Yamaha Jet-ski Surging/ Power Loss Issue!? $10 Fix!

It’s a two stroke so to explain it only runs in the 1st stroke. But it will work for a while and then boom back to just one stroke. If I full throttle it shakes and stutters. But if you come off it and wait it will work. Turned it off to go get the trailer and boom it was working. But the whole ride back only one stroke Ii need to check underneath

Thank you SO MUCH for this video! I have the EXACT same issue with new rebuilt engine, carbs, etc. So this is invaluable to my mechanic friend to fix for me! It did say put new spark plugs in after rebuilt engine, which he never put new ones, so that's probably the issue. My ski is a 1994, now like a 1997 as new engine is much faster horsepower. Hey, Hitchin Mitch, one question. My friend may not get to my ski for a while. Am I safe riding it in meantime? Rode for three hours yesterday and it really only acted up near end. Am I safe to ride locally until he can get to it??? THANK YOU!!!!!

I paid $2000 for this one, it had high hours and the body and seat are thrashed, and it also didn't come with a trailer.

Unfortunately it came already installed on the ski. Next time I've got it opened I can take a look. Haven't opened it up for the season yet.

Hey, Hitchin' Mitch - changed spark plugs, gapped correctly, still doing its power surge, slow down! What do we check now??? Everything else clean, no debris, could it be gas lines need changed??

The lines or maybe the injectors are dirty.

@@lisaalger4988 you're welcome! I'll also ad this little bit. I only run 93 octane in all my stuff and ad marine stabil to the fuel for the jetskis. Helps keep everything cleaner longer and perform better. 🤘

@@HitchinMitch Yes, do the Stabil. Only can get gas the marina gives us. Just took it out. Ran great at steady speed. Slowed down then wouldn't take off again. My friend put new carbs on it last year. We think it has to do with them. After his weekend away he will check it out for me. But we are narrowing it down! New engine, made it like 3 years newer! But the carbs have to be the problem. Still will check fuel lines also since original (1993 ski). THANK YOU!!!

So what ended up being the problem?. I have rhe same issue. I havent check the jet pump. Its all clear tho

I changed the spark plugs and made sure they were gapped properly. Made a world of difference!

what size socket did you use to get spark plugs out

I believe it was a 9/16 socket..

I have a 14’ VXR and it still feels boggy :(

4 years later lol. Did you ever figure out what the issue was? I have a 14' VXR and it wont go over 10-15 mph. feels really bogged down
