Everyone bitching about how shitty the dodge is really don't understand that guard/perfect guards are what the game is built around. I feel like it comes from people constantly comparing it to Bloodborne, so everyone that plays it goes "What the fuck. This doesn't play anything like Bloodborne." The same shit happened with Nioh and Nioh 2 when people kept calling it 'Dark Souls, but in Japan.'
@JerpDoesGames
@JerpDoesGames Жыл бұрын
I still think the dodge has its use and the game accommodates a dodge-focused play style with no/minimal parries or guards. The rapier in particular with its huge movement on running attacks and the standing R2 backdash afford a ridiculous amount of movement (on top of the lower weight helping enable lighter rolls). However, you can't play nearly as reckless and sloppy as in many of From's games, and you're forced to utilize a wider variety of your weapon/build's moveset than just R1 and roll.
@LessDevoid
@LessDevoid Жыл бұрын
@@JerpDoesGames The rapier really does shine when it comes to mobility and I swear it has faster guard timing, but that's probably just my imagination. The guard-based rally is another system I don't see being discussed enough. It works really well if you're even trying to perfect guard and gives you a chance to learn attack tells and patterns.

Thanks to my vision being slightly unfocused at the time, I realized that you actually CAN read the stuff the parade master is saying! At 1:03:47 if you squint a bit you can read the letters better: "Come on in, we have been waiting!" at 1:04:45 , I think it's "bad children get the switch!" although there's some letters that don't match up right like w doesn't look at all like it should. at 1:05:55 I'm having a hard time with it, though. The first part is maybe "now he shall be happy," , but the second half I can't figure out or even guess at. So some of the letters vaguely look right, but others are way off, it seems? That or I'm imagining the similarities entirely and just guessing wildly. Sorry if later in the video this comes up again, I just wanted to share what I saw.

The discussion on this game being "Just bloodborne" or "just a souls ripoff" is painfully remniscent of the multi-year period where every single first-person shooter was just "a doom clone." SOULSLIKE IS A GENRE, NUMBSKULLS.

I think it's more like, From's specific subgenre of Souls-like is now being recognized and understood well enough to have more excellent games there, rather than stuff that's in an outer circle of games (that we more commonly recognize as a Souls-like -- Code Vein, Mortal Shell, etc.) that are somewhat reminiscent of a From game (and often good in their own right), but don't quite scratch the specific itch.

I only had two problems with the demo: full game needs respec, and the popup texts need to stay on screen much longer. This isn't really a problem since we don't have the full game but I would like more weapon variety. It's mostly just range and swing patterns that're different, a little limited I'd say, but again we don't have the full game yet. Everything else was cool as hell and immaculate. The dodge complaint people have is fixed with P-organ unlocks so it's fine for now though I much prefer the block/parry. Plus I'm interested to see the direction the story takes. Is it Nier Automata, is it Robocop, or is it a totally different Pinocchio-themed twist? I'm excited.

I did the demo again and always told the truth. Hotel Krat's security system will keep telling you to go away if you say you're a puppet, so the first lie is mandatory. Telling the quarantined lady that their baby is a puppet doll will get you an Ergo consumable, but not the "Feel" record. So in terms of gameplay, lying is the expected route to get the most stuff, but it's unclear if its always good for other characters.

Played this demo yesterday myself, it’s pretty good! I did have some issues with the combat, felt a little stiff at times but once I got used to blocking and perfect blocking it started to feel better. I think a lot of my issues may get solved with the upgrade system they introduce at the end of the demo, the upgraded dodge felt so much better, like I could actually get some distance out of it now. I like that you can recharge a healing cell by attacking enemies, makes it feel less like a hopeless run when you run out of heals like in other souls games. The weapon combinations seems interesting but I personally didn’t get much use out of it in the demo, so hopefully the full game will utilise it better. Overall excited to see how it turns out!

I got great mileage out of putting the great sword blade on the rapier handle. I really hope that in the full game they explain some things better. Being able to easily know what the Fable Arts actually do would be nice, so would the fact that weapon handles determine the moveset instead of the blade.
@Just_Matty

@@LessDevoid What I like about the weapon assembly system in particular is that attaching the biggest, most powerful blade you have to the fastest moveset isn't necessarily the best thing to do. The larger the blade, the more stamina it eats through -- it's a really neat idea.

@@ricardomiles2957 Might be why I bounced off so hard; didn't play Sekiro and have little desire to ever try it. (which instead encourages super passive play) I'm also really not a fan of the perfect block timing as your main defensive option. And then, I played the demo long enough to get to the handle/blade mixing mechanic to swap that *god-awful* parry move off my Rapier moveset (seriously, why would you make a parry with that much startup?) only to find out the mix-and-matching is just handle = moveset, blade = damage scaling.
