I spent many, many years building tuned 1/4 wave resonators and Helmholtz resonators. The factory S2k unit is tuned around 450hz (i forget exactly, but I remember having one in the shop and measured it and did the calculations). Most drones I have measured were between 85-135hz, I'll have seen 150hz on a n/a Porsche race exhaust I once built. What I typically find, is there tends to be 2 typical drones in most performance based exhausts. A firing drone and and a resonate drone. Most of the time, you get one of those with a custom fabricated exhaust. For what its worth, I typically go down 1 to 2 sizes when building a 1/4 wave resonator as its all about the wavelength, not volume. I find it easier to tuck up and away. These days I only use 1/4 wave resonators when there is a mild drone, or even just a tone I or a customer does not find pleasant to tune it right out. I primarily build Helmholtz style resonators now to control strong drone as they have much better effectiveness. I am glad the cut down muffler seemed to solve it for you, often with straight thru mufflers of similar capacity I find one tends to get diminishing results. I think its placement right before the Y is probably why it was more profound. I look forward to more testing results!

What you reckon is ideal place for most cars to have a helmholtz/quarterwave resonator/chamber? Closer to the engine the better? I've seen some attached to mufflers/towards end of car and everything in between motor to the outlet

I love this build series, also love how picky you are with the exhaust. Granted it's rather hard to pick up that drone you're referring to at 2100 rpms still badass nonetheless.

@ 2:41 the air box is a restriction. 4 to 6 inches of area may need to be relieved. In 2006 I was with FoMoCo, and a trained Master Technician with SVT credentials. SVT development was slow at the time. So that netted a perfect opportunity to sample performance upgrades from several sources and these keeping OEM warranties. Saleen developed a bolt on 100hp and 180hp kit for the 3v mustangs. 200hp could be achieved after I took 8 square inches from the bottom and one side of the factory air box. I bet that will be necessary here too. Back to the regularly scheduled video....

Amazing work, as always. The S2000 is yet another awesome car, that I can never own. I just don't fit. The cruel irony being that my daily driver is a 5M GD3 Fit, which I love. Hopefully, someday, I can bring it to y'all to have you work your magic on an exhaust for me/it!

Great video. My S is hibernating and avoiding salty roads in Manchester, England. Also at £630 / year tax being a 2006 model, if I just tax it for 6 months it halves that pain! Curious to see the new power gains in pt3

Just take the lid off the box. More air and you hear it.
@LHTPerformance Жыл бұрын
The whole idea of the air box is to maintain the OEM look, also provide lower intake temps. If I was to remove the lid, I may as well remove the box ? You might be missing what I’m trying to do here.
