Next time you're picking out caterpillars by hand, do it at night and use a blacklight (just a little flashlight one will do). They glow under black lights so they're easier to spot

@@Liap One time, bad soil. The second one, the starters didn't get enough light since I was only growing them by a window. I'm going to sow them as soon as I get the seeds outdoors this time, and I think I should have more than enough time before our first frost.... and even then, they only get better after a bit of cold!

Yes this plant thrives in cool weather and requires long growing period, but there are varieties that grow faster, maybe give it a try, I mean nothing to lose 😇 it might be possible during winter season, in a spot with morning sunlight and shade when the sun gets stronger. Thank you for comment 🙏🍀

Because of the hot weather? I think you should give it a try, start them in October and find them a spot with morning sun and shade in afternoon. Yes, there are clear signs of boron deficiency when I am harvesting sprouts. This happens quite often when growing brussels sprouts in container, especially this small container.

Great you have some growing right now, how are they doing under the growlight? Any idea why the last year was not succesful? The pot size I used for these was almost 10 liter (2.6 gal). I am saying it in the video, but you might not recognize it - I am not native English speaker 😳 Though, if you want to grow these plants in containers and get bigger plants with much better yield, I'd suggest you use 5 gallon size containers. I get some of those huge cow protein pots that hold 200lbs of molasses. I get some for free from the ranchers and other charge 1.50 a pot. I can stick 3 okra plants in 1 pot and they will produce like crazy. I got Brussel sprouts, broccoli, chard, and others going. I also started them off with large hanging T5 grow lights.

Brussels sprouts are biennials, means their life cycle is 2 years. On the second year they flower and produce seeds, so yes it is normal 🙂

No, I don’t. You can remove the very top of the plant in september or october, roughly 3-4 weeks bedore harvest. The plant will then put more energy in to growing sprouts instead of growing taller. But I grow brussels sprouts throughout the winter in garden and I am harvesting them regulary, not all at one harvest. So that is why 🙂 hope this helps you!

Also, all cole crops are same species and will cross with each other. So in order to have the same plant, You must ensure that only the same type of plants are flowering at the time.

Hello Candice! Give them some more time. These plants require long time until they can be productive, especially in the winter when days are much shorter (assuming you live in mild winter area). There might not be anything wrong, just be patient. brussels sprouts will grow almost to their final height at first and then start being productive. If your ones are good size and healthy green, they will grow you some yield for sure! Good luck 🍀

Hello, yes You can start seeds in seedling trays and thin seedlings to one per cell, and when they have 4-6 true leaves transplant them into container. If You have some small size variety 15 liter size, otherwise 20.

You can plant them earlier, i grow mines from may sometimes even april and we have pretty hot summers over here too. They will get some size and in the autumn they really start to shine 🙂 brussels sprouts need quite long time to produce solid yield. Atleast that is my experience and that´s why I plant them earlier.

Yop, I still grow some in garden and I am regulary getting rid of wilted leaves damaged by frost. Though, If you have some frost damage on little ones, just harvest them whenever you want. The outer leaves will protect the whole "ball", even if surface is yellow and not looking healthy, it's going to be alright once you peel off the outer leaves.

It is enough time. Brussels sprouts dont grow very well in hot weather, but once it cools down it will grow much faster. Depends on the area where you live, if it's too hot during the summer, the "85 days" will take a little bit longer 🙂

Yes, as the plant grows it tends to get rid of bottom leaves, so I help it regulary.

Here in Europe it’s quite common vegetable, so it’s pretty much in every garden shop. Also it’s available online. Where are you from?

Well I can't say for sure, but I would suggest you start them in october and grow them during winter time. Try to find them a spot with morning sun and shade when the sun is at it's strongest. There are also quicker-maturing varieties which have been created for warmer locations. I know some people grow these plants in Florida during winter months succesfully. You should give it a try, there is nothing to lose and I would love to hear from you about results 😉 Good luck!
