They never really pushed the whole marketing until people started hyping the game up. It seemed like the hype came out of nowhere and they did a great job at keeping it up. Lets see if its close to what people are expecting...

So Samurai Shampoo The one thing anyone can say for sure about No Man's Sky is that it is ambitious, so clearly you don't know what that word means.

+AustinofEarth No Man's Sky really isn't that ambitious, considering space exploration games with procedural generation have existed since the 80s. Really the only new thing it claims to have is planetary landings, and even that has been done in a few other games.

At least, Joe Danger didn't have ludicrous hype that essentially make it dead on arrival. NMS could become a really good game, but there's no way it can really match the hype. And with hype this overblown, it will be torn apart, even if it's downright awesome.

Unfortunately Destiny suffers from a tonal crisis. On one hand, it leads you to believe that there's this large, epic story unfolding and all this amazing stuff is happening, but on the other hand you're spending a majority of missions following a waypoint and sitting in a room for 3 minutes while your Ghost unlocks a door. I prefer the Raids, because that has the players engaging in offensive style gameplay as opposed to the defensive style gameplay in the main story missions. If the Raids were main missions and the main missions were Raids, then the game would be better. TL;DR: More Raids, less story missions.

you have a point there. I've seen games that could have been really good with a few updates get canned or abandoned by the devs due to the bad feedback. In most of these cases the devs could have release a slightly better game right off the bat, but the bad publicity turns it into a money sink hole for them, causing them to simply abandon the game as opposed to fixing it.

Sooooo many people are going to be disappointed with No Man's Sky when they find out that it isn't the greatest and biggest game ever to be made by man.
@poposterous236
@poposterous236 8 жыл бұрын
I don't think No Man's Sky will disappoint that much if it's only a mediocre game. What they've done with it is still quite impressive. Star Citizen, on the other hand, needs to fit somewhere in between Half-Life 3 or the second coming of Christ in order to live up to expectations. It looks like they're trying but man, is it a long road. I'm just glad space sim games are back in the mainstream.

Roninakuma My point isn't whether or not it'll be bad, mediocre, good or amazing - my point is that a lot of people have overhyped it and expect it to be the most amazing thing ever. Not all people, but a lot.

Don't confuse promises for personal expectations. That is the problem with gaming in general. People see something new, get hyped for it, and expect one thing that the game never said it was going for.

No Man's Sky is hyped because of the ignorance of mainstream media. Procedural content is neither new(very popular in the old days, for example Elite) nor without many drawbacks. Bur the Hello games played to the hype themselves, so they will have no right to complain when this flops.

I loved Hotline Miami because it gave you a clear sense of what you were doing wrong, made it highly enjoyable to correct those wrongs, and the style of gameplay and near-perfect controls made sure it didn't get infuriating. It's not that I don't like difficulty at all, it's when it's done in an annoying way that I get totally turned off to the game.

Correct! It's the same strategy I use with all sorts of videos related to new releases: when Doom came out this year, I reviewed the old Doom. When SimCity came out in 2013, I made a SimCity retrospective. When Star Wars Episode 7 was about to come out I took a look at X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter. And now that No Man's Sky is coming out, I chose to cover their old games in exactly the same way. My goal with LGR is to stay relevant while also talking about gaming history, whether it's 3 years old or 30 years old!

I bought this game after really enjoying to my own surprise Trials HD. I purchased that game to explore the Indie scene of Xbox live. I was keen to experience what at that stage for me was a refreshing perspective compared to the triple A titles on offer. With Trials I was put off due to the extreme difficulty but after pursuing with it for a while I grew to love it and with Joe Danger I was looking to get more of the same but with a more polished all round experience. After just over an hour I discovered Hello games take on the quick burst pick up and play experience was inferior to the graphically inferior Trials HD. Here's hoping No mans sky lives up to the hype but I have a feeling that it may be a game sold on graphical art style and Sony reacting to the praise it was given when first showcased.

I really hope No Man's Sky isn't hyped out of success when it finally comes out. I'm not counting on it though. I think the mainstream media doesn't understand that procedurally generated games and such aren't new and surprising.

I don't think it matters whether No Man's Sky is good or not at this point, people have already decided how they feel about it and when they finally get to play they will just use that to reinforce their own idea rather than taking it for what it is.

Before Watch Dogs came out people kept talking about how it will bury whole GTA franchise and redefine gaming, before Fallout 4 came out people kept talking about how it will be next role-playing masterpiece of the century. We all know how that turned out. No man's sky will be no different from these games. It's just another overhyped title that shined on E3 but after launch everybody will quickly realise how much the game was stripped off of its promised features.

...wait, but didn't people _like_ Fallout 4? Yeah, it didn't break any ground like it was hyped up to be, but most people I've met enjoyed it.

This is definitely not my style of game. With NMS, we'll just have to see how it goes.

I am kinda glad that I was never really interested in No man's sky. The weird bright neon and pastel colors just looked so cheesy and bad. It just looked too bright to me, the hot pink just hurt my eyes. Seeing as most people love the look of it I know that I am in the minority of people who dislike the games graphics. It might have something to do with me remembering the late 80's/early 90's where hot pink was everywhere.

No Man's Sky looks like the next Hellgate London. As soon as it comes out, it will be instantly forgotten.

Very doubtful. With the size of this came it all depends on the next 24 hours ultimately. By then we will be able to know whether or not this game can truly off something. Or if it is just a repitive game. If it isn't though I am sure this game will do great with that mystery within the game to find the center of the universe.

***** Yes Minecraft also does that. But we don't know what NMS will continue to offer as you progress so far in the game. Will it be repetitive or will you constantly be seeing new things. Who knows

***** Yea based off of what I have seen in the game so far they need to add some type of multiplayer to make sure the game lasts. I think they said they are working on MP as well but not entirely positive.
