It was definitely too big for the baby to eat. Although birds have a glottis, which helps them breath when they eat big things, this dragonfly probably was pushing against the glottis and preventing the baby from breathing. All is well though thanks to quick action by the uploader 👍🏻

Beautifully done. That poor baby that was aspirating that dragonfly made my heart sink. Great save!! That was a pretty scary and difficult to watch him struggle like that was hard on my tender for birdies heart. I have raised, rescued and released/reunited/rehomed abused and abandoned, wild, etc...many a birdies in my 35+ years of experience with having sweet tweets in my life. The more that I have had the honor of getting to know true miracles, amazing transformations and when it's sadly time to let go, these amazing beings belong in the wild and do NOT belong in cages for our selfish entertainment. I have learned so much from each and every experience with these mighty and beautiful souls.

We have a twelve room palace for them equipped with a satellite dish (a mini one) for those rainy days! I live in southern Saskatchewan (Canada) and they should arrive any day now!! I was amazed at how you could actually touch them and the parents continued to care for them. I had thought that the human scent would have been a negative factor.

the dramatic (AND effective) music/tempo change at moments like when one of the babies almost choked to death and got resuscitated.. and that sudden predatory larger bird "attack".. immediately made me subscribe to **Purple Martin Conservation** :) and i don't know whether we as kids (India hinterland) were scared by our grandparents/elders just so we don't touch any wild animal babies or the cautionary notes had some factual base.. but for most parts.. i grew up BELIEVING that the fletchlings/babies might be " rejected" by their sparrow, crow, pigeon parents ..if they smell humans/ bad predators on them. it figures that hibernating bear census or checks, tagging does involve putting some Vicks Vaporub type stuff on the nostrils of mommy hear. possibly to keep her (and the baby) from panicking later. but it was soooo touching and heartwarming to see that such dedicated conservation programs and even more dedicated, compassionate people are putting so much time monitoring and saving them. was is chance, luck or something else.. i don't know. but had no one known/seen that baby choking and loosing consciousness... it'd have been OVER for her/him in a minute or two :( seeing the goodness that our species 'Homo Sapiens' has and our individual small and big efforts... really, even if momentarily, makes me forget the worst of the things that we have done.. as possibly the last of the human species on this planet.
