Carlo you forgot to mentioned that when you went to LA in October you also did a Q&A at DFI rental house which I got the opportunity to meet you in person, it was a pleasure meeting you and listening to the advice/tips you gave during Q&A. Also thanks for giving me advice when I ask you a question 1 on 1. I don't know if you remember but I was the one who mentioned to you that I finally got the opportunity to DP a project at my film school. I learned a lot from that experience, I'm no where near close to be called a DP yet but hopefully in the future I will with the experiences I learn on my own plus the things you teach all of us on KZbin because speaking for myself the tips & lessons you show us in your channel has help me a lot. Like I told you in person I will tell you again in the comment section, next year you are hitting 100k subs!!!

Well done for not throwing anyone under the bus, it's something I've seen DPs do and has just shut down any chance of recovering the day. Definitely trying to mirror myself after you in terms of demeanor and clarity of vision. Well done it's a pleasure witnessing your journey bro all the way from Sydney, Aus.

Wonderful mindset you shared. I always settle for a positive attitude on set regardless of the bumps that always happen on set. And yea, when I first stepped out of the camera and had cam ops ... it opened my DP mind as well. It's awesome. I now try to push for a cam op as often as I can on all of my narrative projects. Always enjoy hearing fellow DPs like yourself share the experiences. Keep on pushing.

Had a very similar experience shooting on a much smaller rig (bmpcc6k) where the sensor had a small dust ring around it that we did not see until halfway through the day. Our AC started freaking out but after we calmed him down, we made the necessary adjustments to push forward and reshoot those scenes. Still NOT an ideal situation, but we rose to the challenge. I empathize with your situation fully and thank you for sharing!

Venice owner/op/AC here.. Had the exact same thing happen. A staff member elbowed the battery mount and shut down during recording.. If you had put the card back in the camera will ask you if you want to restore the media.. yes scary,, but if you select yes. . restore.. in my experience it has saved the shoot. and the footage was all there until the second power down occurred.

I don’t even think we got a restore option. It was the card that was faulty unfortunately

What I think might have happened was that the card was being written to / read from when the camera shut off. This would leave the card in a "weird state" where internal data on where files begin & end (in the huge pool of 1's & 0s, binary data, on the card) gets scrambled / becomes incorrect. The scenes were likely still on the card (unless the actual data was wiped) - it's just that you'd need special software to recover the right 1's & 0's from this big pool (certain software can detect patterns of compression algorithms to find file starts and ends / reconstruct the file "index"). But the files can't/won't show up in a file explorer (like Finder, etc) since the file index is broken. Very sure the data was still on the card, but would take special means to recover. There's some good softwares online to recover data if you still have the card & haven't formatted it again. (I've faced this before & went through a recovery, don't mean to be false hope, but just putting forth a hypothesis).
@davidperkinsdp Жыл бұрын
I second that. As long as it hasn't been formatted or deleted through camera or computer the footage would still be there. It's good to know that if a spinning hard drive is wiped the majority of the files can be recovered as long as it hasn't been used to write new data as deletion is more of a command process to make room when you start to add new data. With any sort of solid state media if the files are deleted or formatted then the files will not be recoverable as it instantly deletes the files. The software I use is R-Studio and it allows you to go in and change those 1's and 0's to fix broken files. I can't say I've done that before but the software has saved me a couple of times when a hard drive has been wiped or a memory card has been corrupted.
@carlostigs Жыл бұрын
We actually sent the card to Sony and it was due to a card we received that was not a legitimate Sony card so it was faulty

Love this video man! Really inspiring and good information to take in. A lot of things can go wrong during production just something that everyone has to take in when they get into this felid, all though i've never experienced corruption from a shoot *knock on wood* I still couldn't imagine how deviating it is to hear those words that nobody wants to hear. I hope to be in a position where your at doing this fulltime I haven't gotten to that point just yet I still need to branch out more make more connections and most importantly get more of the business side of things handled and gather more information.
