, train spotter, club goer, singer, dancer, shopper, American, westerner, white guy, human being! I know I'm being a little facetious, but that's because it is silly. We could inundate ourselves with labels, but it's not necessary or desirable - even worse having others trying to foist it on you! You do not owe these people any allegiance, just because they say you should. Just do you. By your age, you've earned that right and it's something we should all be doing. These umbrella groups are actually making things worse for everyone!
