I'm 71 years old, never listened to metal because I could not understand the lyrics. In was incomprehensible. With Dan I can understand what he's saying even when he screams. It opened a whole New World.

i was stunned the first time I heard this. This incredible performance displays a few more voices of the Man with a Thousand Voices. I think this is one of Dan's most brilliant covers. I'm super glad he did it--and that you reacted to it! He has said he probably wouldn't do it now because he doesn't like the lyrics (he said they were "cringe-y"). I think him not doing it would have been a real shame.

I remember in the early days of KZbin it seemed like everyone was making videos using this song with footage from Brenden Fraser's "The Mummy." I think that's why Peter Hollens used it with the mummy character in his Epic Halloween Medley. Anyway. This version is fantastic! I think it's my favorite I've heard Dan do! I like it every bit as much as the original, possibly even a smidge more! It would be interesting to put them together and see how it sounds. Like Bryan Fernando Velez Flores did with Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga with "Marry The Night." Which you should also react to, if copyright permits.

He also sings My Immortal and it is just beautiful as well as powerful. For a different sound from Dan, try his operatic style in Nessun Dorma and his brilliant showmanship in The Music of the Night from Phantom of the Opera, and in Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar. Excellent reaction! I felt the same way I watched this one. After the first time, I watch it quite often, and every time I love it more. Now that you've already reacted to "O Holy Night," and heard THAT growl, at the particular spot where it was placed ("Let all that is within us..."), connect it to Dan's first growl in this one (Wake me UP! I can't wake up!). After hearing "Bring Me to Life" twice through, I went to hear Amy Lee's version, and then to find her testimony about it. In short, her husband (who wasn't, back then), helped her get out of the terrible, abusive relationship she had been in and couldn't seem to get out of. It's a very poignant (and in the end, victorious) story.
