About time you did a video on Gravity Rush. This series deserves better. The fact that Sony abandoned it for the sake of going after live service games is disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. I love Gravity Rush. My first exposure was of all things, the PlayStation Vita. I'm thankful that we got a remaster of Gravity Rush on PS4. I still need to get the platinum and I love every bit of it. The sequel though... even better. We may not ever get a third game but I feel that it was satisfying that it got to tell it's story. First off, thank you for doing this video on Gravity Rush. Second, fuck Sony for abandoning this series. Abandoning it for the sake of moving towards live action slop & for shutting down Japan Studio. Third, I really need to get back to platinuming both Gravity Rush games.

I mean, heck... Team Asobi (creators of Astro Bot, GOTY 2024 according to TGA) was made from ashes of Team Japan. And that small ember left to make "Demo games for new PS gear" with way smaller budget burned way brighter with Astro Bot than any of Live Service games Sony made... Especially Concord that literally DIED the same week Astro Bot (w/ almost no marketing) got released. Just another reminder that Sony wasted EIGHT FRICKIN YEARS AND HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS ON TOO MANY LIVE SERVICE GAMES... While also WASTING TALENTS of studios like Blue Point or creators of "Days Gone" to make live service when one is amazing at remasters and the other had potential and amazing technical skill for game optimisation... Their time? WASTED. While also rejecting proposals like "Infamous X Prototype" crossovers... Heck, where are Infamous series? It was PS3 system seller! But, no, let's waste 8 year FOR NOTHING. Idiots. Corporate IDIOTS.

Not sure if you noticed, but there's also some symbolism of Kat fighting against the "realms" of earth, heaven, and hell. With the lost city/neu hiraleon being earth, Kali Angel's mutated form being heaven, and Destuctive force/final boss being hell. Not sure if it was intentional or not, but its cool regardless.

I remember once asking Gravity Rush’s devs on Twitter if it would be at all possible to port the games to Switch. They responded by saying they didn’t know who exactly had the rights to the IP, whether it was the dev studio or Sony. I responded with “it wouldn’t hurt to ask someone who would know, would it?” to which they replied something along the lines of “we all have social anxiety here” I still think about that interaction sometimes

My favorite moment in this series is when you wake up back in Heckseville in Gravity Rush 2 and then Kat realizes where you are and then the screen says "Chapter 3 Heckseville" and then the Heckseville theme starts playing. I almost felt like crying. I played 1 and 2 back to back so its not like I had any nostalgia for it, however waking up back in Heckseville captured that perfect comfy feeling of coming home and the sudden nostalgia of seeing an old friend or family you have not seen in a while.

Immediately popped off. Gravity Rush 1 was for the longest time my only platinum trophy because, I was never an achievement Hunter, but goddamn I spent so many fun hour doing the time trials that I forgot that it was a requirement. Returning to home never felt so good, because I didn’t expect the length. There’s essentially 3 acts in the GR2 and each feel like they could have been sequels on their own given the first’s structure.

This part blew my mind. I couldn't believe the entire of Heckseville was in Gravity Rush 2 which was already massive. Gravity Rush is one of those games that's awesome to play, but you don't even need to play it to become a steadfast fan. You can watch the protagonist's dialogue, look at the game's art, listen to it's score, and imagine flying through the air, because what really makes Gravity Rush special is it's identity and the way it feels

@@antiquecardboard That's kinda how i feel about the Zeno Clash series. Likewise wonderful and interesting series with weird clumsiness and jank to it, that deserves to be a lot more known. 31:59 I'm gonna butcher the quote, but there's also this line about the black hole (essentially what it is) at the bottom of the world pillar (I think you get it from "couple lost in time" sidequest in GR1): "There is a dark ocean at the bottom of the world. Each day it rises by 5cm. Its rise can't be halted". That and the final song basically going "everything and everyone will die" really made playing through GR2 have this constant existential unease.

I still haven't been able to play GR2, here where I live, one can't just choose to buy a whole new console just to play one singular game, even though it is the only game you're truly interested in, I'm still hoping for a PC port, maybe with the movie, I'd buy not only both games, even though I have a Vita and just recently completed my third playthrough of GR1, this time without upgrading once, but I'd buy them for all of my friends, no questions asked; Gravity Rush looks like it plays like a dream, something you can't grasp enough just by looking that it actually is real, it feels like I'm also one of the creators of this world, and Gravity Rush 2, and everyone's experiences with it, is something I specifically dreamt about, and the moment I touch this game, the second I'd be able to play it, I'd wake up and realize it was just a dream, it feels just so far out of reach and so impossible to exist, like, how can a game look, play and be like that? Gravity Rush has 19 save slots, I'd 100% complete all 19 slots for a chance to play through completion Gravity Rush 2 once, that's how much I want to play GR2, I cannot even begin to tell you how serious I am, hopefully PS4 emulation will quickly and perfectly solve this dream of mine, but it would also be a shame to play this one specifically game as anything but an oficial release, almost like Kid Icarus Uprising actually, I must have over 100 hours of that game already, and I still can't believe its a real game that I've played to completion, there's a couple of other examples that I can think of, but none as far of my reach as Gravity Rush 2, I truly hope to play it one day, and if/when that day comes, whoever wakes me up will be just SOOOOOOOOOOOO FUCKED.

