I’ve been a professional gardener for 20 years and have used Stihl strimmers for many years. The lugs were definitely engaged on both my heads that failed. It clicks into place firmly but simply pulls off very easily.

I take it that you have watched this video. It looks like something is preventing the the lugs going all the way home. Could you get some pictures of where they go into the other half of the head? I suspect there is some moulding flash that should not be there. Many thanks for watching!

@@BensWorkshop yes I have watched it. I will add some photos to the folder tomorrow. It’s stored in my lock up unit at the moment. Do you know the thread size by any chance? I want to buy a replacement head.

I do: it's M10 x 1.25, left handed thread. Many thanks. You can see in this video how the bit with the lug on it sits when not engaged, and where it sits when it is all the way in. From your video, it looks like thee lugs are not fully engaging. I would be interested in a picture from an angle of the lugs when in, as well as a picture of the bottom. I suspect something is preventing the lugs from engaging. I can't pull mine off like you can at all.

I had the same defect on mine (luckily I noticed it before first operation), exactly as you guessed, one of the lugs/hooks we're bent inwards, enough that they didn't catch fully. Fudged it by wedging something inside to force the lug outwards. So far so good after 10 or so uses of the machine.

I have one of these. It popped once and I never saw the spring again. Packed the space where the spring was with an old kitchen sponge, works fine since. Have to open it to feed the reel out though. I plan to replace it completely, hard to find replacement reel, closest I got was 2mm.

Interesting fix. The one I found but have not bought was this one: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B089NQBMNN/?coliid=IEYAQAEUZ3PIY&colid=5X5HSLDJMO93&psc=1&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it If you read the comments of these videos on part 2, you can see I recommended it there and the chap ho bought one seems happy with it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jH3RhKuQf9RqbJo Many thanks for watching, please like, share and if you like the channel, subscribe!

Yes, but if it is a moulding issue, it can probably be fixed. Many thanks for watching!

It's always tricky when someone asks you to diagnose their problem when it's not there in front of you - your suggestions of either malformed locking lugs or sprue seem pretty possible, OR incorrectly assembled or not pushed fully back together. If the cover has had some abuse and one of those locking lugs has got cracked, that would cause it to let go. Are those metal inserts that the line goes through a removable part? On one of my petrol strimmers, they can be removed and replaced upside down, and then the cover doesn't go on correctly. Also, if the line is sitting incorrectly (such as a piece tucked under the reel), can it cause the whole thing not to press together enough for the lugs to lock? Don't worry Ben, I don't expect you to answer this, I'm merely scribbling my thoughts in case they can help someone else.

All very good points. I suspect it is either a mold flash issue or an assembly issue, but we can't say until I see pictures or videos. Many thanks for watching!

Had the same issue with the strimmer head. If you bend the tabs outward it catches fine. Never had a. Issue since

Great video thanks for posting! I’m having a different issue regarding the strimmer head. I can’t unscrew the bloody thing from the unit! I’ve tried (as per instructions) to insert an Allen key into the spindle and turn clockwise but it won’t unscrew…(even tried anti clockwise) So I’m unable to change to a different tool like the blade grass mower etc I noticed on your unit in the video, your strimmer head spins freely when not turned on. That isn’t the same for me. My strimmer head is extremely stiff and has to be forcefully turned. Maybe I screwed too far when initially putting it onto the unit? I should mention I have the 3 in 1 petrol grass trimmer ( PBS 2 D4) so it slightly different but the fittings look exactly the same in your videos. If anyone has any advice it would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

If the head is stiff when off the power head I suspect the head may need lubrication. The thread that holds the head on to the unit has to be a left hand thread otherwise it would come undone in use. Many thanks for watching, please like share and if you like the channel, subscribe!

@@BensWorkshop Thanks for replying. I’ll give it another try first thing in the morning. Hopefully with your advice it will start to unscrew. I was even thinking of snapping it off and just try ordering another spool case from somewhere online… that’s my last resort though lol Again, much appreciate your response.
@BensWorkshop
@BensWorkshop 4 ай бұрын
It should unscrew. If it has a blade that can go on then it will also have a nut from which you can confirm that it is a left handed thread.

eyup Ben Nice review showing the strimmer head, 👍👍👍👍👍👍atb with it!. also i have never bought a strimmer that works properly on the line release, tried numerous makes and models over the years and given up on them, i now use the traditional long handled lawn edging shears, can't beat old school technology, by the time it took me to piss about with the strimmer line mechanism i have the edges of lawn cut manually, so i won't be investing in anymore strimmers, that's just me i know others may have a different experience, Okay Ben i just got off my strimmer soap box, and feel better to get that off my chest🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😉😉😉😉👍👍 bfn Kev

Any idea how to re-spool the line as all the vids ive watched show them starting to re-spool with the line through a hole. Well there is no hole on my spool. Help please. It is the parkside 4-1 petrol as you have on this video.

I would say a lot of the problems is where you put the D handle.. the strimmer head shotbe level.. ao when uoy hit the button the outside should not hit the ground..

Most annoying. I have a Ryobi strimmer and the auto feed of the head can be very frustrating. I don't think mine is faulty but I'm fairly sure I am. Is there a particular method for winding the string on? Thanks Ben, good vid mate.
@BensWorkshop
@BensWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Yes, there is, though the finer points vary a little depending on type of head. Th key is to not wind it too tight. Many thanks for watching Mark!

@@BensWorkshop That certainly makes sense. I'll try rewinding my spool this afternoon. I take it everyone knows this 'trick' about soaking the string in water for a while to make it more supple? I can't really think why it works but some folks swear by it.

I will go and check in a bit, but it looks like an M14 x 1.5 left hand thread. It isn't, it's M10 x 1.25, left handed thread.

It's M10 x 1.25, left handed thread. (Measures just under 10mm in diameter and the thread gauge says it is 1.25 pitch)

@@BensWorkshop I have a petrol Parkside strimmer with the same head that I use for cutting grass. That head came with the multitool so Ive only used it a few times. Only problem I could see with it coming apart is the spring possibility being to weak on some heads and when force is given to extend the trimmer wire its opening.
