Life of a Jetski Mechanic: Yamaha VX1100 throttle body issue

Today we worked on a 2008 YAMAHA VX1100 that has running issue related to the throttle body. I hope any information in this video helps out some of you DIY guys.

Sometimes a wire can get 'stranded' meaning it looks good on the outside and carries volts and ohns but if only half the strands are connected, you lack AMPS, which is very hard to diagnose. Wiggle the wires when on the water and see if the problem comes back, if so its a bad wire/harness issue.

I have one of those pos skis myself I bought mine broke but I can't get mine to start. Mine clicks intermittently like a bad solenoid but I have had 3 different new solenoid's in it and I've unplugged all the plugs cleaned and put them back together. I can still continue to push the start button which I took apart and cleaned and inspected the switch first and I'm still having the same results every once in a while it will act like it's going to take off for a second or two. It's weird I can jump the solenoid every time and it works I checked the power wire at the relay from the button and it's hot when the button is pushed in but most of the time it's not cranking almost like it's not enough power. I think I'm going to try to replace my fuse relay. These skis seem to have wiring harness issues. I use to like Yamaha not so much now. Lol,, Yamaha warrior ATVs suck too I've worked on so many of those as well.

I have recently purchased a Yamaha go1300r that after repairing the engine does not produce a spark in the spark plugs. Could you guide me what I can check to solve it? I have seen in some forums that it could be the accelerator sensor, I was thinking of the crankshaft sensor. I would be very grateful for your help. thank you so much

Hey man. Watched the video. My ecm ends in c1 can I use a c0. It seams to be from the same ski on eBay but i don’t know for sure

The problem is in the electric contact Insiste the tps to open the tps and clean the rust from the contact. Mine opened in check but wouldnt accelerate. And that was the problem 👍🏼

I’m dealing with this issue as well can you explain what you cleaning TPS is part of the Electric throttle body correct and Aps is what the throttle cable is attached to.

I have 2007 VX110 With a alarm sounding after 20 min, no codes present! I can not figure out why its sounding , restart and alarms within 2 min, non stop. Cooling system perfect, motor was just apart and cleaned . water never gets too hot to touch. I have yds software on it and everything checks out perfect.

Maybe a temp senor of some sort. It's hard to tell with that description.

Anyone figure this issue out? I’ve load tested all my circuits involved with tps & aps and tightened up all my pin cavity in my connectors for the components involved with these dtcs with no luck. I tried a new aps sensor with no change. I’m curious because the aps is a V-ref signal if an another sensor that shares vref could be intermittently shorting to ground and knocking down v-ref causing the 135-132 etc any input?

Hey man, thanks for the video... my 05 waverunner starts up and instantly revs up to 8000rpm. There is jo throttle control. I have basicsllt dkne everything you vmhave dine in the video, including changing the harness and still have the same problem.... any ideas? Thank you so much

Hi, GREAT videos. Question? a friend has a Kawasaki Stx DI 1100 Ski, 135hrs on it. The watercraft will stall when releasing the throttle back to idle while riding. Will start back up, then repeats.......Can anyone assist with this one. The emm is in good shape. Replaced Positioning sensor. Someone said could be the Stator? Can't figure this one out?? Any guidance would greatly be appreciated...

Hmm. Hard to say, I would look at the fuel system first. What does the spark plugs look like?

Hey, just watches your video. I have a 2005 vx110 doing the same exact thing. Rough idle, clunking grinding noises at idle, you give it gas it’s all gos away and smooths out. But I just can’t seem to figure out what it can be. I’ve tried everything.

I’d change fuel you don’t know how long it’s been there mine was doing that Got injectors clean and added fresh fuel along with new Fuel strainer n FPR now idle perfect

I have a 2006 Yamaha vx110, what upgrades can I do? I did a tune up: new spark plugs, oil change, free flow exhaust, cold air intake, new impellers. Should I install an upgraded throttle body? And which one?

An intake grate and a ride plate. Anything else and you should pretty much just upgrade the whole ski 🥸

I have a 2015 Yamaha VX 110 deluxe it starts great out of the water revs up no problem took it to the lake went through the idle zone and as soon as I hit the gas to go it would not go over 5000 RPM barely hitting about 8 mph the oil level is correct the ski has been winterized every winter. It’s not in learner mode or idle mode Nowik mode any idea what could be causing that it revs up great outside of the water on the hose

Did you get an error code? I got 128- Sub Throttle Position Sensor Short, so I probably could replace throttle body, but like over $1,200 part. Sounds like that didn't do the trick. Any error codes for you, or anyone else out there? Thanks.

There were no codes, I do how ever have 2 throttle bodies if you'd like to buy 1.

@@JetEnvy_TV How much? Are they used? Also, do you notice the plugs to have fluid on them in a Yamaha Cruiser VX1100, I found that when I winterize and car plugs are always dry. It always ran fine, until this issue.

I have similiar problem with my 2014 VX Sport, check the sparks, the fuel pump, hte injectors everything seen to be working. I notice if I cover the throttle with my hand it kid wab to starts but shuts off. Also if i put starting fuild on the throttle it starts for few seconds but shuts again

friend I have a similar problem my jetski does not accelerate but sometimes it does not accelerate other times, I already took out the engine and cleaned the connectors, it worked fine after I assembled it, then I did not want it again because the cables are failing in some connector? going crazy thanks brother

@@santiagolara9903 I had a similar issue with my 2008 vx110. Put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail line. I undid the hose near the top of the fuel tank and put a hose clamp and a pressure gauge on that. I was getting 30 pounds, but it dropped like a rock where it should hold. I think spec is around 40 pounds. I took the fuel pump out and replaced and it was good as new. Registered at 40 pounds and held.
