Lauren, The actual install at fast forward speed with your commentary is a great idea and makes for a very good presentation. I'm looking forward to seeing more builds of this nature from TastyPCTV. Also like the new fashion look, has a nice tech feel to it. Some of your sponsors should supply you with a clothing line so you can advertise for them. Keep up the great work on your reviews.... :)

Facing the way I had it it draws cool air from the gap between the PSU and the side panel. The graphics card used it this video doesn't exhaust out of the back (although it has vents making you think it does). It dumps ALL the heat into the case. There is two case exhaust fans just above the GPU in this tiny case that will have no issue taking the heat out. There's no reason to make the PSU work harder. The hotter a PSU is the louder the fan and the lower the efficiency.

Good review Lauren. I'm a fan of Lian Li cases aside from their price but I like how it seems your reviews are getting more in-depth. Nice work : )

My case isn't out anymore so all I can say is that it has a max CPU cooler height of 120mm. I put my PSU that way around because I knew it was going to be touching the GPU and wanted to have to slide the flat side of the PSU against it instead of the grill. Plus the 2 intake and 2 exhaust case fans are more then enough to deal with the 580's heat.

Corsair cases are amazing (I have the 800D, 3x 600T, and a C70) and would highly recommend them. However Corsair cases feel mass produced and like each case takes no time to manufacture. Lian Li cases feel like someone has taken hours to make with the finest materials/finish. Obviously I have no idea how long each case actually takes to make (I'm sure Lian Li's take very little time as well) but that's just how they make me feel. Lian Li's finish is the best I've ever owned.

As with most cases you can mount the psu either way. I didn't want it getting the gpu's hot air.
@TastyPC
@TastyPC 12 жыл бұрын
It's not the wrong way around but so many of you seem to think it is. :( As with most cases it can be mounted either way, but if you want to go with a right and wrong way, the way I've mounted it would be the right way. Not only because there's 0mm space between the GPU and the PSU on the other side (which is less then 10mm) but because this is the way Lian Li mount the PSU on their website, and I think they get the deciding say.

Personally, I'd have a GTX680 but the 670 is pretty close in performance and much cheaper so that's what I'd recommend to the average gamer who's aiming higher then the 660ti. This is just personal preference though, check out some benchmarks and listen to other opinions before making the decision that's right for you :) Good luck with your first build, feel free to post pics on the TastyPC Facebook page.

Can you remove the fans with both hd racks in? Yes cable management with Lian li is a problem is the small case's. But i don get this case. The psu is blocking the slots so you can't easy swap pci cards. So i you want a small case just take a microatx case like mine Lian li PC-A04B. The large amount of hd space and ssd mounting option are awesome! :)

Lauren, You mentioned that you can only out in a 120mm height cpu cooler. is it because it would interfere with the PSU? I am thinking about putting a Noctua NH-C12P SE14 140mm SSO CPU Cooler in my system. In its spec it says the height of the cooler is 114mm. Do you think that would be a problem? Eddy
@TastyPC
@TastyPC 12 жыл бұрын
The other way around there's a few problems. The bottom area of the PSU fan has to fight with the conflicting GPU intake fans. They both want to suck in the same air. The middle area of the PSU fan is blocked off by the side of the GPU. Zero airflow there. And The top area of the PSU fan receives very warm air from the GPU. There's not a single part of the PSU fan that would be more efficient the other way around. Even then, this overkill PSU would run passive 90% of the time in this rig anyway.
@Scious
@Scious 12 жыл бұрын
Just a couple of questions. Do you think it is possible to fit a small tower cooler something similar to a hyper 212 when mounted horizontally? Why didn't you mount the powersupply so it could exhaust warm air from the graphics card?

Nice review Lauren. However I think the PSU fan should be mounted inwards to help scavenge GPU exhaust out towards the back.

Why do you say you can only mount 120mm cpu coolers ? you have 40mm from the io plate + 120 from the rear fan and then a bit beyond that. You should get around 180mm of clu clearance no ?