I heard of “Gravity Rush” thanks to Kat being a DLC character in “PlayStation All-Stars” back in 2013. After that, I bought a Vita just for that game. Needless to say, this series left a huge impact on me. The first game inspired me to blog as my first post was a review on the game. The second game inspired me to make fan art. Just three years ago, to celebrate the series’ 10th anniversary, I made an art prompt, drawing several characters in the series. “Gravity Rush” is a duology that I will continue to adore for years to come.

Not too long ago, around the release of Astro Bot. One of the bots I came across were that of Kat and Raven, dubbed the “Gravity Shifter” and “Defender of Hekseville.” I took to a friend who had a love for this franchise growing up, wanting to learn more about these characters. After he told me about the setting, characters and art direction, I was able to tackle both games not too long after thanks to an ongoing sale on PS5’s Digital Store. With how little I knew about how where the narrative would go, and only some relative outsider knowledge, I can safely say this was an INCREDIBLE experience unlike anything I’ve seen before! It quickly became not just one of my favorite PlayStation games, but one of my all time favorite gems. I wish Sony made it more accessible to people outside of it being an exclusive to the PS Brand, because it’s such a treat I’d highly recommend to anyone.

I remember going to pick it up day one and I finished it in one day. I was simply unable to put it down and it’s one of the few games that has ever accomplished that. There’s something incredibly magical about it. There’s an incredible balance of attention to detail, and being fantastical while still being grounded. Offering both a challenge to the player, while driving improvement to see how the story progresses. There’s a very incredibly cohesive vision here, from the art to the music to the characters and gameplay, to the mythos around it all.

One interpretation with Kat, Raven, and gravity is how it can attract or push objects. Gravity is a force that can attract things where it pulls you towards its orbit. Kat, through her altruism, attracts people towards her, which is shown through her powers, personality, and action. Raven can be seen as a foil to that where she pushes people away but does develop more as a character that may attract people too.

the gravity Rush Duology is quite possibly some of my favorite games over all time, I could gush about these games for so long but I don't know many who have played the games but when I finished GR2 I actually teared up a bit, the game reached it's peak did everything i wanted it to do I actually insisted with my friends this game doesn't need any more sequels but at the same time the world was so cool and the stuff you explore in 2 was also so good, I wanted to explore this world forever. and funnily enough GR2 came out a time where I was processing the disappointment I was feeling when Final Fantasy XV when it just launched 2 months before GR2 GR2 did everything I was kinda expecting XV to do in a sense. the first game felt short but now watching this video it makes sense as they had to scrap most of it and save it for 2 so in a way it's a great prologue, then there's the anime special set between GR1 and 2 which was a fun way to expand on the world of GR then GR2 came out and capped everything in a great way I was keen for XV because the movie, anime tie ins with all this supplementary material made me think XV was gonna be this huge massive epic (obviously I found out later on how rough it's development was) but it fell short and sadly didn't get a proper conclusion and gravity rush kinda showed up had 2 games, a small anime tie in and had a proper conclusion. I just knew 2017 was gonna be an amazing year for games (spoilers it was)

Haven’t finished the video yet, but one thing I feel this game really captures is something that was mentioned during the GR1 section with the whole “not looking too anime” thing. That this game captures the same vibes I get from anime inspired shows from the west (ATLA, TT) or at least not from Asia (Code Lykoko, Totally Spies, etc.) in that it feels like it shares a similar look to them? Perhaps it’s because of the comic book inspirations in there, but that’s how I feel and I honestly don’t think there’s any other game that has done that aside from Hi-Fi Rush.

Supposedly there is a Gravity Rush movie in the works I feel like the magic of the gameplay isn’t exactly something that can be recaptured in a movie, but the animated shorts that were made around the sequel’s release were delightful, so maybe they’ll be able to pull it off. I hope that a movie is able to drum up enough interest in the games that we get a third one.

I need to finally play through GR2. I started it straight afterwards 1 and got tired, but I genuinely love those games

Really appreciate the attention you're giving this series after all these years. Its story and gameplay are simply lovely, and I want a sequel even though it won't be a huge hit. Sony needs to figure out a way to make smaller games profitable even if they don't sell like gangbusters.

This game is so unique and so much fun. It's so regrettable to me that it originally released on Vita which had such a small audience. I didn't play it till it released on PS4 but I knew it was special before playing and by the end of the adventure I still stand by that. Gravity Rush deserved better and I hope more people will play it in the future.

I love Kat too she's my favorite Playstation character ever. I can't express how badly I wish Gravity Rush 2 would get a remaster. Also maybe a Gravity Rush 3....?

This game is just the best. Both of them, really. So fun. Kat is one of my absolute favorite characters in all of fiction!

Looking forward to watching this over the weekend. It's a series I was always interested in, but never could play due to not having the platforms it's on. But it still stays on my mind cause of that incredible ost. I am happy to see that the PS4 versions are compatible with the PS5, if I happen to get around to grabbing one (PC port would be a bit more ideal for me though at the moment 😉 )

The team that created Gravity Rush I would love it if they had enough money to buy the IP in the rights from Sony so that way we can see your Gravity Rush 3 everywhere

Thank you for making this video. GR2 is my favorite game on ps4, and Kat is my favorite female protagonist of all media. You introduce them well❤.