Thx 4 the review Lauren... Nice attempt on the part of Lian li for a smaller, good looking, full motherboard case. If you're a single graphics card, non-overclocking user, it might work.. and I might add, air would be pulled over the graphics card and exausted through the power supply. If however, you intend on running multiple graphics cards and/or need to mount a large CPU cooler, you really should be looking at a bigger case with better airflow anyway. Keep up the great work...
@jublywubly

Great case review. Thanks Lauren. :-) One major concern I'd have with using one of those cases is the lack of air intake grill on the side panel, next to the power supply. In warmer climates, it would likely cause the PSU to overheat. Other than that, and the other couple of concerns you mentioned, it seems like a very well thought out case. I'm surprised how much can be fitted into a case of that size. :-)

I still don't understand why people are fighting with me one this one. The PSU can be mounted either way, just like most cases. There is no wrong or right choice Let me ask something to all of you who feel it's the wrong way. A) In a case where Lian-Li are trying to make as small as possible. Why put a gap between the PSU and the Case. Why not have them touching and make it smaller or give GPU more room. PSU Airflow maybe? B) Why advertise the case with the PSU this way on their site? Use Logic

Lian Li makes good cases. I'm still using 2 Lian-Li PC-65B mid-tower cases from 2004, they're getting long in the tooth though. I'm thinking of building a new rig using the SilverStone Temjin Series TJ08B-E Black Mini Tower Case, have you or will you review this case? Thanks for the video.
@TastyPC

I prefer it this way around, there is still enough room in between it and the side panel for heat not to be an issue and I'd rather its fan wasn't literally touching that 580.

I deleted the whole convo with him just because once someone gets into irrational troll mode there's normally no turning them back to sanity. Some people just don't understand. I pride myself on my honestly when reviewing products whether they've been provided or if I've purchased them myself. In fact I rarely even talk to the manufacturer again until the video is done. Not playing EVE right now, just don't get the time :(

Regarding the durability of the Lian Li anodizing finish: I have a PC-343B which has been in continuous use for the past 5 years. Scratching hasn't really turned out to be much of an issue, but the oils on the human skin sort of etch into the finish if you don't wipe off the fingerprints quickly enough, and then they're pretty much impossible to get rid off.

Great review as always :) I looked up the msrp on this case and saw that its $229 US. I realize Lian li is well regarded for thier cases and quality. but with such a weird configuration and what looks to be bad airflow and cable management, where do they get off charging such a price for a case? especially a smaller one like this? Maybe its just me but I just don't get it. do you have insight i'm missing? Thanks for all your effort and keep it up ! :)

It's kind of meant to act as an exhaust fan too, though. The components aren't too heat sensitive, they're just not as efficient at higher temperature, but the air going into them won't be enormous as the gpus will dump most of their hot air at the back anyway... won't this just cause it to draw air from the side of the case, where the panel is?

i look at it this way, if your psu is pulling air out and your gpu is pulling it in the other way the two fans will be contradicting themselves so your case may get hotter because of it. so by having the power supply facing this way prevents other cooling issues

This case was always going to be a compromise in some areas given how small it is and the hardware you can install in it. If you think that other manufacturers would have a similar sized case and only be able to fit an matx or mitx board, it's amazing what Lian Li have been able to do. It's a shame that there isn't much space for the PSU cables but it's one of those compromises that people can overlook if they need such a small case. The alternative is the V700 which places the PSU at the front.

Props for being a (former)? EVE player. Best time as any to get back in the game, revamped FW and two huge regional Bloc wars churning in nullsec. T1 frigates have gotten huge buffs and are a blast to fly now(plus cheap). CCP has been on top of their game the past year or so.

Seems like a nice posibility for a GHTPC. I see this being a good alternative for a µATX LGA1155 build (3750k with H80 and the fan swapped out?) with something like a AMD 77xx or Nvidia 650/660 card, a dedicated sound card, an SSD, and a few TB of storage. It seems to have a high WAF (wife acceptance factor), and given the right use of cooling could be quiet enough for a living room.

If you would like to give feedback on woman's make-up choices, then there are other channels for that. This is a channel about PC parts. so your comments are misplaced.
